Impaled on Rainier: My Climbing Partner Who Fell 900 Feet
On July 4th, 2022, Aavron, an experienced climber, faced a life and death situation on Mt. Rainier, having been impaled by his ice axe through and through during a 900 foot fall down the mountain. This video details that story.
Special thanks to the Sharp End Podcast, who provided much of the audio from Aavron for this video.
Permission to tell this story has been given by Aavron and Ashley, the host of the Sharp end podcast.

    I never climbed to the top of con Peak, but I always see the road that takes you up there on my way to Nascimiento campground

    Incredible story, but if his partner broke both legs, we should have heard more about her! Also, why not show a pic of his chest?

      I don’t know Kristen as well so I don’t feel like it was my place to tell her story. The chest pics are pretty graphic

    honestly every time i hear of an accident story on a mountain im shocked ppl are always tied together and every time it only causes more injury not less

      My response would be that you generally don’t hear about all the times ropes save lives! It gives you a chance to survive. I think on a two person team it the margin for error is much smaller than with 3 or more members

    I appreciate those who climb and share their stories and views. It keeps people like me OFF THE MOUNTAINS to enjoy the majesty from bottom while not causing problems for passionate climbers at the top.

    Discovered your videos by accident and really enjoying them , especially the bike touring. I am a New England’s. Born here and lived here all my life. It’s a beautiful part of the US. FYI for the correct pronunciation of are Mt. Katahdin the emphasis is on the second syllable. Happy trails!

    Julian, That is a LOT of miles! Could that partially explain your huge thighs? All that pedaling must make for a gr8 workout. Denali has to be magnificent to see in person!!! A video is barely able to do it justice. Thanks for posting, Randy/GA

    • @julianmadridadventures
      @julianmadridadventures 14 дней назад

      I think it partially would!! 🤣 it was amazing, not picture can capture Denali like in person

  • @lazaruslazuli6130
    @lazaruslazuli6130 16 дней назад

    Mt. Denali's base is at 2,000 ft, and the mountain rises 18,310 feet above that, making it a striking contrast to the surrounding land. Compare that to Mt Everest, which sits on a plateau of 17,000 feet, and rises 'only' 12,000 feet to the summit. Therefore, Denali 'appears' more imposing than Everest.

      It’s as large or larger than any mountain on earth! For perspective, my shots were taken between 30-80 miles away

    Roping up to your climbing partner is a very stupid thing to do if you are not setting protection into the mountain. And people will continue to do it because it gives them a false sense of security.

    Outstanding post. Glad you were prepared. People please don’t try this. Line drivers who run the road think that bikers are absolutely insane. They make runs where the grade is such that they have to keep it rolling fast or they will not make it. If you get caught in bad weather or if the road gets washed out then there are no trucks for up to a week. Snows in summer. Met a Californian with a new unassembled bike in the Deadhorse airport he asked me to recommend a restaurant. I Kindly recommended he not try this. You have to be accustomed to being around bears and follow bear etiquette. Its all good until it is not, 1. Ride up on a bear kill, 2. Get caught between the cubs and mama, 3. Black bears that have no food. This is a black diamond run. Thank you.

    That was one hell of a long climb and detour! I’m a retired critical care nurse and appreciate the details you provided. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain and anguish you suffered. Your survival is a miracle, I can hardly believe that accident was survivable. Both climbers survived to tell their story. So glad you were able to get back to the sport you love! Thank you so much for posting this fantastic story!

    You forgot to include the point about how bad InReach carabiners are, and how great Rocky Talkys are hahaha. This dude’s story on The Sharp End (amazing podcast btw) years ago was quite literally the only reason I replaced my inreach biner with a DMM climbing-rated mini locker. Lifesaving stuff.
