In 1963 I was 7. A friend of mine, a few years older, was explaining the kind of thing required to land a spacecraft like Starduster like that. Well, it took a few decades but thst kind of landing is possible and commercially viable right now. Back then such a labding was conceivable but difficult to achieve.

I remember this from when I was 6 or 7. This episode.

Really enjoyed this one with all the varied planets assisting. They don’t try to explain the hostile worlds but I can imagine various bases in the solar system that orbit or use a gas giant’s moon.

Except for the absurd mixing up of a Star System with the term of a galaxy, this was a lot of fun. The cooling ray is another bit of odd science but I’ll let that pass. As for blowing up huge bombs to alter the movement of heavenly bodies. I’ve seen that in more current SF!

I was a big fan of Space Angel when I was a boy. I must have drawn the Starduster a thousand times. What’s remarkable is the attention to detail in the art and in many cases, the script. The attempt at realism is commendable. There are a lot of references that showed up a few years later in Star Trek: everything from Earth command, to a league of planets, the Athenians (whose culture resembles the Romulans), and even minutia like briefing rooms. Spock’s scanner looks like Taurus’ scope! Wondering if Roddenberry caught a few of these episodes…

I remember this show playing in the afternoon after school in the 1980s. I didn’t really like it much back then but out of a sense of curiosity, I started to watch these recently. I find the show to be oddly engaging with a foreboding atmosphere. Thank you for uploading these. I hope to find the rest of the series online after I am done watching this playlist.
