Low-Angle Adventures
Добавлен 8 июн 2024
LAA is a channel for people seeking to maximize their fitness and adventures while balancing those things against family life and a career. Join us as we go on epic ski trips, bike rides, and training adventures while acknowledging that most people still have to go to work on Monday. This is a place for people with limited time and high standards for their performance. And it's for anyone who values getting home over getting extreme. We'll try to capture it all with striking video and solid narrative.
We'll also talk about gear occasionally because it's a huge part of these sports. And, well, I like gear.
We race mountain bikes and ski in the Idaho backcountry. But you'll regularly find us on a chair lift or at a NICA race with our family.

Specialized S-Works Epic Comparison: 2025 Epic 8 vs 2023 Epic Evo 7. Which is the faster XC bike?
We ride two of the fastest cross-country bikes ever made back to back on the trail then discuss their merits in the studio to work out which is faster. Includes weights, geometry comparison, handling and setup differences, and a lot of talk about how Flight Attendendant (electronic damping control) influences the Epic 8's handling. Ample on-trail footage. Lots of dorky details.

Bike Check: 22-Pound Specialized Epic Evo with pedals & cages. Lighter than 2024 S-Works Epic 8

This video is an overview of one of my cross-country race bikes, a 2023 Specialized S-Works Epic Evo. Built specifically for the kind of racing I do and my unique taste, it's lighter than the claimed weight of the 2024 Specialized S-Works Epic 8. That weight can be found in the technical specs section of Specialized's website: www.specialized.com/us/en/s-works-epic-8/p/220875?color=362027-22087...

Fighting for the win on America's hardest and most beautiful XC course - Downieville 2024

