Hey Mark, while trying to troubleshoot a botched display unit on my E65S GBW, I did not take a picture of how the wires plug in the back of the display. I ordered a replacement display, and can't find this info anywhere online. Do you happen to know?
Nice video Mark. I got one of these out of the Costco garbage. Since it's three phase, I put a Teco FM50 Frequency drive on it so I can use it at my house. I got new burrs for it, seasoned it and shimmed the burrs to get better tolerance for less fines. Wayyyyy better now! I would put this burr set up to others I've tried and it makes a super clean cup. Maybe the best I've had. I've tried the EK's, and a few super fancy home grinders, still like my VTA better
Dude, thank you for this precise explanation! Kudos
Hello, I am an absolute beginner. In which direction does the grinding plate have to rotate? Clockwise? My device spins but almost nothing comes out. It rotates clockwise.
Okay, I missed 2:01 - Now I've swapped the two (or three?) hot wires. This wasn't easy because the VTA6S has 4 cables and my plug has 5. In Germany the blue cable is the "0", but in this case the blue cable was one of the hot cables. > Now the machine rotates counterclockwise. Let's see if it works once I put it together.
Hi, I got the TEMP error! NO display, is there a problem with the processor board?
that's an issue i haven't had in a long time , i cant be sure but i think it is the processor. also Be sure all the plugs are on correctly . If you have to get a new processor board you may wind up running into an incompatibility issue that exist , the issue is probably due to a vendor update to the last production runs that didnt consider older generations of the peak . So exhaust every avenue before buying a new processor board. Good luck
Hi Mark, not sure if you’d be able to help but I think we had a botched firmware update for our E80 non-gbw. I am now no longer able to get the grinder to power on. Circuit breaker is not tripping either. Any possible ideas?
it can happen , ive botched a couple myself . I would double check that you have continuity at the overlimit, and that the hopper safety is triggered properly .. if both of those items are good , and all wires are connected then it is most likely a botched display . Did the power get interupted or did the update just fail to complete? Unfortunately I dont know of a way to recover that display .
@@theREALMarklar update failed to complete and was getting “respone 200” on the firmware update software and the display was frozen. So I switched the power off then back on and was not able to get it to reset by holding both buttons + the jog dial before flipping the power switch back on
Hi Mark I wonder if you could help me please? My K30 display has gradually got dimmer but the display works fine. I am looking to fix as have retired now and just bought a Spaz S 5 for home and I originally came from electronic engineering background. Have you any experience of this fault please? More likely be a PSU issuer or the display itself? I’m assuming it’s an electrostatic rear lighting rather than LED? Any help would be most appreciated, thank you! Tim Hampshire UK
i do have experience seeing this symptom but i dont exactly know the answer to your question on the build of the display. I usually do have to replace it to correct the issue . good luck
Champion lifesaver you are, thank you for this video, it explained everything I needed to know!
On ours, one of the 3 hopper metal short anchor lock pins is missing.... I don't see a replacement part for these pins. I guess I'm going to have to try to see if a nail or used rivet pin will fit the hole and then super glue and baking soda into place(as well as the 2 remaining pins so we don't loose those). Thanks
Hi, Is the knob pull off/removable? Ours needs some electronics spray cleaner sprayed into the knob shaft.. Because the knob response has gotten bad/jumpy/unreliable. Due to common age/oxidation of internal contacts... But unplugging and spraying with the knob installed, blocks the spray from getting where it needs to. Ours is the non-GBW model, simpler E65S model. Thanks
Thank you - just changed out burrs, cleaned and calibrated with ease thanks to your video
just got a used GH2 and you wont believe how much of a lifesaver you are thank you!
Your presentation was awesome, I learned a lot about setting the gap.
Hi Mark, great video. Thank you for sharing. I’m wondering what the last character in a model represents. For example vta-6sG as opposed to vta-6s3. Do you know.?
Im not really sure what the G would be for .. there are identifiers like SW that mean single phase , and hmvc , but ive never heard of G before .. wish i knew
If there is buildup under the rotary carrier you may need to remove it completely and clean underneath like in this video ruclips.net/video/fDAMyWsaQF4/видео.html , .. also make sure the burr with a D on the back is on the bottom, and the S is on the TOP , hope that helps
You just saved me a ton of money! Great video and it fixed our problem. We had a barista spin the plastic adjustment wheel WAY out of wack.
Magnificent run through. Big thanks, from Houston, Texas
Thank you Mark, this was super helpful. I was able to calibrate my burrs with your walkthrough!
