Bike Rack 2.0 - Interior Ford Super Duty - Fits 2 eMTB Bikes! | Part 24
Bike Rack 2.0 - This is essentially the original bike rack we built over 4 years ago (see original video). It was built for our 2019 Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab. We then moved it to our 2020 Ford F250 Super Cab.
But we needed to modify it further to fit the longer / taller Trek Rail eMTB bikes (29" tires). This Rack 2.0 version video shows how the rack works. We also show how we use the storage area.
Interior bike racks are the BEST option for those with expensive bikes. It gives much greater security and protection from weather (dirt, dust, rain, snow). Plus, having your bikes onboard offers flexibility for those quick last minute bike rides.
Hope this video will give you ideas on what is...

Do you need a separate cell plan to make this work or any monthly subscription fee? Thanks
No plans or fees. It is just amplifying your existing cell phone antenna. Essentially giving it a much increased range.
Are you and your husband just getting out of the sport all together or doing something completely different?
Still big into off road... We built 2 other rigs since this one sold. Just have been rather occupied with real estate projects. We plan to get back to sharing videos but realistically they are not the highest priority as they are time intensive and don't produce much financially. But we do enjoy sharing info and helping people which the videos are great for! Thanks for watching.
NAH, IT IS AN OVERRATED PIECE OF JUNK, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY A HOUSE INSTEAD, OR BUY YOURSELF A USED DODGE RAM TRUCK.
We owned the truck and camper in 2016. Since then have owned two other truck campers. FWC is fine for what it is (although expensive). Tundra was a great fit for the camper with upgraded suspension and tires; although anything heavier requires an HD truck. Our current truck is a Super Duty and it has much greater capacity
remember when cars were interesting
Especially simple and light weight. More fun than modern space ships
What you guys are getting for MPG?
We averaged 17mpg. Best was nearly 20. Worst was 14mpg.
@@TruckCamper Great!
In 2017 I bought a 2010 Northstar 650 popup that the top and tent material was lost. they said they noticed it missing when they got home and never found it. the brackets that held it down had pulled out of the plywood they were attached to with screws.
That sounds like a project!
Thanks for the video report. Those lookout towers are very neat. Did you find that there were areas that were not passable on your trip?
They are! It's fun to find them. We had to bypass one section due to active fire. Otherwise, we got through. Electric pole saw was rather useful. :)
I just bought the same rims and I’m having trouble with wheel weights contacting my caliper. Was wondering where they put your wheel weights and if there was any issue balancing them? Thank you in advance !
We had issues once... The shop put the weights in the center and the caliper knocked them off. Put them on the inside of the wheel or outside offset of caliper zone. Works great!
The blue in line hose filters say right on them they are not for disinfection. They filter out chemicals that's what they are supposed to do
They might help with taste but not a functional filter for health or water quality concerns
#1How bad is the Idaho BDR with a camper roll over side hills and the like #2 clearance up top on trees ALIVE OR DEAD#3 frequency of streams to refill drinking water and camp?
Keep weight low to help with COG. No issues with proper suspension. We have an electric pole saw for trees and use it plenty to cut through as needed. Plenty of water fill opportunities - our 40g tank will last 10 days typically
You can bet the 250 is built better than the putt, putt house.
Not sure what that means. But ours has been excellent.
you sound like you're trying to convince yourself a three-quarter ton is the same as a 1 ton. you have a lot of payments on your three-quarter ton and I feel that but it's not a 1 ton and it will never be. Despite all your recitation of statistics, which seems to be a special skill of the cars and coffee generation. I'd like to see you swap suspension components on a heavy duty truck rather than talking about it
We had one payment. And we custom ordered the truck. We chose exactly what we wanted. Video is to explain the physical differences which is nearly nothing. We did swap all the suspension and we did post videos on modifications. I do all the work myself.
What's the mpg?
Depends on conditions and speed. 10-12mpg is average for road driving under 65mph.
What's the mpg?
Off road will vary. On road 10-12mpg keeping speed under 65mph. Not bad considering the modifications
If you guys think that 4WD trail was rough 3 years ago then you should see what it looks like now…
Exciting! It's on the return list. Looking forward to it
Clutching? For those oversize tires?
Yes. We have another video that covers all the alterations in detail
Maybe you should have run a load range E
Letter load rating is an old metric. The important rating is load index and weight rating. Tire manufacturer has pressure charts for psi at specific loads. We use that with actual loaded scale weight to determine on road pressures. These were great tires overall but all tires have shortcomings.
@@TruckCamper So in order to meet the load you were carrying you had to pump up the pressure to the point that the tire wore in the center. Sounds to me like you needed a tire with a higher load rating. I run Toyo Open Country for almost 20 years on a Dodge pulling a 20,000 lb gooseneck. Tires didn't wear in the center...of course they were load range E
I had no idea there was a 6.2 liter diesel engine. Do they still offer that?
