Ornamental Grasses - Easily Pruning and Thinning Them Out
Ismael Vargas shows you how to prune different kinds of grasses, one a ground covering and the other ornamental.
To prune ornamental grasses, you want to remove all dead material and then you can either thin it out or cut it all the way down to about 3 inches.
The tools used to cut the ornamental grasses are Felco 2 hand pruners or Nessagro Astron Sod Cutter and Remover Hand Held Sickle Tool.
To prune the ground covering grass, use a serrated blade like the Nessagro Astron Sod Cutter and pull the grass back as you slide the blade across and cut the grass.
Thank you for watching and I hope this helps you and your yard! Like, subscribe and please share this to help somebody you know.

    I had no idea aloe vera blooms!!! I wonder what I’m doing wrong I’ve been growing it for about fave years now

    • @VargasLandscapingPresents
      @VargasLandscapingPresents Месяц назад

      Don't beat yourself up for no aloe vera blooms!! Aloe vera plants grown outdoors don’t always bloom, but they’re more likely to flower with the right conditions. They need to be mature, usually several years old, and should get plenty of sunlight. Warm climates with mild winters help, and they typically flower in late winter or spring. Slightly dry conditions can encourage blooming, but too much neglect will stop it. Using a balanced fertilizer during the growing season can also promote flowers. Even with good care, some aloe plants may not bloom, as it depends on the variety and environment. Best of luck!

    Aussie here, these are our native plants, pruning in spring/summer while they are blooming is exactly what to do, they flower most of the year, it ensures constant and a thicker coverage of flowers. Winter pruning can kill the plant

    Bought a place and the old owner had been "shrubbing" all the trees in the back for years. The pomegranate and orange trees were cut into box shapes and are incredibly dense with growth. I've been actively thinning out the pomegranate tree in hopes that we can start seeing some fruit in the next year or so. I thinned out the orange tree immediately and we have already seen an increase in the fruit! Your page has been very informative for some of those projects I have! Thanks again! I'm excited to get home and do some landscaping!

    hello, where is a good place for a coconut farming and to intergrate other crops like pinsapples in costa rica?

    • @VargasLandscapingPresents
      @VargasLandscapingPresents 3 месяца назад

      Coconuts are grown all along the coast in Puntarenas Province. On the pacific coast in San Carlos there are good places to grow pineapples. Pineapples can be raised along the pacific coast and some parts of Guanacaste.

    • @VargasLandscapingPresents

      If you cut the main branch it could grow more from the cut. Keep watering and fertilizing it and it will build new branch structure. Good luck!

    Not sure how to describe this, Do you leave the brown thick pruned trunks? At the bottom of the plant, I have layers of brown thick trunks/stems after Ive pruned. They are still firm and not loose

    • @VargasLandscapingPresents
      @VargasLandscapingPresents 4 месяца назад

      The ones that are loose, you cut it with a sharp knife or handsaw. The ones that are firm, just cut the top in the narrow part with a handsaw or sharp blade. Cut it so the opposite sides are at the same height so it’s more symmetric. So the trunk will look better.

    • @VargasLandscapingPresents
      @VargasLandscapingPresents Месяц назад

      How are your bird of paradise plants doing now? Many variables could cause this...too much sun, too little, too much water, too little, not enough sun, etc. I suggest cutting the brown or yellow leaves at the base to stimulate new growth.

    The hand saw being used in this video is absolutely useless, the teeth are too deep and jagged and constantly gets stuck. This is my own experience and I’m sure many others experiences also. A small cheap chainsaw works best.

    • @VargasLandscapingPresents

      It depends on the situation, by the time you go to the truck and get the chainsaw and put gasoline you could be done with 3 branches. It did take a long time though! Hahahaha.
