Hunker Down, riding out Hurricane Milton
Просмотров 6 тыс.Месяц назад
Sometimes the safest call is to hunker down and ride out a hurricane. This was our call with powerful Hurricane Milton approaching. Being in its NE corner, we knew we were in for a long rough night of high winds and driving rain, but safe from its surge. As we say in Florida, "run from water, and hide from wind".

Great work Gabe!
Well Gabe you’ve managed to surprise me one more time Mr Spielberg or should I say Mr Coppola !! Not sure how you’ve managed to capture an entire week of adventures, hiking , mtb riding , bouldering and non stop laughter in a 24 minute video but you’ve done it 🙌👍❤️ Thank you for sharing our silly banter “ órale guey , cholo , and countless others…. I would do it all over again in a NY minute specifically with you . Thank you Gabe 🙏
Life non scripted my friend. Thanks for coming along and heading the call of the mountains....beware though, it's very addicting!!!
God be praised for keeping you and your family save
Good to see you Gabe
Hola Claudia!
That looks like a blast to ride, bet it was a fun couple of days.
Loads of fun.....we have the bruises to prove it :)
One of my all time favorite gravel/mud ride videos. The song really ties the whole thing together. Thanks Gabe. I'm responsible for at least a half dozen of your views. 😂
Thanks! That was one of my all time favorite Pecan rides.....dry ones aren't nearly as much fun :)
@@gabrielpulido8992 So many of the Singletrack Samurai rides end up muddy and swampy. Come join us sometime!
@@printerror Yep...I'll have to join you guys some time
@@gabrielpulido8992 Can't wait! There's a four part gravel series this season that I'm all-in for!
Great video, Gabe! Thinking about planning a ride at Half Moon. Did you run into any bad sandy areas? Are the roads marked well, or should I find a rwgps route?
The main grades are smooth rolling, but the real fun starts when you start exploring those smaller side trails which are a more backcountry in style where you’ll be riding on much rougher / less groomed surfaces running the gamut from grass, to mud, to overgrown single track. There are some long old railway trams which are really fun to explore, plus there is a trail that goes to an old pier/bridge dating back to old logging days….lots of history there. Is it all doable with a gravel bike…yes, but it’s not optimal.
Thanks! We're going to check it out.
Great video but that ain't Pisgah...
Thanks…your correct, Cove Creek is not in Pisgah, but the video was part of a week long trip at Brevard where we hiked, biked, kayaked and canyoneered in and around Pisgah. They all share the same opening.
This trail looks pretty cool, fantastic atmosphere as well my friend! 👏👏
Definitely bucket list worthy!!!
Im still mad they removed the Rickety Bridge with no plan to replace it. Some busy bodies complained about people using it.
Agreed. It was a nice tranquil spot to hang out mid ride/hike and watch the wildlife. That said, there are many other surprises to be found if you explore off-trail.
Great video sir! I think this is a bucket list ebike adventure next time.
Thanks! It's a big ride and very bucket list worthy, especially in the fall. You'll be talking about it forever after riding it!
Great video! Thanks for shooting and editing it. Beautiful day. So much fun!
Thanks Lisa....that was really a fun day!!!!
Great place to put in some nice single track aerobic fitness miles. I know you're big on gravel cycling - any good routes in Starkey for gravel style bikes w/ skinnier tires? How are the power line paths, hard packed or soft sand? Thanks for the video recon. I've pinned Meg's Hole on Google Maps specifically to AVOID that road because of one of your videos! ;)
Hahaha, but Meg's Hole is one of the best parts! Actually Starkey has some great smooth easy rolling hard packed gravel under the power lines leading into the Serenova Tract. If you are adventurous, Starkey offers great "backcountry" style riding, where you'll ride everything from single tract, to dirt, to grass, to gravel and yes, even Florida's famous sand, plus you get a few river crossings. I've been able to squeeze in 50+ miles there exploring all the marked and unmarked trails. That said, big chunky tires are a must, especially if you hit a sandy stretch.
Water crossings? Nope! Irrational fear of alligators and trauma of many many many cottonmouth sightings/encounters at Flatwoods! LOL!@@gabrielpulido8992
nice!
Great content
Super ❤
cuteness overload!!!!
Impressive amount of features built on the trails!
It's a really fun system. I'm surprised they can get so much in to such a small space.
@@gabrielpulido8992 Most of our trails here are on Water Management land, and they won't allow any features on their land. We can't even bring in clay to protect the roots. :(
We have some areas that have the same limitations, luckily we have Alafia and Boyette close by...easily the most feature rich trails in FL.
Double crash 😂😂😂
hahah yep...I'm upholding the mountain bikers motto!
Beautiful ride! Sweet singletrack!
The network of gravel roads in the Cohutta Mountains seems endless. If you start in Nimblewill, GA, you'll have loads of amazing single track at Jake and Bull Mountain, that ranges from fast and flowy to rugged backcountry gnar.
JUST SUBSCRIBED BROTHER!!!NICEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks. So many great roads and trails to explore in that area.
Glad to see (both you and David) back!
Awesome video......keep it up...
Did you stick to the green trails?
Nope. I rode the entire epic 50 route on the gravel bike. Just a few areas where you had to pick your lines carefully, but overall, lots of fun.
So glad the lockdown is over
How many miles is it and how long did it take you to ride it ?
Trailforks has it listed as a 15.2 mile out and back + approximately 2 miles of buffalo creek to access Weed Patch Trail, but everyone states it's more like 20 miles. I started from the bottom at Buffalo Creek and rode up to the grey rock overlook for an out-and-back of approximately 12 miles and 2,600' of elevation. Total moving time was about 2:45 hrs
@@gabrielpulido8992 Hey Thanks A Bunch for the info , that sounds perfect , a 3 hour ride is what I typically try to do when I go to Pisgah or DuPont
@@wdwindham It's a great ride....you are going to love it!
Just wow,Gabriel, you are the poster boy for Fl offroad enthusiasts, try not to break any bones in 2023....your friend the Hamster.
Hahaha, thanks Paul!