Can you help me bro
Also! Is it possible to replace the motor on this grinder? I can not figure how to get the dang motor out of this thing but I believe that the motor is not working on mine. The grinder shorts out every couple seconds when I try to grind coffee.
do you have a single phase or 3 phase grinder .. if its single phase your issue may be related to the capacitor and the relay that live in the bottom on single ph machines
How do you determine if it's a single phase or 3 phase? Yes it blew the capacitor and we replaced it and it blew another capacitor so we were thinking maybe the problem was with the motor. In your video you mentioned if too much coffee grounds get into the motor it can cause problems. @@theREALMarklar
@theREALMarklar I am pretty sure it's a single phase. So you are saying it's pretty unlikely that the issue is with the motor itself?
while the issue could be with the motor (its always possible), its my experience that the relay and capacitor sometimes need to be replaced together and the vta single phase doesnt like to run for less than one minute due to a charging /discharging capacitor that likes to explode if it never is given the runtime to discharge (more than a minute) .. . I am actually working on one with a similar issue and currently i am unable to get the relay. Here in the usa there are 2 types of single phase vta , one with a powerboard and a capacitor , one with a contactor, capacitor and relay (probably an overlimit on both) @@francisbueckert7676
Please respond Marklar, you are our only hope! @@theREALMarklar
Thank you so much for posting this video! I was totally stuck trying to get one of these open until I found your video. Dismantling one of these feels like trying to crack a safe when you don't know what you're doing!
Do you know if its possible to modify the motor controller så that we can adjust the motor speed? Maybe you know of someone who had done this modification before or if we can buy a kit to do it
Hi Mark great video. I took my E65S GBW apart to replace the display that was defective and when putting it back together I noticed 2 plastic rods that are mounted at the front of the motor and don’t know what they are for. I’m hoping you can help me figure what those 2 plastic rods are for. By the way in E65S GBW I didn’t see those rods. Thanks
Rad video. The you for dropping wisdom on us. It’s nice that a lot of this applied to vertically mounted burr grinders. Really similar to my grindmaster.
Thanks for all what you do mark 🙏🙏
how do I separate the burrs if it gets stuck together and spring does not push the other side out?
Thanks Mark! I’m having an issue getting it to start. It starts and then it shuts itself off. As if something is stuck. Should I take it apart and clean it? It has only been through about 50 lbs of coffee from brand new
a good clean is a great place to start , the issue is probably the relay, try swapping the relays for each other, the problem should move to the off relay, .. you can find new relays for the gh2 at www.ghgbs.com . Hope that helps
Wow great
I cannot get the spout to mate back into the body…the bearing pushes in like you said it should…
Can you give me some advice. Grinder works great but when I change the grind the actual grind will not change… what is wrong?
It it easy to remove the rubber gasket between base and motor housing? Have they modified the body so that it needs the rubber collar or is it easy to just take out? Not a good look with the black collar with the white EK, as I have no black parts or logos on mine at all now, this is for home use.
Great video mark!. Could you suggest any food grade grease brand? It´d be very helpful. Thanks
I'd also like that recommendation
ABC super lube is the standard
Please help me out I am putting it on but is not humming or coming on this my whatsapp number 0501248166
hi Mark.. its really helpful.. thanks to you. btw i dont know its a problem or not, i compare my ek43 with the other ek43, my ek43 get more powerful in the beginning. how do you think? its ok or not?
Very helpful. Curious if there's any adjustability with the chute to allow for centering of grinds into a portafilter.
Mark! Your videos are SO HELPFUL! Thanks a million!
Hi, can you suggest an alternative lubricant than Kluberpaste? It is just hard to get and seems unreasonably expensive.
Excellent Mark but I believe one critical step was missed. After the initial calibration, the inner aluminum ring needs to be rotated counter clockwise to align the initial mark with the 10½ cog mark on the brass ring prior to reinstalling the lid.
Wow that was so in-depth and informative. Thank you so much :D
Hey Mark....very informative! Keep up the great work!
The "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive" of EK videos, for sure! Two questions - have you found that using a torque screwdriver helps with either the faceplate or burr installation, and have you noticed more accurate tolerances on newer ones? I've heard that both the newer short and tall models have CNC'ed chambers, but I've also heard that the prebreakers still need to be sanded. Thanks so much!
Thanks for posting this Mark - very helpful. I was using a Baratza Vario to grind for my Rocket R58 but was constantly fiddling with it every time I roasted a new batch of beans. Since the K30 is stepless it's very easy to dial in the perfect setting for the optimum espresso pull with very minute adjustments. Obviously this machine is overkill for home use but I can't imagine NOT having it!
Great video Mark , err I mean Dr. Grinder . Great detail and patience explaining the whole process . Lots of tips for anyone doing their own grinder maintenance. thank you . Make and share some more videos :)
