it's still heartbreaking discovering someone new get excited about seeing more Dr. Saunders knowing between S1 and S2 they lost Amy to the very not-great Happy Town so they only got her for three episodes and had to pick the appearances carefully :( I respect that you need to prioritize a steady gig when you get it but they really wasted her on Happy Town while she was sorely missed here.

Years late to this discussion but maybe someone else will stumble across this like I did. I believe Troy was nothing more than a vehicle designed to let viewers know where Veronica and Duncan stood with each other feelings wise. Veronica realizes she’s moved on and Duncan is shown to be the opposite, he hasn’t. Troy also gives them a way to get Veronica to the homecoming so we get those flashbacks and the memorial presentation. Once those episodes are done we don’t need the Troy character anymore. His last episode to me is so incongruent with his previous episodes that I wonder if they made it up at the last moment. Or maybe they were flirting with the idea of making him a serious regular then decided against it and needed an out who knows but to me it seemed very odd the way it was written. I also can’t remember when this aired if it could have conflicted with his Smallville run. It wouldn’t be the first time a character was written off one CW show in a manner inconsistent with their role because they had a larger role on another CW show if the Smallville timing did lineup.

I couldn't disagree more about how the writers handled Meg being nasty to Veronica; that's Veronica's guilty conscience, it would be very weird if Veronica wasn't being hard on herself, that's who she is.

Hannah is so fucking sweet, man... obviously I ship Veronica and Logan, but fuck Hannah deserved better than what she got, right? For her sake, I'd've enjoyed seeing her relationship with Logan (and her presence on the show) lasted much much longer.

I don't know, I don't really mind that Wallace's relationship with that girl came out of nowhere. It shows that there's other things going on in Neptune that we don't see. It's kinda realistic, that we only follow certain stories and Wallace meeting her and them starting to date wasn't really relevant... but of course, Veronica and Wallace being such good friends, we'll see Wallace and his girlfriend hanging out from time to time.

You're not sure if Logan is falling for Hannah? He totally is; how could you not? She's fucking adorable.

1 - Logan is 18 by now, so he's not underage. Even though, yeah, there's an age gap 2 - He has some redemption to do? Why, because he's having sex with Charisma Carpenter's character? I mean, Veronica dumped him... honestly, doesn't it make more sense for him to rebound with meaningless sex than to get into a new relationship?

"Who cares about Meg?" I know... like, I don't like Duncan at all, he's milquetoast at best, and I *do* very much like Meg. (So... I want her to be happy, and apparently that's with Duncan, although I'd like her to upgrade, let's be honest.) Veronica with Duncan? No thank you, hard pass. Her relationship with Logan was actually surprisingly wholesome while it lasted, until the writers started to yank them around for plot purposes. With that out of the way, I think they're really good for each other. Both tough, prickly, protective... outwardly abrasive and unwilling to suffer fools, aren't concerned about what other people think, but they're both also very capable of being vulnerable and romantic.

Yeah, I love the Veronica/Logan relationship so much. He starts off being such an ass to her, and I don't like the "boy picks on a girl because he likes her" trope, but this is much better done than that, I think. Which you get to see a few eps ago, when he reveals WHY he's been mad at Veronica. But also the "I'm mad at Veronica, I'm mad at myself, I'm mad at Lily" moment. The writing is so good, so layered and nuanced in a really satisfying way, so when Veronica and Logan start to kind of bond, you totally get it, and it makes sense. And they have fantastic chemistry.

I love how, like... JTT looks SUPER young for his age, but he's also CLEARLY not a high school student. And you clock it right away and think it's a casting problem, but nope!

You've probably figured this out by now, this comment is in response to a 4-years-old version of you said/thought, but I'm compelled to say it anyway: 1 - You say Keith is a better cop than Lamb. Yes, he's a better DETECTIVE than Lamb, but Lamb is better at the politics of the job. And Sheriff is a political appointment, and catering to the rich is just infinitely more important to staying the sheriff in a rich place like Neptune than solving crimes is. 2 - This show was made in 2004; they didn't cast any of these now-well-known actors as cameos, they cast them as unknowns. Leo from VM is also in New Girl; it's not "Schmidt is Leo in VM?" it's "Leo is also Schmidt from New Girl?" 3 - You are wondering why the cops trusted the tip despite coming from the voice disguiser; well, they found Lily's shoes at Abel Koontz' house.

