Pro tip: Find these sounds in your environment (grocery store shelves, billboards, restaurant signs, etc.) Any time you can connect the abstract (letter sounds) to concrete things in their world, it lays big foundations for literacy. Teachable moments are everywhere just waiting for fun and meaningful discovery!

58:18. When to do this (kids see it as just more school) Tip: bath time is excellent for this. Foam letters that stick to the walls, squirt guns to shoot the sounds. Bath/body paints to write on the walls or the child then splash/scrub off the sounds. Then incorporate bath toys with those first-letter sounds. So fun!! Definitely not school.

Yes, I do this with my 2 1/2 year old! She knows about half the alphabet this way (if not more). She loves it and asks for more naturally, I have never sat down and formally taught her- she just soaks it up this way!!!☺It probably helps that we have a very large extended family so plenty of cousins 😂

7:30 - Japan STILL teaches to memorize. My wife (Japanese) asked me to help our nephew with tenses in English. I told her I would. She also went on to say that he needs to memorize the tenses. I told her that I DO NOT teach memorization. He is going to learn to use them; not to memorize them. She said that's (memorization) is how they teach in Japan. I told her that I don't and will never teach to memorize. I teach to produce and use. She said, okay and I went to teach him. Later that day, our nephew looked very happy and confident that he could learn and use the tenses. He told his dad that he was very happy with my lesson and could follow it. He said, "I wish Uncle Manny (My name) was my English teacher. His classes are fun. My English teacher's classes are boring." His dad paid me, but I told him that I was happy to help and you don't have to pay me. We're family. He gave me the money anyway and I gave it to my wife for her beer money.

@@annelewis7435 By teaching the concept instead of memorisation. Children naturally enjoy learning, we kill that joy in school by making them learn in unnatural ways… when it’s harder and makes no sense, it’s not fun. But understanding a new concept is usually fun for kids
