As a kid in Arkansas, I remember hearing about these awesome go fast boats. I was only about 16, but had I been able, I would’ve been in the middle of that mess! Awesome what those guys did for the racing community. Who cares if it was funded by drug dollars. EVERYTHING is funded by drug dollars!

I got to watch a lot of 47 Apache with triples in the late 80s and 90s OPT APBA lotta fun I was even fortunate enough to own a little 22 Apache with a 454 MerCruiser magnum

Winning the 1984 World Championship in offshore class 1 was Alberto Petri in the boat Miura, race event held in Viareggio, Italy. The race Apache Saccenti won was a World Cup race at Key West.

Bob is one of the all time gentlemen of the offshore world. While millionaires would buy his big boats and rub elbows with the elite class, he gave as much time, effort and history, helping me buy a used 21 Apache. A truly cool dude.

In my younger years I knew Bobby. I sold him batteries for the boats at Apache in the early 80's. He had worked with my dad years & years ago. My father was putting the transom step on 29' open fishing boats in the late 70's before it became popular on the racing boats.

Great shots of Ye Olde Miami Marine Stadium, good times, great hydroplane races, can't believe City of Miami abandoned it over relatively minor damage from Hurricane Andrew... bloody hell, 30 years it's been... one fine and sturdy piece of Modernist architecture, with its hyperbolic-paraboloid "hypar" roof structure, which allowed that huge UNobstructed overhang... and yet stands up to hurricanes!

Saw this boat at the NJ Offshore powerboat race in the 1980s. Sounded great but lost an engine and came back to port.