Your least fav ep so far? That's wild; to me it's the best of the first 4. It's my fav episodic mystery, breaking down the scam, in part because of how involved the scam was with the double-bluff, the actor not realizing it was a scam. And also having VM and Wallace in disguise, then Keith Mars being the DEA agent. Very fun. Plus, as you said, the moment between Logan and VM after she gave him the videos of Lily, un-edited, is a really nice moment that feels earned because of how shitty their relationship has been up to that point. And of course, as you astutely point out, Logan is acting like a shit because his girlfriend was killed; the show's writing is quite nuanced, it's great that he's not just an asshole for no reason or whatever, he's hurting and lashing out; he and Veronica are both kinda going through it, and just because she was ostracized from that friend group and he wasn't doesn't mean he isn't hurting and fucked up too.

I'm 4 years late, but... seems like you misunderstood the quote about how "no is a lot less yes". He was saying that both disappear in the wind. It wasn't a quote about ignoring consent, or something like that. It was more a quote about the impermanence of life.

The ending of this one is epic! Don’t mess with Veronica.

Logan had to watch the tapes because by watching them he could testify as to what is/was on them. If he didn't watch them, he couldn't be called as a witness.

Policing in America is divided into different groups. Police work for individual cities and towns and their jurisdiction does not extend beyond the town or city limits. Sheriff's jurisdiction is for an entire county. So they can also operate inside cities as well as the surrounding countryside. Small towns will often only rely on the county sheriff as they won't have the budget to afford their own police force. Neptune would be what's called an unincorporated town, or a township. As such, rhey would also only use the Sherrif's department. Whether a town remains unincorporated or incorporates largely depends on both size and taxes. One thing I don't like about shows dealing with abuse is how they have someone beat up the abuser. It is shown as a solution to the abuse, but it really isn't. Is it viscerally pleasing to see an abuser get a beat down? Yes, but it is retributive "justice" and not a solution. People abuse others because that abuse makes them feel powerful. Giving an abuser a beatdown will make them feel small and weak, which will just trigger them to go out and abuse their victim again, to regain their sense of power. Logans dad beating his daughters abuser will only cause hin to want to abuse her again. It makes things worse, not better. He was made to feel week, so he has to beat his victim again. It will be a compulsion. If it's not Willow, it will be someone else he can easily abuse I wish shows wouldn't glamorize beating an abuser as a solution to abuse.

"She has a sister?" Yes, in the earlier episode, Logans dad mentioned that his *daughter* was the only one talking to him after all the stuff his wife secretly leaked got out.

As part of the social commentary, in this episode, the money obsessed parents are the villains. Which makes the "cult" leader's the good guys. Things going unresolved was deliberate. In irl, things often go unresolved, so this is a part of making the show reflect real life. The unresolved plot is a device Buffy the Vampire Slayee used quite often, too.

Kool aid is a fruit flavored drink made at home by taking a pitcher of water and adding a flavor packet to it, then stiring until thoroughly mixed. With the types of meds Duncan is taking, as a minor, the decision to take would likely be his parents and not his. But even then, if the decision was for him to go off the meds, the Doctor wouldn't recommend going off them cold turkey. They would set up a prescription with a gradually decreasing dosage until he was off them entirely. Going off them fully and restarting them suddenly can cause some really dramatic behavior issues.

Yes they did do random locker searches in my highschool in Virginia Beach, Virginia only we weren't present. Our locker had combo locks but the administrator had a master key the overroad your lock and opened your locker. We weren't called out of class unless they found something bad in your locker.

The actor who plays Logan has said they never expected Veronica and Logan to be paired together so when the creator of the show came to the to of them when filming episode 3 and said they would be paired together they said "your fucking with us" because they had created such hate between them since the pilot.