6.2L is a gasser. Exceptional motor. Many examples well over 500k
Thanks for that info about the different options models
Very welcome! :)
She’s good he’s dumb
It’s purdy 😅
Agreed. :)
I’m getting 8MPG f150 no trailer on 7feet palomino Truck camper I can literally see the Gas gauge go down. No good I get 17MPG with nothing on the bed or hitch going back to roof top tent ⛺
Need to watch the boost gauge. Keep out of boost and keep speed under 65mph. You should be able to see double digits but it will never be great...
Dude get a diesel
No thanks. Diesels are much too complicated. Most repairs dealers will remove the truck cab (faster due to how cramped the engine bay is). This motor is proven to be 500k plus if maintained. Diesel power is nice but not worth the trade offs for me.
Electric Jacks makes a world of difference especially being a single guy,, absolute game changer, ,, and they are not cheap, by any means, but so worth it,, nice to have a partner you can do that with, never take it for granted, just saying
Agreed. We'll stated.
SUMMARY : Buy a Bruder or don't do it.
Haha - seems reasonable 🤣
you need a haircut
True... thanks for the styling advice
Any problem getting it thru the door? My truck camper door is 21 inches wide. Looks like I'll have to remove the frame to get a fridge inside? My Norcold is getting old & tired.
We haven't needed to remove it. But it would be a tight squeeze or remove the door frame. It's easy to remove the door anyhow.
@@TruckCamper Aha! I assumed you replaced an existing absorption fridge. Didn't know manufacturers are installing DC fridges now. Thanks for the reply!
@@garyausher We custom ordered the camper with the compressor fridge. :)
The ford dealership everyone from even surrounding states go to is one that does things a little bit differently. Theyve proven themselves in the past. But everyday a person has to prove their worth.
It is extremely helpful having a good dealer!
@TruckCamper doubt you're in the area but if you ever are, Lynch Ford in Mount Vernon, IA. No-commission dealer. I'm just a happy customer. No affiliation sponsorship or anything.
New generation meet the world lol
Old generation learn about new generation trucks. Full circle
Suspension is the difference
Not always. Camper prep on the F250 yields the same spring pack.
So 35 3/4 is the maximum tire size for ford super duty tire holder. Great information thank you
You got it!
Doublestack roof pannels. One layer affixed to the roof. 2nd layer slides off to be an awning.
Interesting idea. May be challenging securing for hwy travel.
@@TruckCamper mine just has an aluminum track that let's the top array slide across the roof and the extendable awing posts for the right side. The posts pin into place on the side and the aluminum front track keeps air from getting under it while moving. It's pretty stable. Think, tool box drawer with no top, but with the front supported by legs. Instead of the track.
Any issues with the glue drying out in the full sun before getting the dicor tpo membrane on?
It wasn't but could be! 2 people and moving quickly is helpful. We did 50% of the roof at a time.
@@TruckCamper It's crazy that dicor doesn't indicate how much to lay down!
@@MASONROSS69 They don't want DIY
@@TruckCamper I'm not sure thats true, if that was the case they wouldn't sell their product to consumers. Did ya'll end up buying a new camper yet?
They don't sell direct to customers. Just through dealers... but who knows! Definitely not for faint of heart. HAHA Not yet... another build in process
Our camper is high of the ground also. After looking at several options we finally decided using a regular 6ft."A" frame aluminum step ladder. It is light and at night we stand it up inside. Reverse the operation in the morning. Lay it down inside when traveling. Home depot $80,00 without any installation.
Thanks for sharing. Lots of ways to do it.
Thanks for the video. Can you tell me how often these were rotated?
Every oil change 3k miles. Issue is the tire carcass design. Yokohama has the same issue with the MT tires. It is accentuated by heavy loads at higher pressure. We always ran proper pressure for actual loads within tire recommendations. Our replacement tires on the same truck after 1yr and 10k miles have no issues. It is not a truck issue or maintenance issue. It is a tire design problem. Still solid tire. Track well. Durable.
@TruckCamper gotcha, thank you!
Did you put butyl tape on the side wall behind the roof membrane like it says in the instructions on Dicor website? Just curious as I am getting ready to lay my Dicor TPO membrane and seems silly to put butyl on the side wall behind the membrane.
It isn't necessary unless screwing or penetrating the wall. Butyl tape should be used anywhere screws or penetrations are. Have fun!
@@TruckCamper The metal side wall gutter rail has screws penetrating the sidewall
@@MASONROSS69 yep. That's where you need the butyl tape
I'm looking into a mobile grooming business and I'm comparing the ideas of either a mobile elite unit or truck/camper/trailer 14' or smaller. this is a great video with information to help with the base ideas. I am not experienced at towing and backing up a trailer so I would want a newer truck with a backup assist like the Toyota trucks, but I'm partial to dodge or chevy. everything we have, tools, supplies ETC are all GM based..
Trailers are a hassle and can be tricky to tow/park. Just need to gain experience. Ideally not relying on the "tech" but learn the skills to maneuver and haul properly. That being said... the biggest benefit of a trailer is the ability to drop anywhere. Everything is a trade off!
