    Wow! Your part 1 and part 2 videos just popped up on you tube tonight. Funny thing is the 2024 IFMAR WORLD OFF ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS were held last weekend here in Chandler Arizona at HOBBY ACTION RACEWAY. The same car manufactures are racing today as they did 36 years ago. Amazing for sure. I came as a spectator and brought my OG 1986 Associated RC10 that I raced 30 years ago in Omaha Nebraska. As luck would have it Jammin' Jay Halsey was here at this race. Not only did I get to meet him but he autographed my RC10...never in my dreams! Great video's. Thanks for the memories!

    Kyosho just released the Optima Mid WC Worlds Spec in honor of their results at the '87 IFMAR 4wd race. 2nd place and 5 of the 10 in A Mains. I owned a Turbo Optima Mid SE in the late '80s and always pulled for Kyosho. Perhaps only the mighty Masami Hirosaka driving a Schumacher Cat prevented Kyosho from ascending to the top step.

      Shame about the tracks not being as they were and the buggies have become PRO10 / LMP's on steroids (let's go fly a car). My radio shows an airplane with a line through it.

    Wow, it was amazing to see you this after all this time. The issue of RCCA that covered this event was one of the first RC magazines I ever purchased.
    It’s also amazing to see how much the hobby has progressed in just over 30 years. In comparison, the 2WD buggies of today run much smoother than these, ha ha!
    I also had to give kudos for coverage of the Concourse competition. Do any major events even do that anymore? Finally, hats off to Mr. Mike Reedy. The man was certainly a legend of the hobby. My first “real” competition motor was a Reedy Modified.

    Imagine this being a worlds race today. Bumpy track, outdoors and no roof on the driverstand. I bet they had just as fun though and fully happy with the event.

    this was the year I got into RC racing. I was very fortunate to race at Hot Trax in Huntington Beach. I spent a whole year earning money to upgrade my RC10 to full aftermarket parts. Soon afterwards, my father bought the Schumacher CAT. it was an exotic 4wd at the time.

    Wow, 1987, the year i raced with a Kyosho Baja Body (which i still have). Switched to a HoBao Pirate 2wd some years later.
    Loved the loose track surface of those days. Learned a lot from the racers back then. Spare parts weren't easily available, so we had to make spare/performance parts ourselves. Some guy made and sold fuel, another guy was specialized in making suspension parts, and no matter where we raced, it always drew a crowd. Good times, great memories!

    I remember drewling at this video. driving an Kyosho Ultima Pro at the time with a reedy motor, this just brings up memories when the world wasn't that complicated to me. Loved driving to the race track every saterday with my buddies and just hang out there all day racing, tuning etc.

    This race is what made us as kids get the Cat (not XL though) the year after we got our RC10. My dad really didnt mind ponying up the extra money for cars that handled well versus all the Tamiya stuff, to the disdain of our friends with Grasshoppers / Frogs / Foxes... we would run circles around them hopping all over. Hmmmm guess I'm still competitive :D great video thanks for sharing!

    Why does a video from the 80’s look like it was shot in 60’s? Videos were much clearer than this during the 80’s.

    • @Polarcupcheck
      @Polarcupcheck 6 лет назад +1

      Was late 80's, too. My guess is the VCR tape it was on, and the method used to transfer to digital was poor.

    • @teeokeefe
      @teeokeefe 6 лет назад

      @Don - not necessarily. Being an "oldster" who taped many vcr tapes AND have transferred them, I've seen this "sad" quality before. There were 3 speeds to use for recording. This looks like SP, i think it was; The lowest quality that guaranteed the longest amount of tape time. Also plus the storage of the tape could also contribute to the poor quality. how FAR we have come :-)

    • @brandonbentley8532
      @brandonbentley8532 5 лет назад

      Don or so you remember!?

    • @gogotrololo
      @gogotrololo 5 лет назад +1

      The video could have been shot on an older camera from the early 80's or even 70's. Match that with the natural degradation of the tape over time (tape getting baked, brittle and faded), with usage, and re-recordings... this is pretty accurate. We aren't talking about 80s hollywood here haha
