Zez Retro is a channel run by Louis Zezeran going through some of the more obscure items from his retro console collection. I like the find the stories behind how or why something was made.

Always Discharge Your CRT Tube Several Times!
This is a short video to remind y'all to take precautions when working on a CRT TV.
High voltages can build up underneath the anode cap and you need to ensure you discharge the tube in a safe way before you work on it.
In this clip, Steve from @RetroTechUSA is discharging a tube live on stream and we see it spark not once but twice! In fact, this tube sparked 4 times before the charge was eventually drained.
If you would like more information about how to safely discharge a CRT tube, please watch this classic video from Steve. In fact, this is the video which taught me how to build a discharge tool before he and I had even met. He really is the master of CRT repair.

What is a CRT yoke?? - Cathode Ray Podcast #58
Просмотров 511Год назад
An eclectic episode this week. Steve gives us an excellent explanation about what the yoke does in a CRT. It's the magnetic part which attaches around the pointy end of the tube and helps to guide the electrons on their short journey from the gun to the phosphors of the screen. We also talk more about the Chinese CRTs and the individual parts and circuit boards which you can buy on AliExpress. ...

Controversy in the retro community. Who doesn't love a bit of it? Ok fine, but lets talk about it anyway: * That BANGING Bang & Olufsen CRT Steve has been working on from 1989 * Update on the Chinese CRTs (we found someone buying them!) * Should Louis buy a 100hz Widescreen Trinitron which only has SCART inputs? * Hilarious PSIO drama * Our thoughts on the release of the Morph switch from Pixel...
When Comedy Goes Wrong - PixelFX - The Cathode Ray Podcast #56

In this special episode, Steve and I break down the recent promo video from PixelFX for their new "Retro GEM" product. The promo opens with a very divisive comedy sketch which we attempt to break down the same way I would analyze a comedian's Stand Up routine. We both like the product, the PixelFX team have a very strong track record in our community and we respect the work. That sketch tho. Wa...

True I use that and I struggle w lag… ps5 don’t av 😂
I love this song. It’s like a b-level JRPG store, like Tokyo Xanadu
The problem was people bought them and I had to drag one of those motherfuckers off the 2nd rack in the warehouse at Best Buy in 2004, and fit it in a f’n Mercedes SL convertible. God damn were those TV’s heavy compared to the same size concave TV.
8 min speaking non stop this is so tiring!!
Thanks for the awesome guide - worked straight away and used a multimeter instead as well :) Adapter works great with my stock SNES controllers, however having a problem with the SNES Topfighter QJ Arcade Joystick which is understandable with it being a 3rd party controller, I've pinged the developer for some pointers to see if there's any tweaks that i could make in the code to make it work!
I am very glad the video was helpful for you!
going to my nearest hard off almost once a week, this is life
Yay! Hard Off music makes me happy 😊
This tint issue is so much help thank you so much!
Thanks for the info! I found your video through a Web search after seeing an online classifieds listing (in Singapore) for a Japanese market Panasonic TV that, unlike the variant officially sold here, had composite video jacks and D terminal D4 (which also suggested to me that the TV has a 1366×768 LCD panel), whereas the variant officially sold here instead had separate component Y and composite video jacks and either could be used but not both. I could tell from their listing photos and other listings that they were using it for their Japanese region retro Nintendo and Sega consoles, like a Dreamcast (with a dead backup battery) that they connected for testing. It seems that they likely decided to sell the TV due to the polariser having been nicked (likely by accident), resulting in a little dot of white. Similarly, a Sony TV I have, model KDL-32W700B, was sold in Japan with the same model number but with an ISDB tuner instead of a DVB tuner, a Japanese-only UI and remote, and of course, in place of component video is a D terminal connector that still has RCA connectors for stereo audio. Your mention of D terminal not carrying audio makes this make sense for me! (4:43) I think the box is there to translate digital data to either D3 for native PSP games, video files, etc, or D1 for emulated PS1 games, at least from what I could tell reading Wikipedia. I do also remember that the PSP 2000 and 3000 series could more easily output composite video, which it probably did directly without any additional processing in the cable.
It makes sense that lag is same for 480i and 480p. OLED is sample-and-hold. It can just sample and hold alternating lines the same way as progressive lines, and only partly update the pixel matrix.
Hi, thanks for the Scart audio out.
GOD I MISS JAPAN
That's fucking scary i have a very good crt but with color patches problem. When i searched the internet they say you need ptc resistor but i am fucking scared to open this thing to change it. I am still a beginner and still learning but i know the risk of crt and the capacitors charge that can kill you. Idk is it really worth risking my life to play NES on this thing?
Man…Working at Hard Off should come with a ‘musical endurance’ medal! 😅 That song’s stuck in forever loop mode!
my favroi:te retro gaming store! i bought a wii you for 3,600¥ and my xiaomi mi max for 2,200¥ and also my amazon fire hd 8 2018.
The addiction is real. If you buy a CRT in the modern era for retro gaming, beware it will NOT be the only one. It will start having siblings like a Tribble.
Those dells have 16ms of delay
39:35 Steve and Louis showing great maturity
Why does this sound so good

