It was always intended to mean that your customers are "right" in the collective sense that, if people aren't buying your product, you're selling the wrong thing. Not that an individual should be able to walk into a store, say any damn fool thing they please, and be treated like that's infallible truth.

I guess unless you are working in an ER, this should be the way how you should adress everyone when you are working with customer contact. But seriously, I've actually been working in an ER for several years, I wish I could have done that to some patients but .. welll... so I just let out my anger at a customer in a supermarket yelling at a cashier, telling him to show some fucking respect after I finished a night shift leading to the dude leaving silently (was a pensioner getting really angry somehow). Just in general: even if you pay for food,health service or your groceries, this wont give you the benefit of disrespecting other people or treat them like your slaves.

I understand his mindset. As cooks and Chefs we have a level of pride in the food we serve, for those who care anyways. We get customers that we are more than happy to serve but also those I get warned about when they show up.

Chefs are the biggest weirdos in the world, self proclaimed gods who act tough and are super arrogant and aggressive yet not one of them could handle a serious punch to face which seems to be very needed in this industry, its food, anyone can cook it's not rocket science, like people are just dying to eat a certain chefs food and your this god who can deprive them of such amazing gifts haha, seems to be a great professional for adolescent adults and narcissistic types.

Paying for something doesn't entitle you to be rude and obnoxious about it when nothing bad is being done to you. True story, that happened in the mid-90s: a friend of mine who is herself married to a very famous London restaurateur and hotelier has a daughter who, some years ago, in her 20s, went with a group of friends to one of MPW's restaurants. (Mirabelle, on Curzon Street) The young lady said, "I think you know my parents, M....... and D.... L....." MPW replied, "I don't really give a fuck who your parents are," making a fool of himself and embarrassing the young woman. She duly reported the incident to her parents. Fast forward several months. MPW, and a party of his friends, went to one of the restaurants owned by this family, without having booked a table, either. The young woman's mother often acted as hostess in the restaurant. She said to MPW, "I don't really want you in this establishment. Please leave."PW, mortified, asked why. The lady said, "You were very rude to my daughter at YOUR restaurant, and you are no longer welcome at OURS." He slunk away with his friends, and never attempted to go there again.

I've worked in shopping centre food court and people there are some of the worst. I've seen people dragging chairs from other tables to theirs and use that to put their feet up on, or just put their feet up right on the table adjacent to them if no one is sitting there. either with their shoes on or taken their shoes off. High school kids likes to buy stuff from supermarket and throw wrappers and food and drinks everywhere, quiet often group of 4-6 of them would take up 3 tables and 12 seats. little kids running around jumping on tables and chairs and playing the floor is lava while their parents don't give a crap (by parents I mean 99% of the time just the mother there or group of few mothers), their response mostly boils down to that they believe they are entitled to it, their kids are well behaved at home but here they are permitted to go off because the clean up service comes with the purchase of the food (have to get maximum value for their money apparently) and that they don't think the kids are disturbing anyone. 95% of the customers are very good, keep things tidy like they would at their home. but every day there is always that 5%, except the threshold to calling security to kick them out is a lot higher than regular restaurants so the staff have to deal with it.
