you can do a specific gravity test for $10, just weigh the bar, and then weigh it in water and calculate the ratio. Pretty good test, very cheap, I understand a very heavily plated bar can pass the analytics test, but it would never pass the density test.

You were reading the weight in grains and not grams

1 troy ounce is 31.10348g so I don't know what you set your scales to. Won't really matter as you are calculating a ratio though

with calipers if you rotate the coin through 90 degrees, you won't have to guess you have the coin at widest point

a 1 oz coin should weigh 31.1 grams, 479 grams is > 1 lb. I think you are measuring grains! for specific gravity it doesn't matter, grains, ounces, grams as long as you are consistent. Specific gravity is not measured in grams, grains, ounces, it is just the ration of air weight to water tare weight.

Perth Mint has great products! I love the way their kilo bars look like loaves to me. Apostle Grace Lubega of Phaneroo said about 3 years ago on record that "things like gold" would be what defines wealth in the coming years. What a blessing for those who are able to prepare. Another great video featuring my favorite mint! Those Buffalo Girl rounds are awesome and want to get a tube of them. Honestly not a huge fan of the Tombstone rounds but the Omnia Type 2 rounds are pretty great.

Scottsdale is my favorite private mint by far. I grew up there too so I’m a bit biased. The only silver bars I stack are the 10 ounce stacker bars, they’re exceptional and stack like LEGOs. Crazy I’ve got half of those in my shopping cart waiting on another dip and paycheck but it’s all from the Scottsdale mint
