D.Pearce / 3rd lnf. HHC- building 211 Ledward Barracks/ 1979- 1982
I was stationed at Conn from 1976 - 1979 C co. #rd ABC. I see from the video the hanger and barracks were still there when you filmed this. Thanks
pvt busatto here was stationed in ledward back in 01. 1/7 field artillery vet here. i was in building 205 i believe, right by the front gate. the mcdonalds had ann interesting concept, order downstairs, eat upstairs while looking across the street at ledward
Yeah, for me; 1978 to '80, Combat Support Company, 3rd Battalion, 64th Armor...we still had the old M113's and M60 Tanks. Loved the PX, bought my first Professional guitar there. And my first Pro bass (still have it) from a shop in Schwienfurt. Watched some great bands at the Enlisted Club, when we were not in the field playing army...super nostalgic. MOS 19D10, Cavalry Scout. I wanna be young again...lol!
1982-1995: I was there before the McDonalds outside the Ledward gates. Before the Burger King that opened in '86 on Conn and then the Popeyes many years after that (also the KFC they opened down behind the officer's houses next the Schweinfurt Jr. High School by Askren Manor). I remember the taquitos, chimichangas & steak fajitas at the Chi-Chi's restaurant just outside Ledward (Abrams/Officer's Club). Took that shuttle bus back & forth between Ledward & Conn plenty of times. Bowled at the bowling alley out the back of Ledward Barracks & played plenty of basketball and racquet ball at the gym up there too. Watched them build Yorktown Village before it was abandoned. Bagged groceries at the commissary over by Askren Manor *officers tipped shit, it was always the enlisted guys who would tip the most (anybody remember the Dog House just across the street from the Commissary next to the day care center - - they made a mean nachos and had those giant cheese dogs). Visiting the mess hall for Thanksgiving was always a highlight. Bought comic books at the little bookstore on Ledward Barracks and then went down to the Shoppette on the opposite end to pick-up some candy. Ledward also had that sports store in the basement where we'd buy sneakers (about half-way down toward the dental clinic just to the right when you entered Ledward). Also not forgetting about that movie theater just up the block from the PX (watched a lot of movies back there). Played the hell out of the arcade machines which were just outside the barber shop before you went into the PX. Also spent plenty of time at the little library at the back of Ledward / remember the church back there too (had to do some community service there cleaning out their flooded basement). Anyone remember the "beach parties" at the Megadrom? They had that ridiculous bubble machine and spread sand all over the floors. Used to have fun at the Volksfestplatz when they would have the annual Folks Fest. In the Summer we would go up to the Sommerbad (now SILVANA) and swim in the various outdoor pools up there & visit the Animal Park in Deutschhof. I visit every year, each year it seems like more has disappeared. At this point I would say about 60/70% of the place is gone or converted (re: U.S. military infrastructure). Schweinfurt seems like a shell of it's former self. When you walk around downtown Schweinfurt you barely hear German being spoken sometimes (lots of Russian, Turkish and Arabic languages). They also just demolished the two nuclear reactor towers in Grafenrheinfeld (sort of a landmark for Schweinfurt). Too many memories to recall...
OMG it breaks my soul to see that the megadrom is gone, I remember EVERY Saturday night 2-1 Aviation Katterbach came deep in there to party. So many memories there from 1998-2001!!! I will ALWAYS have stories to tell my now granddaughter!!!
Back in the mid 80's we had a nice px and a small bowling alley and of course the motor pool I remember them building a McDonald's right across the street .
I served there between 83'85 as a cav scout we spent more time on the border and just in the woods training but when we got back to the barracks we partied down town.
IT looks awesome and it's awesome there. I Can recommend IT. I have Been there three times with my grandchildren.
Definitely great for kids. My 6 year old loved the kids clubs, and all the pools
@@chrislittleton8015 yes,,even my 6- year -old grandson loved the kids club.
Looks awesome! 😊
Served with A battery 3rd Bat. 7th Arty. Conn Barracks 1969 /71
thank you for the trip down memory lane.
I was there 86-87 Conn Barracks D 3/52 ADA right across from the old hot dog stand. Everyone thought I was crazy standing in line in shorts and a muscle shirt. I miss those $1.50 six packs of Bud light, the monthly splurge on Werner Hefe Flippies, The Subway bar downtown, Scnitzel, Guesthouse German pizza from the Italian ice family and of course Pedro's meat wagon brats and steak sandwiches after a long night partying downtown!!! And Monsters of Rock 1987!!!
Wow! I was at Ledward from Jan 2001 to Sept 2003. I remember doing EIB in the back training area when 9-11 happened and I was an E-3 at the time. I was placed on the back library roof with the M249 loaded and though this is insane. Month later stopped loss came and then deployment. McDonalds, Gas Station, Lidl, RockFabrik bring back so many memories. This was the start of my 20 year Army Career. C 1-26 INF Mechanized
I was C company 9th engineers. Oif era
90-92!! D co 2/15 Infantry. It's a shame to see the buildings gone. So much history there.
I grew up here. It's wild to see it empty
Is the subway disco tech still there?
Ledward barracks 4/4 Cav 87 to 90
So I know I left a comment 3 Years ago when I was 39 but here I am at 42 & still rewatching this video…One thing I wanted to ask that I did not last time was the music that is attached to this video…Who is it & where can I find it if you don’t mind sharing 🙏🏼
I was there 80 to 82! 1st and 10th field artillery!! Any one from this time frame, in 1/10th please comment! I'd be grateful to connect with the old guys I served with!!
I was stationed on Conn from 1995-1996. Bco 3rd FSB "Team Cav" MST, after getting transferred from Kitzingen. Brings back a lot of memories even the hazy ones from many nights at Rock Fabrik. My assistant squad leader used to go to the Adler Club on Ledward he called it the stab and Jab. Thanks for posting.
I was in hhc 1/30 infantry from 80 to 82 good times the city was so beautiful people were very friendly i even met a British woman who was going to school there good times at zefhons and Maggie s. And top ten senfield lake.

so sad...2006-2013 1-91 Cav ..loved that place
We left in 2004 and those balconies were brand-new! Those buildings were totally renovated and gorgeous. :( All good things come to an end.
Was there from 99-02. Askren was gorgeous. Heated towel racks duel sinks, definitely gotta say it was an awesome place to stay. Definitely sad to see it go😔
Awesome! thanks for posting. I was stationed there (Conn) from 91-95 (2/64 Armor). I have so many good memories hanging out in the barracks, gym, walking over to Ledward from Conn to go to the movie theater, taking taxis/trains to downtown Schweinfurt/other cities (amazing we navigated everything with no internet and no cell phones back then!!!). Had so much fun in Schweinfurt...met some locals that made my stay there very special. The Rock Fabrik!... took so much of my $!, but damn, it was worth it! Nothing like saluting the flag @ 6AM with a hangover

You guys were about an hour south of me. I was attached to the 11th ACR in Fulda, 1981-1983, but I visited Ledward Barracks in the fall of 1981 to play in a chess tournament, lol. I won my 3 games on Saturday, went out to some disco and got smashed, and lost my 2 remaining games on Sunday. I was SO HUNG OVER!!! Best time of our lives, and we didn't even know it.