Did you sell it yet? And if I may ask you a question if you were going to haul a camper of this size or slightly larger would you personally prefer a crew cab short bed or a crew cab long bed?
Camper is payment pending. We would absolutely buy the same truck we currently have (short bed / extended cab). Shorter wheelbase makes maneuvering much easier (in town or off road). We owned the crew cab / short bed previously and sold it after 1 test trip. It's that different! Our truck is still for sale and fully dialed if you want a turn key rig: forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/expedition-ready-2020-f250-on-37s-locked-f-r-4-30-gears-hp-d60-psc-hydro-fox-2-5-camper-875w-solar-lithium-40g-h2o-98k-arizona.244221
@@TruckCamper thanks for your reply. I get you...I own the same truck configuration but its with the 5L engine (F150). I am pretty bent on buying a diesel. had them before and just got to have the power, but after what you said, I am leaning more towards the short bed. thanks
A stock tacoma will make it a lot of places that thing never would... you guys almost rolled it on a rather easy road, its in way worse shape now than it was 3 years ago and its a very busy place thanks to people who need to broadcast everything they do ..
True... Lighter, smaller vehicles can manage certain obstacles more easily. However, we didn't almost roll. It may look tippy but the COG is rather low compared to the height. It was surprisingly stable. Thanks for watching
Hey if you’re into rock gardens like that, personally for me, no way. I appreciated seeing the wolverines capability. I’m very happy with my 2024 x2 1000 xtr
It is fun to see what is possible! Polish up the driving skills as well...
The places I've worked over the last 28 years in wireless have nearly all ran super dutys. a few chevys in the mix which I have a few months, maybe 10k miles. but I'll touch on that later. I've put a lot of off road miles on super duties. They're long and as a work truck can be pretty heavy(all diesels) with a service bed full of tools and hardware can push you over 10k lbs. easy. While not rock crawling, roads up to mountain top microwave sites span the range of maintained, smooth dirt, sand pit to rocky moonscape. They get there. They're stiff so you might be a little taxed. The hill descent on the newer ones makes coming back down little trouble. Stock suspension and at best some BFG KO2s once the factory rubber is done. The only limiting factor is their size, which in a work truck, you like more space, switchbacks will add another point to your X point turn and their length might also be fatal to the running boards/step. If I could change anything would be their approach and departure angles, without a lift and stock bumper it kinda sucks. Stacking rocks up a hill has happened and hitch receiver drag on the way down. Other than snow requiring a snowcat, never failed me. My short time in a Chevy 2500 HD was OK, street ride s nicer, softer but less sure off road and you get rocked side to side a bit more. Seemed to follow ruts more forcefully. The HD hood is a bit much too. I didn't hate it but I'd rather be in a Super Duty.
Great to hear your experience! I do think the Super Duty has the best physical components of the HD trucks. They are well built. Proven. :)
What are you asking for it?
It sold last year.
Has this rig sold?
Not yet... Although camper sold yesterday. Check link in video description for contact
Cheese and rice y’all seem to wholesome 100% but RIP the belt with that throttle usage. Any other sxs would have ruined the belt
RMAX uses a wet clutch. It is crazy how well it works. Never hear the belt slip. Yamaha gives the belt a lifetime warranty which seems nuts!
@@TruckCamper lol yep. It’s a 10 year warranty but still pretty crazy stuff! 👍🏼
Why you remove the jacks. most leave them there.
On road less wind drag and better stability. Off road less width, weight and better clearance. Many places we've gone would risk ripping the jacks off.
5:40 ngl this is why I want to see what they're doing when they pull my vehicle back there. it takes me less than 30mins to do an oil change but almost a full day for them and you never know what they're putting into the vehicle. if it's the proper fluid, amount etc. I just rather have the peace of mind of knowing it was done right and do it myself. No pt in having the dealership cont to service it because it's "free" if that free job completely ruins the truck down the line. correct me if I'm wrong but the issues you describe like overfilling and so on could cause serious problems in the future one would think
I agree. I mostly do all upgrades and maintenance. However, it can be less hassle to have the dealer service while under warranty (if failure of claims happen). We still check all the work done to verify. Never assume. :)
Ye I understand. How did you catch that they put the wrong oil in? I could never check that since dealerships dont show me what oil is being used
@angell6425 It was listed on the receipt. Although the technician claimed it was a typo... yeah
@@TruckCamper oh wow! yeah pretty sure mine doesn't list the type - just something like "premium oil change service" but it's been a long time. I've always been paranoid about places using the wrong type
The echo sucks go outside
Echo is a bummer. But lighting is much better inside! :)
Great job. Building a shuttle bus. Will do 12v now thank you for your review
It's the way to go!! Have fun
I have had all types of fridges and you need a way to let the heat out and you do need away to let heat out even your home needs a vent to let heat out so does your home fridge reach around back and feel the heat but nobody does that with big ac unit .
These fridges have interior vents top/bottom. They are designed to be installed in cabinets (no exterior vent). Propane do need exterior vents for both heat and hazardous gas. No contest between 12v compressor fridge to propane absorption.
