I’ve photographed more weddings than headshots. At age 71 I plan to move into headshots/portraits and family sessions while backing away from weddings. I don’t have the excitement or desire for weddings anymore, but I still like the $$. If I get into portrait work I believe I can bring in enough $$ to please myself. I love playing with off camera strobe lighting, different softboxes, umbrellas, using different backdrops and experimenting with light ratios. 2025 will be a transition year for me. Hopefully headshot/portrait work will come my way.

Will you be upgrading to this lens?

Hi Scott, a question which has puzzled me since moving from 1DX2 to R62 is tethered flash cables. I use the triggers mainly but miss having the back up when the trigger has an issue on a shoot to quickly plug in the flash cable. The R6 and mirrorless series from canon dont have the connection. Is there a work around like a USB C version cable especially for older studio flash units.

Very lackluster video

When I shot Canon, I'd use 24-70/2.8, a 70-200/2.8 and later 24-105/4. The first two were heavy and the third less so. For a whole day wedding shoot, for example, I can imagine this new lens would be very useful for a range of shots; especially dark interiors without flash. Looks interesting if a little pricey.

I have a hard time understanding the value of this lens in a studio setting, primes typically do a much better job, are lighter, brighter,...

I've heard wedding photographers are all over this lens. Also, sports like basketball & wrestling. So not useless for stills. (if that's what you meant?) And at $3000 isn't it one of Canon's high end lenses?

why cant they make it lightweight

I just bought it as I like the speed, better image quality and best of all is the tripod collar. I mostly use Panasonic GH's for video, but recently been using my R5 and R6 mk II more, but mounting the R5 to a tripod plate and using the 28-70 f/2, just seems like a lot of stress on the mount...so this lens really answered that problem for me. Also not crazy about hanging my 85 f/1.2 DS, but it is a bit lighter than the 28-70. I'm sure I'm worried for nothing but I do shoot a fair amount in low light and ALWAYS wish the 28-70 were a bit wider and a bit longer when in use. So going through a bit of redefining my lens use case parameters!

What do you think about this lens?

I watch your video to see if you have the same problem of yellow and saturated colors with a lot of contrast in the studio, the canon 6d or 5d the colors look better editing in lightroom

I have a very severe disability, before my accident i was professional photographer now i don’t do pay jobs and photography only for myself, i have the first generation of M series on ipad pro and my workflow is interely in the ipad, i only go to desktop to create the books catalog page for print in LR otherwise LR mobile is my thing

Scott, I'm in Oklahoma and I sized the client's ERAS 2.5 x3.5 at 150 pixels. She sent me an email tonight with screenshots that showed when she uploaded the headshot the preview showed a square format instead of 2.5 x 3.5 and therefore it was cropping her photo and when it cropped it, the bottom edge didn't show enough of the blouse she had on under her blazer. I have no problem making her a square format image too but everything I've read said it needs to be 2.5 x 3.5 for the application submission. Have you ran into this? It's the first time anyone has ever had a problem with the sizing format I've created.

Been to a lot of photographers and this advice is exactly what they tell you. Love how much perfect info there is in such a short video! Best thing is to relax especially with a professional, they are really good at capturing the best of you!

Seems like the tether cable sticking through the L bracket would interfere with attaching in portrait orientation. Hmmm.

I’m having a hard time getting tips on the photography rather than video side of things for the 24-150 lens. As I wait for my r6 mark ii to arrive I am busting my brain over deciding the correct lens I can act afford . I will be taking lots of photos with the window as my light source for images of my artwork I. Creative contexts etc. should I ins read her the EF 24-70 mm f2.8 wirh adapter rather than the EF 24-105 ? I will also use the camera for Video and photographing my art outside for the outposts of making art prints of my art (crop after. To make prints ).

hi i have a canon R8 and trying to connect to the ipad capture one app but after connect with the cable if seen cant detect the camera? is their any setting on the camera that need to set for the camera can be detected? i tried to connect it to a pc and lightroom too and the lightroom cant detect it but the pc can detect and show it storage files