Watch some of the quickest master men in the country battle for the win at the Downieville Classic Cross Country race 2024. And appreciate this place for all that it offers - stunning singletrack, clear rivers, and razor-sharp rocks.
Love my Evo 7.
Great review and comparison.
I was surprised at how odd it looked to see you on a "normal" cross bike. Looks like a fun trip?
Love it! Thanks for letting me ride your bike.
now that was informative, great content,
Please look at the orbea oiz
You know some people are faster on drop bars than flat bars even with a single speed....
I do know. I get beat by them regualrly.
Buy a broken car and spend far too much time and money making it whole. Go to CX races that you don't even feel like doing, in a questionable and desperate bid to hold onto some useless late fall fitness.. And then (to paraphrase Dumb and Dumber's Harry Dunne) just when you think you couldn't possibly be any dumber-- you do something like this. And totally redeem yourself. Thanks for a great trip, Josh!
Useless late-fall fitness? No such thing! It might not have given us wins, but It translates perfectly to walking uphill on skis all winter. An activity that's coming soon to a RUclips channel near you.
@@LowAngleAdventures I stand corrected.
I built up my mountain bike also. Went with a cheaper frame but extra wheels (1,200 g. ) no dropper post, found a 190 gram seatpost plus a light weight seat saved a full lb! Very similar bike and similar weight as mine.
Thanks for watching. Be sure to subscribe so you catch our comparison of this bike against an Epic Evo 8 with Flight Attendant. We're working on a bunch of video now and that is among them.
Memorable and inspiring chat, especially from the adjacent cheap seats. Let’s figure out how to spend some time together, sooner!
Haha, “at least you’ll be different…” Nice!
Ottima scelta di componenti complimenti …sono quelli che prediligo…. Come te guardo la funzionalità ed il peso di componenti già presenti sul mercato che non necessitano di esser sostituiti con gli attuali più pesanti ed elettrificati ….
Brother! Thanks for watching. I'm glad there's another weight weenie out there!
Subscribe to the channel. In the next few weeks we will be comparing this bike to the new Epic 8 S-Works.
That was a fun rip. Some of the best gravel isn't gravel at all! Thanks for the ride, Josh.
cant wait to see the up coming videos !
I want to see the footy from the MTB ride on the Revolt the following morning! Thanks for the discussion. Always fun talking bikes and cars and skis with you, Josh.
I'm blushing! But Josh is right, I was looking for anywhere my bike would fit to make that pass. If I was a fitter rider the rest of the race would have gone differently....
Love it!
As a roadie starting to hit the dirt it's great to have some tips like this. I've started picking up on some of the trail queues you mentioned, but sometimes I'm just unsure how to handle what's coming, especially on faster or off camber corners. Im excited to see you continue this series!
Thanks for watching! Watch April- Ride MTB's video on cornering (ruclips.net/video/spbl1WvzlMY/видео.html). They did a very useful tutorial on off-camber stuff, if I remember correctly. Kyle is an excellent teacher and a fantastic rider. And please subscribe if you liked our content and want more. Getting this thing off the ground is a big move and every subscriber helps. Ride safe!
Looking forward to more! I'll be the guy you're waiting on from the top of the ridge.
Great insight !! love learning tips from the pros !
@@davidmaco1 Definitely an amateur, but thanks for watching!
Great bike! Could you tell me please how tall a re you? I am 5'10 with slightly shorter legs and between M and L :( cant decide what size should I get, thanks
I'm 5'8". But I'm all legs so when if I ride a medium it looks sorta dumb with all the seatpost extending out of the frame. I think my inseam is about 33 inches.
@@LowAngleAdventuresthank you :)
Rad. Lets get together and ride your bike and my new Epic 8 back to back and "fight" about the pros and cons. We could bring my regular Epic 7 too.
Thanks for watching! I'd love to ride the new bike. I'm sure it's fantastic and I'm really curious how Flight Attendant changes the experience. As you can probably discern, I'm a major weight weenie. When I'm tuned up to race I'm 127 pounds so I do split hairs over every gram -- probably more than I should. If you've not seen it already, have a look at our Downieville episode when you have 15 minutes. Find it here: ruclips.net/video/x0_FG7I67ms/видео.html Subscribe if this is your thing. Still trying to get this thing off the ground so every subscriber matters. Thanks, Josh Low-Angle Adventures home: www.youtube.com/@LowAngleAdventures
127? Dang. I'm 137-138 at my best. We're going to have to take body measurements at the NICA races. No wonder I can't ever keep up with you 😅
Awesome! I'm looking at lightening up my xc fs and have a similar weighted frame as the epic. I'd be stoked to hit 22lb. This is one of the first actually raced builds I've found on RUclips or that isn't just some sponsor funded bike someone has dumped 10k into.
@ff2e Thanks for watching. It’s been a great bike so far. I tried to make choices with value in mind, hence no electronics. And these frames are readily available in the used market so it seems like duplicating this build could be done on a somewhat reasonable budget, but I won’t say they’re inexpensive. Good luck with your build. What is it? Hope you’ll subscribe!
@@LowAngleAdventures it's a 24 orbea oiz. Subbed👌
@ff2eThat's funny. I came off of a 2021 Orbea Oiz TR (120mm) when I switched to this bike. The Oiz TR was an amazing bike. I was just splitting hairs to get the weight down with this one. My wife is still on a 2021 Oiz TR. I'm sure the newer generation, with the updated geo, is even better. Have fun with that build. It'll be a good one. Thanks for the sub.
what a awesome video thanks so much for sharing. Love the commentary, just requested to follow you on strava, amazing content
@davidmaco1 Thanks for kind words. Dville is an amazing experience. Strava follow accepted. Hit subscribe if you haven't already. It will help. Thanks!
@@LowAngleAdventures not only did I subscribe, I hit notifications, really like your style !!
@@davidmaco1 Thanks. Just couldn't get a video out this week, so look for something early next week.
Is the tire insert a decision out of necessity or caution?
Depends on where I'm riding, I guess. At Downieville it certainly feels like necessity, though I'm unsure how much protection it really offers against many of the puncture types that happen there. In Boise it's just caution. I think I saw a rock here once.
@@LowAngleAdventures Keegan's flat at Leadville took place with an insert. I think the insert allowed him to pedal on that flat for about 5 miles to the next aid. Not fun but seems definitely worth the 50-60 grams. Did you use the regular Aspen or the ST version?
@@ewxlt Regular Aspen. Dual compound. Haven't tried Maxxspeed compound yet.
Mine lets me run lower pressure in the rear for grip but maintain more sidewall stability. Also smooths out some of the hits on lower pressures and is a bit of insurance for the rim and tire.
Real cool video. But one thing that seemed weird to me, you are clearly a bad ass elite rider. But, why did you have to go through so many riders at the start? What class were you racing?
@XterrraRon: Good question. I'm not an elite. Just an amateur. This was the Expert 51-60 category, which starts five minutes after a wave of several combined expert age-group classes, all of which are younger than us. However, as you can see, they're not all faster, so we immediately start catching them and then spend most of the race passing them. The start locations presents a tough logistical challenge for the organizers, but there are ways they could make it better. Thanks for watching! Subscribe if you haven't already.
I’m waiting for the 15 minute video to drop that goes through your Downieville bike set up and all the mental gymnastics then went in to all the choices involved.
Give it a few weeks, friend. It's coming.
Great storytelling, video footage, and editing! Thanks for creating this.
Top notch content and quality. Kudos!
Bravo! We ride, but it's pretty clear we'd have been in those people dropped in the first 6 minutes.