It just would have been water and gravity without you two!!!
hell yeah dude
I'm going to ride there Sunday
Enjoy, it's a great trail....headed back up there next week too
Wow, lesser known western NC trail. Thanks
where is this trail head located?
It's located in Clarks Hill SC....right across the river from Augusta, GA
@@gabrielpulido8992 is this your home trailhead? I travel a lot throughout south in Feb and march and always open to connecting with locals for a ride.
@@brianborgmann4011 no...it was just a weekend getaway. We tend to do them often.
Awesome!!
So much fun!
Nope...
Hahaha, we are just warming up for more adventures!
Is the Pinhoti section duable on a gravel bike?
I guess that all depends on your skill level and gravel bike setup. Most of it is flowy, but some sections can get rough for a rigid bike w/ skinny tires.
@@gabrielpulido8992 I heard "yes". lol. Thanks man.
@@Bscott-390 Send it!!!!

I really loved Starkey!!. Thank you for suggested the route.
You're welcome.....enjoy the yard!
Some of my favorite routes. Sneaking in the south end of Starkey/SFWMD!
South end is hidden gem.
Sweet backyard! Great capture of Florida riding
Thanks Robert!
Your back yard is pretty big.
Yep, over 18,000 acres big!
Fantastic!!
Yes, it is indeed a fantastic backyard 😜
Ohhhh, you did it!!!. Lol. Love the music and the video!.
What bike computer are you using? Really nice video BTW
I actually use two all the time. I have a Garmin 520+ on my stem and a Garmin Fenix 6 Pro Solar on my wrist....and just for triple redundancy, the iPhone is in my pocket running a whole range of navigation apps.
Nice. Good to see so much FGB kit! This event is on my bucket list!
Just saw this video last week and then I’m pretty sure we passed each other on the croom tract at about 1230 yesterday. I wanted to say hi but we blew by each other at the start of the trail and I had headphones in. I’m sure I’ll see ya soon as I’m out there all the time!
It definitely wasn't us, but hello anyways!
