Nixon is speaking with Daniel Patrick Moynihan, who was a famous social scientist at this time. He was involved in Democratic politics on the domestic policy front. In 1968, they shared some of the same ideas on social policy. The two got together and talked and Nixon asked him to serve in the administration. In the mid 70s he went on to be elected as a Democratic Senator from New York. Unfortunately, he largely abandoned his earlier views and voted a left-liberal line.
