My first RC car! Yes I'm old..... Overall pretty gooed car, except for one thing: The thin bit of chassis underneath the shock towers, which tended to break too easily. After a few broken chassis I managed to reinforce it with a small aluminium plate that did the trick. Though not long after that I got a Asso RC10T which was basically indestructible....

Question as a european: Why was the metric system used in this ad? I barely hear any nowadays.

If you didn't live through this era you may not understand why this is so nostalgic and why this model is so important to modern RC.

Kyosho just released the Optima Mid WC Worlds Spec in honor of their results at the '87 IFMAR 4wd race. 2nd place and 5 of the 10 in A Mains. I owned a Turbo Optima Mid SE in the late '80s and always pulled for Kyosho. Perhaps only the mighty Masami Hirosaka driving a Schumacher Cat prevented Kyosho from ascending to the top step.

You know, if I were able to go back in time and take one modern car back to race it, I actually wouldn't bring any of the modern top-end racing vehicles. The car I'd bring with me would be a Tamiya DF03 with some hopups. Why? Because it's far more suited to racing on these old loam tracks than anything actually used in competitive racing today.

I just now noticed that this track resembles White Land Last Wolf from F-Zero Climax - or really, Last Wolf resembles this track. Quite the coincidence.

Just picked up a Super Clodbuster! Always wanted one as a kid but couldn't afford it. Had plenty of others, Falcon, Blackfoot, Hornet, Hotshot. Love Tamiya kits!

Wow! Your part 1 and part 2 videos just popped up on you tube tonight. Funny thing is the 2024 IFMAR WORLD OFF ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS were held last weekend here in Chandler Arizona at HOBBY ACTION RACEWAY. The same car manufactures are racing today as they did 36 years ago. Amazing for sure. I came as a spectator and brought my OG 1986 Associated RC10 that I raced 30 years ago in Omaha Nebraska. As luck would have it Jammin' Jay Halsey was here at this race. Not only did I get to meet him but he autographed my RC10...never in my dreams! Great video's. Thanks for the memories!

I remember the first time I saw a Schumacher Cat XLS. I was only familiar with the cheaper Tamiya and Kyosho cars with shaft or chain 4wd. So seeing ball diffs, full belt drive, the front impact system and just the way the driveshafts etc were made it looked like science fiction so advanced. Cecil Schumacher was an abosolute genius coming up with all these innovations. Later I raced with the Topcat, Cougar and Procat.

I was into RC in the 90's I remember batteries taking forever to charge and getting very little use time, not like today!

無限マーキュリーも出ていたのですね。。持ってました。。ギヤがやたらうるさいシャシーでした。。 ハイギヤードだったのでタミヤテクニゴールドモーターで無いとレースでは４分持ちませんでした。。バッテリーも1200scセルしかなかったので。。サスピンも２ミリ位でしたのでヒットすると良くアームが根元から折れました。。

Thank you so much for the video. It brings back so many wonderful memories of when I first got into the Clod Buster. As soon as the kit was released in 1987, I sold my Tamiya Blackfoot and put the money towards a new Clod Buster. I have absolutely no regrets as I still have my first Clod Buster though there are almost no stock parts left on it. I do not think that I'll ever get rid of any of my modified Clod Busters and Bull Heads.
