I do not understand the purpose of adjusting the tonearm so that it is parallel to the turntable deck at rest. In such a position, the stylus cannot make contact with the record. What am I missing?

Except there is one small problem, no one sells incandescent bulbs anymore since they were banned. So if fluorescent and LED doesn't work, is it useless? If not, what bulb will work?

There should be a tool. Alignment can be quite a challenge if you dread miniscule adjustments, lack patience, and absolutely refuse to trust your own eyes. 🥴 "Eyeing up" a $500+ cartridge just bothers me on principle. Like, which eye? Right eye-dominant, left eye-dominant. I don't know..... Wouldn't it be incredible if there was a 3D tool to do this in one simple maneuver. I suppose the almost incalculable volume of cartridge/headshell combos would make it a doozy but it must be possible? Something 3D printed, and designed to order. The cartridge/headshell could be lowered into the block with negative space inside and then snug up the screws. Maybe I'm a dreamer....

Hi I just bought you Big Ben record weight and I have an audio Technica At -LP60-X turntable. Is it safe to use on the turntable with out damaging it. I have a rubber mat. I just want to know if it’s safe. Thanks

I’m totally confused by this. UV light can work to disinfect surfaces, but it doesn’t magically get rid of dirt and grunge. It seems like it’s basically a vibrating pad cleaner, of the type that he been around for decades. This type is often incorrectly called an “ultrasonic” cleaner, but it’s not that either. Ultrasound is beyond the range of human hearing, but this one can be clearly heard when it’s operating.

Question when aligning your cartridge: Can you move the alignment tool so the stylus fits centre or does that not count? Like is it supposed to be entered by only rotating the platter with the alignment tool sitting still or if you move the tool on the platter so it hits centre is that cheating and not doing it properly?

how come there is no overhead shot WHERE the cartridge lines up with what!!! The front of the shell lines up with the long straight line???

Could you just attach the grounding wire to the ground on the amplifier if you don’t have a preamp?

Very good explanation, but if we ground the Anti-Static tonearm to the pre-amp, where do we ground our Turntable? Can we ground both to the pre-amp?

That’s not how you align VTA I’m pretty sure you measure the level when on the record.

IMPORTANT: It is the cantilever that you need to insure is aligned properly. The cantilever may or may not be in line or straight in the cartridge. (i have several that are not) With stylus in the center spot on the protractor, the cantilever should be in a straight line with the protractor line, (matching the straight center line on the protractor). This can be very difficult to see on some cartridges. A strong magnifying glass and lots of light help.

Step 1: overhang. Without that, this whole kit is utterly useless. Apart from the fact there IS no "1 protractor fits all" solution. If it was, that should mean the following variables would have no meaning: differences in pivot position on the table, effective armlengths, straight or S shaped arms, etc etc... Don't be fooled... There is no "golden egg".

could use a bit more detail. what's the "m" button for? what's the other 'battery' (?) slot for on the bottom of the dYnAmOmeTeR? others have mentioned curiosity about azimuth alignment. between this video and the instructions, I was able to figure it out---me dumb (put batteries in backwards and had to spend 20 minutes prying them out)--but with such a nice kit, y'all should go through the whole process and details.

This video doesn't show the actual alignment of the cantilever which is the most important part nor does the kit allow for setting the "overhang" of the stylus which has to be completed before you use the protractor. Just incomplete information here.

A purple LED does not produce UV light. Also this does not vibrate at ultrasonic frequencies (≥ 20kHz), but very much lower. It still cleans the stylus, but it ain't ultrasonic.

Ultra violet rays and ultra sonic sound? Sounds like BS.

Great Video, I tried to do mine all on my own, but was ok with it just guessing and using my eye, but I knew there was much more to this, as I use to DJ back in my teens but that was many moons ago now, back then I used the best stylus as it was for DJing and moving the record back and forth to do DJing but after seeing your video here I ordered that kit and now will do it properly so my records sound solid and no terrible sound. My Ortophon Bronze says not to use any liquid on the stylus because it might cause the glue to lossen and wreck the performance of the stylus. I wouldn't risk it.

To set the VTA the the stylus has to be sitting on an lp on the platter. Only then should the arm be leved using a suitable device such as the one you used. The top of the tonearm is best for this method. Once this is achieved only then can the correct tracking downfore be applied. The hight of the mat and vinyl record must be taken into account when making VTA and tracking downforce adjustments otherwise you end up with incorrect geometry.
