A quick walk through a 1900 BC Minoan palace.

The First Palace dates back to around 1900 BC and was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1700 BC, only to be levelled again by another tremor around 1450 BC.
This cave was used in 100 BC. What does it look like inside ?

    Just amazing, John. Your looking at certain things in particular, we could feel your pain in not swinging the detector over the cracked paths, through countless rooms, around the giant amphorae in the agora, the scale of the place yet to be revealed was bit of a shock, bring on the nudist German archaeology undergraduates, I say. I'll consider offering our services, just let us know ha ha. The Minoan jewellery cabinet needs more examples found, good there weren't detectors about with Lord Elgin's thieves and crooks 200 years ago, though I'm sure they shifted some dirt and had a good crack at it, their haul we'd seen in London museums, of all places. The dude who started the Hobart MONA museum of old and new art has a beaut collection of legally-bought Minoan and other civilizations gold coinage, I'd bought the art book of the opening, has close-ups of the coinage, and because it has a CD in the back that's essentially the band, TISM, combining a variety of our interests, in an unexpected but meaningfully coherent package. As was this video. Be well, rhe!

    Amazing site, 200 million years in the making geology, ghastly 200 year ago massacre. You'd imagine some finds to be had, early gold coins, through to items from eras of occupation by varied cultures. Doing things by the book might take as long for approvals, but the Greek authorities take well to interested parties, especially if they're Australian Greek with metal detectors, compared to other interested groups, like in their university doing months of digging the one test trench, being reminded in German that they ought put their clothes back on, that they're not in a Berlin park! There's so many sites everywhere in Greece, needing archeological assessments, and protection from thieves, but you don't know what's there to protect unless it's assessed, but you'd need stacks of approvals anyway, export permits, etc, but like permissions back home, it doesn't mean you get to keep what you find, but not everything that's found wants their keeping, hey. It doesn't need to be looking where the tourists flock, it's maybe under the dirt floor of the old buildings at the relative's property where the real treasures may lie. You'd need to suss out the local political leaders... But it's your history, they might be delighted with the interest and chances to reconnect communities. Everything though has to have paperwork, important finds faked papers get big jail times. The end of a discontinued gold mine adit, as with the cave, is maybe where the luck ran out, and should be the last place to look?! It's a thought we'd arrived at on watching Levi of Tassie Boys Gold Adventures latest episode, a type of carry-over winning conclusion that should be shared. Another was about a nightclub opening on a Greek island, in a village well away from the main town, playing different "house" music, and suddenly the little town has hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Happy trails! Thanks for sharing.

      It’s amazing here with history. This took 4 hours to upload due to poor reception. I’m in a pretty remote area. Knowing the history and ancient stories of this cave definitely gave me a vibe. I wish I could detect in there lol. Just something really special about walking in the footsteps of someone from back in BC. Can’t explain it.

    A top visual adventure into history and archaeology, thanks for sharing. Interesting seeing the combination of Hellenistic, Islamic (headstones styled in Greek and Arabic themes, arches, leaves, that round egg thing, nice you showed it) and Venetian, the fort, parapets with arrow slits for archers, through to cannon ramparts, cannons just laying around. The arch at the start to enter the fort had a stone picture frame with the picture seems chiseled out, it would maybe have been the symbol of the Venetian republic, a lamb holding a flying flag. Keep up the great visual diary, but have fun foremost, cheers! (Pardon not using your name, but we've forgotten, you don't state it lately in the videos, hope you don't mind us mentioning this! Nice spot with chunkier pieces, and the relics site looks unaffected by the Wally wombat leaving holes. Happy trails to Hellas, although you might still want to visually detect, with the fiancé, your family sites for relics and ephemera, that you'd be interested would give added pride and other sentiments for your relatives over there - an example, when our family went visiting Croatia, they found an old portrait photo of our grandma with her parents, and had it been left in the old, unused house, it'd have fallen and rotted away by now. It was rare to have a photo taken at all in the village 90 years ago, now us ancestors have it to share and show. Mind, I'd love to take over my metal detector and look for Roman gold and silver, we had two of the last emperors, Valentian and Valens, a few towns across. One of their daughters sent a ring to some dude in Greece, as a peace gesture, and started a war. I forget which famous whatnot but you and I have a few weeks to try remember! Yassas!

    Extremely detailed, thanks for showing. It takes some preparation and taking hard copies as printed screenshots can help, saving for offline use needs checking and testing yourself, as using the mobile phone in the field is very difficult, and some sites, like Heritage Victoria, are nearly impossible to work, unless you're using a desktop computer. That some areas you'd have thought were covered, and aren't, is similar to what you're saying about trying prospecting in between known sites, but mindful to not leaving disturbance, not drawing attention to yourself, on what you're doing, or what you're looking for, or have found. Respectful discretion compared to disrespectful indiscretion, one is won reward, the other is cheating plunder. Continued good luck!

    A good look close-up of the heavily worked parts, rarely get to the GT, one forgets how hard it was scraped in many parts, that rich the ground was, and might still yield with the aid of the magic electric wand! Happy swinging, the fiancé will be convinced with evidence and swing the pick for you both, if you come running to the car with a handful and declare "the patch isn't done yet!" 🤞🤙 Cheers from Gabi of Narre Warren.

    That bit you got that you thought was going to be bigger, that is always the way with the 6000, was a solid little bit though & down a bit too. Doing what the 6000 excels at. You should try the 11" coil. It will give you more depth than the 12x7 & isn't a shabby coil for sensitivity either. Best of luck out there. John from NZ :)

    It's countryside we'd all like to be in, exposed grounds, eroded gullies, too enjoyable to be filming and talking while swinging the detector, though you never know if there may be a big lucky strike signal close to the surface while the camera is rolling, the ultimate hope, all in the one take! Mixing it up fine, into the sun it's sunburst patterning, away from the direction of the sun it's harder for you to see your screen for you, if it's recording in focus or finger in the way, but clearer to for the viewer to see the terrain and nature. Seems there the trees are small, little topsoil, little build-up of vegetation.. the music could do with gentler build-up.. do you detect swinging quickly from gold found point to a picked zone further up in sight, similar to the found gold, or track in certain directions the gold in the area is known to extend or thought to lie, like N/S reef lines, E/W leads? Onya, happy fossicking!

    • @DetectingVictoria
      @DetectingVictoria Месяц назад

      Thank you. I generally swing very slow. What you see on video are usually not my real swings. I like to hit gully’s and edge of workings moving “ down hill” if I can. The reefs here are very easy to spot. Thanks for watching 💪