In 1995 I remember editing as a kid, tape to tape from a panasonic camera and a couple s-vhs decks with relative control track, no timecode all patched with s-video. It worked. It wasn't any Beta but it totally worked. Insert edits worked. I spent way too many weekends on that thing editing random shit.
this song drives people insane what?what were they thinking
thank you Hard Off for making me search for this music on web after my recent trip to Japan.kinda addicted. Love you Japan 🎌
I always discharge multiple times. Always. Only took one time for me to get careless and not discharge a 2nd time. Yeesh!
Tellement de souvenir
this song is totally infectious and has led to so many unwise purchasing decisions while i've been in japan... but i need to know what it's like for the workers. do they ever walk in off-duty and just scream in agony when they hear this? i would. it's one song on repeat every hour they're open
You guys are the fucking best !⚡️⚡️⚡️
Nobody risks life for hobby pureness. 😊
You're deluded in yourown purporting of current values... You're trying to self serve such an inflated price point to justify you're clearly outrageous pass along costs and basic services.
if you think its so easy to repair a professional tv, you are perfectly able to do it yourself. Just as you are able to go and repair a vinage car yourself if you please
"Wait. What the hell am i gonna do with a laserdisc? And why did i buy it??"
That's a Japanese Virtua Gun, was only called a Stunner in USA. You can just leave the switch there and cut off the acuator off the trigger instead, just means you can't reverse it later. The design is great, it is near identical to the Sega arcade guns, you can even use the trigger from the arcade guns, if you put the start button elsewhere you can use the outer shell from the arcade guns too, but there isn't much point, it is near identical. If you want to see a real shit trigger, try a Glock with a NY trigger fitted... Then you'll know a shit trigger!!
All time classic. Love knowing I'd hear this after making my friends walk 10 miles to another Hard Off
POV I just rode a combined 80 minutes by train and bus to realize I have to poop
Gotta find the nearest Lawson!
gonna play this while i buy a wii for $1 🙃
Martin is a hero. Bought his replacement RGB card for my JVC monitor and it works great!
もしかして日本だけじゃなくて海内でも人気がある!?
The best part is that fact that this song does not jist come up on your feed, we all looked this up😂
I just found one dumped on the roadside with the remote, in full working order. 😂
Dear friend, I would like to do a USB to NES adapter, so I could play with my homemade Arkanoid Vaus controller on original material.
Hi The process is very similar, is there some specific part which is giving you difficulties that I may help you with?
@@ZezRetro is there any encoding or things I should know before buying cable and trying this new project?
What do you mean by "encodings"? Here is the daemonbite page showing you how to wire in the cable github.com/MickGyver/DaemonBite-Retro-Controllers-USB/tree/master/NESControllersUSB
@@ZezRetro thanks my friend ... I think I got what I need to begin
@@ZezRetro by "encoding" I mean doing the code to the arduino to make it recognizable by the NES

I love how he's trying to look past the desync
Hard Off Junk section with this music blasting is my happy place.
I can feel my wallet losing funds just listening to this
Thanks for this
that's great! Do you folks believe is it possible to use a raspberry to emulate the GBA hardware and recreate the wideboy device?
Not sure, you would need to hit up Konrad on twitter and ask him
I also just got that Namco Soul Edge stick... but for 2000 yen :D Same goes for that GunCon2 Time Crisis II bundle! Happy to see that haha!
You seen Ari Matti on Kill Tony?
Yea sir 😀
Sounds like you're Australian, so I'm assuming you're in Australia. I just picked up a Thrustmaster T300 from Cashies'. It didn't come with the mounting 'thingie', so I was contemplating mounting it directly to the desk. Glad I found your video. If you want a quick-n-easy release, check out Bunnings and look for 'Richmond M6 x 40mm Handbolt'. Should be the size you need and comes with a convenient star head, which you can use to tighten/loosen the bolt with your hand.
Good advice! You are half right, I am Aussie but I live in Estonia. I have since mounted this T300 to another desk where it sits permanently now. The original desk still has the holes but they don't bother me 1. I have a handy pen holder and 2. I can quickly mount another wheel, the Logitech GT is good for PS3 and PS2 compatibility
great interview! im also intrigued about the stand up comedy in Estonia that hes talking about. lol
