Triad "Occupy HK" exposing police lies
Triad gangsters occupy large swathes of Hong Kong's public roads and parking spaces, charging drivers a massive premium for public road space or cheap public meters.
One location is Cameron Lane, a charming "street music" hideaway in the heart of the tourist district. It's home to Asia's largest music store: but has been entirely taken over by an aggressive triad gang.
This gang fills up all available space with customer cars, jockeying them around to fit but leaving no space for pedestrians or shoppers.
In a recorded conversation, a police detective told Transit Jam the issue had been solved: but a visit to the site the next night showed the police statement to be a dramatic lie.

"What is important is citizen awareness of their own behaviour," he said. "So it is also important that people know the rules and regulations, the proper behavior in crossing roads collectively. So typical, alas. What always gets me is the certainty and determination of frontline staff that you, person with bicycle, should not be anywhere around here. Is it innate, part of Hong Kong's DNA, or have they been instructed to keep the cycling menace out of sight of normal people?

Why not make the pedestrian crossing points smaller upto 60% as it seems they are far too long ( wide ) for what is needed. Maybe that could help in traffic & pedestrian use. & better control. Otherwise i really DON'T!!! see it improving or helping either traffic or pedestrians get from A to B or A to Z whatever it is it definitely needs a re-think & & re-design on it Maybe they could take a look at how Holland has managed theirs & with some ajustments between the two countries they should be able to come up with some sort of solution to help bad traffic situations like this not just for China, Japan but, for other countries that also have similar issues Russia is proberly another major country with traffic issues ( Proberly has in access of over 300 to 500 road accidents a day possibly more!!!). So, It seems Holland has the best solution so far & other countries should have a nice talk with them on how to solve theirs.

This is something the police proposed too (shortening the crossing) - I can see some benefit, in that it would perhaps highlight the remaining crossing and drivers might respect it more. But then again, I've just now walked through Causeway Bay and even the regular-sized crossings are blocked 99% of the time, so perhaps the crossing width isn't really so much of an issue. As you say, it definitely needs a re-think!

@@transitjam If there isn't traffic lights at these pedestrian crossing points then it could be a really good idea to install them at these points including cameras for those who disobey the rules of the road system ( running red lights, blocking the crossings with a definite fine & prosecution with pena!ty points on their driving or riders license aswell. Hopefully this will help control the traffic much better. & why should the police make the alterations to the crossings whern clearly it's not upto them but, the citie's council to deal with along with the countries government to sort out no one else it's not their responsability. I do hope thery sort it out quickly.

@@transitjam read, thanks for that. Probably taxi driver went on the yellow signal of traffic light ( if he failed to stop ) and the cyclist ignored the traffic lights either. I often see cyclists there going wrong directions and disobeying the traffic lights. Sadly it won't bring his life back, RIP.
