    I am sad to say that I saw Sandra Joseph live and didn't think much of her voice at all (I mean she sings better than me) it has very little support and in my opinion doesn't fit the role. For those of you loving the London cadenza here...I'm sorry to say that since the 25th Anniversary actresses /singers seem to now favour the style in which Sierra performances in the Royal Albert Hall recording. At least when I saw the show.

    Seriously people, Emmy Rossum sucks compared to the others. She gets credit just because she was in the film. It was a miscast since she was too young to play this role

      @@ChristineDaaePhan07 I don't get why the gave her the role. She was very very young, her voice wasn't suitable for opera at that moment, she wasn't very beautiful and she acted fine but not great. Come on

    I'm sorry... what was Sandra's? Does this mean I have a chance on Broadway for Christine??! Lol Favorites - Celia Graham- 00:39 [ not like love but I love the sliding with her voice!!! ] Sierra Boggess- 1:10 Rebecca Caine- 1:35 Rachel Barrell- 6:12 [ I don't care what people say, absolutely love her! ] Thought I was done, but... Claire Moore- 7:32 absolutely captured my voice, I wasn't even paying attention anymore and her voice filled the speaker and I literally felt like she had the captivating voice of Christine Daee!

      And Dale Kristien! Rebecca Caine, Dale Kristien and Lisa Vroman are vocally the greatest Christines ever! Their voices are so crystalline and rich, with a slightly darker, gothic tone. Nowadays many Christines tend to sound very candy-like. While Sierra is magnificent when it comes to singing and probably my favourite vocal after the Holy Trinity, the thing that makes her so incredible is her unbeatable acting.

    Um... Disappointed in the final 'act' JK. You never know until you try! And after all of these... Sure wish I was near West End! I took my hubby to see his first (and last) production in Seattle a few years ago. This warbly style of vibrato vibrating right off the note so you can't hear the melody (definitely presented in a few of these)... Ruined it for him. I can't get him to go back ever again :/ (he does get to hear this song practiced a lot at home though lol).

    For me, the character of Christine in this aria is suppose to show off her skills and power to prove that she is well-suited to become a stunning and most sought after opera singer and not a chorus girl. Yes, Erik was in love with her but he also saw potential in her voice. He knew what this voice was capable of doing. Also note that the aria and cadenza is suppose to rival that of the diva Carlotta. I like the portrayal in the movie when Carlotta hears the success of Christine. The reason why they picked Miss Rossum for the part was to reflect the purity and innocence in her voice to her character. Though her rendition is sweet and charming, it is not enough to rival Carlotta. People came to the opera to be wowed by dazzling craftsmanship, grand spectacle and the lavish music of French Grand Opera. Why do you think people are on their feet when a tenor sings nine high C's or a soprano displays rapid fire of coloratura and sings a staccato high F with ease? The reason is because it is thrilling which is why I stick closely to Rebecca Caine and Lisa Vroman. Vroman gives us the standard which goes up to a soprano high C (C6...the other version such as the movie and original London cast goes to a Bflat 5). Here, she displays control and maintains a steady flow of energy that pours into the elegance and beauty in her voice. She gives a little time to F and G but those are not the most important notes. As the audience, you have a sense that she is coming to her greatest and highest note of the evening which she displays beautifully and holds it for a good amount of time. For those of you who are even more interested, check out Vroman singing the last couple of notes in the "title song" with Colm Wilkinson. Thrilling! Rebecca Caine's rendition or the West End cadenza has been my absolute favorite because it has a note that no one in the audience expects. On the first run, Caine displays evenness in her voice which easily goes up to a high D above high C (D6 above C6). I love the energy in this cadenza. Now many people will prefer the other cadenza but this one gives the character a little more boldness, I think. It is almost as if she is saying to Carlotta "I dare you." The audience's ears perk up as she graceful comes back half way down the scale still showing off her flexibility. She holds the high C for a while but Vroman beats her out by just about a half to one second more. Another reason I like these two voices is because there is more body and presence in the voice thus tying back my point about Christine showing she is well-suited to be a stunning and most sought after opera singer. If I were a regular opera goer during this time period, I would prefer to hear these voices.

      You picked my 2 favorite Christine's ever.. and I agree with you. I saw Rebecca Caine in Toronto 5 times. Her voice was sublime... She actually sounded better live because when she hit the high note at the end of her scale.. (not the sustained high C but the top high D) at times it almost sounded like she switched to her whistle register and would sustain it longer than on the recording. She didn't do this all the time but the couple of times she did it made me melt and sent some serious shivers down my spine. To date my father, who saw the show with me with Caine as Christine back in 1991 *yikes* always refers to her voice as "the voice of a Goddess". What I liked about her and Vromen is that they both have darker, richer tones than the usual Christine. I do not know what type of soprano Vroman is, but Caine is a Lyric soprano which changed drastically from her earlier years as Christine in London to her more operatic powerhouse vocals of her Toronto run (she took a hiatus from Phantom later in her run to sing the title character of the Canadian Opera Company's "Lulu" and she was fantastic). A lot of people have stated the Christine needs to "sound young" but I do not agree with this. Christine needed to have a voice that not only competed against a rival Operatic Diva like La Carlotta but would also have those in the audience listening in awe (think Callas). I have seen this show 18 times and Caine remains the best I have ever seen. In regards to Rossum, I liked her in the movie and thought at times, her voice sounded beautiful but I can accept Rossum as de-crowning Carlotta because.. well, film is a different medium and suspension of disbelief comes into play here.

      @JasRichlovesLA 10 лет назад

      E Fabian I thought I was the only one who thought this way. Everything of what you said is true. I think Lisa is a Lyric Soprano but I could be wrong. I have only seen the show 3 times (once on Broadway with John Cudia as the Phantom and twice in Ft. Lauderdale with Gary Mauver and Tim Martin Gleason as the Phantom). I have seen the 25th anniversary production with Sierra Boggess and Ramin Kaminloo (sp?). I have my strong opinions about that particular production but the show has still remained dear to me.

    • @EnzFab73
      @EnzFab73 10 лет назад

      I liked the 25th anniversary performance but I do think it could have been better. For instance, the overture that did not include a rising chandelier was a big let down for me. And Christine, Sierra Boggess, although good at times, didn't give me the wow factor of ... Caine :-) for instance. She was good though. I do not want to get into too much details of my views of Ramin because currently everyone loves him and I like his voice.. I recently saw him in Les Miserables here in Toronto and he was great.. but having seen Colm Wilkinson in Toronto (along with Caine) 20 + years ago ... they set an impossibly high standard that no one has been able to achieve for me yet and that includes Ramin. But I love the show and it is one of my faves.
