The temple was finished in 780AD. Most of it was destroyed by fire in 1135 during a time of war.
The title has a tautology. It should be Akishino Temple or Akishino-dera.

Thanks for your comment. This is due to the fact that there are few tourists due to covid-19 and it is a weekday.
Really amazing temple. Despite being a little bit far from other touristic points in Nara (Todai-ji temple, Kofuku-ji, Kasuga-Taisha shrine...) I think I will include on my list of places-to-visit.
You have to take your time to visit this temple, but it's worth it. Please visit this temple.
I have a question, do you have to pay to enter the temple grounds because it seems like you're just walking straight through

what an amazing place
This place is far from the center of Nara. Furthermore, it is a place where there are few foreign tourists because the transportation is not good. However, I highly recommend this place because you can see such a superb view.
@@explorejapan256 My plan is to visit Mt Yoshino then here since they're on the same rail line. Having visited Hasedera in Kamakura, I feel like I need to visit here too

Anyone know which building housed the library? 5,000 Buddhist manuscripts of the Mind Only School were brought there from China, in the 8th Century I think. So it was the best place to study that philosophy.

Yukio Mishima's novel Runaway Horses has a scene at this place. It says there's a Sai Shrine nearby where the god Aramitama is worshipped, somewhere on Mt. Miwa. Perhaps the Sai Shrine was a made up secondary location IDK. However he mentions cedar trees and red pines and lilies.
