The council are to blame for the downfall of Stoke on Trent. We lost the pottery industry, as the unions pushed the wages to an unprofitable level, so the businesses moved abroad. The councils should have stepped in to provide initiatives for alternative employment. Instead, we ended up with 1000's more people living on benefits. Nothing is being done about the homeless and the drug addicts. Less police on the ground too. No deterrent for bored teenagers looking for a quick buzz of adrenaline, or some easy cash. Parents are likely at home, smashed out of their skulls, and have no idea where their kids are. We need a system where in order to receive 100% of your benefit, you have to do a minimum of 20 hours a week litter-picking. flower bed digging or graffiti scrubbing etc, things may improve. If you're not willing to do the minimum work, you only get 50% of your benefit. Disabled folks would be exempt, unless suitable work could be assigned. We are suffering at the hands of those that don't mind living in their own filth.
I remember in the 70's and early to mid 80's it was a decent bus station .By the time it was closed ,and replaced a few years ago ,it had become a the drug culture .Graffitti .empty shops etc . A GHETTO of a shit hole
Boot camps are needed Teaching the bug….how to live Black Maria in my day bundle them off to some workers is what we need I can see now why they pulled the bus station down it became a den of lazy layabouts
Dead on.proper Stokie accent " compared to Nottingham and other places I think this town is filthy, and I don't know how the council, have got a cheek to call this a city centre! Because it's nothing but a junked up little town"
Is it fuck! The new bus station is absolutely crap, just as bad and the same as the old one! Except they now have so called " security", who do absolutely fuck all, apart from standing outside smoking! Also to add to the fact, it may be more "modern", if you can call that modern, also to add to the fact, there's pigeons, flying around everywhere, and not too mention the bird shit that's scattered all throughout the station, on the so called seats/ benches!! Stoke on Trent, has, and will always be, an absolute shit hole!!!!
My grandparents lived in a house that was on the corner of Charles Street and Birch Terrace before the bus station was built. Unfortunately, the bus station is a symptom of the industrial decline of the Potteries and the corruption that has been rife in the Labour run council and the rot that set in with Thatcher's government. Since then there has been the commoditisation of education, the lack of opportunities and a complete lack of will to implement any real long term solutions backed with the cash to make them effective. Those older folks remind me of the fab people I grew up knowing. Real people with fascinating stories to tell. I no longer live in Stoke on Trent but as time goes by I do think about happy memories of growing up in the city. My memories of the shambolic school that let me down and some of the less nice people like the gang of skinheads who attacked the small group of friends I was walking home with in the old bus station. I suppose the bad memories always give way to the good.
I grew up in Bucknall in the 70's/80's so we'd be up 'anley (duck) all the time. Stoke like many other places in the UK lost the prosperity and self respect it once had a long time ago with the demise of the potteries, the mines, the Michelin factory, etc. At least in the past there was work, now it's little wonder they head straight for Stoke whenever they want to film somewhere deprived...
why is it when ever there a documentary about stoke they go straight to hanley bus station and interview any1 they can find that as 2 teeth in there head or on drugs
Doesn’t look that bad on this was a right state near the end and now it’s absolutely horrendous, the old one that is never been in the new one and never will, always remember going the shop across from the cafe get a drink then waiting for my bus and have at least 1 person ask for change for the bus and someone if not the same person off their tree screaming and shouting honestly surprised they haven’t knocked the old one down yet, only thing I can guess is that it’s because of the shops left or being a listed building, place is rotting more than some teeth in Stoke and that saying something
Shocking what has happened to Stoke over the last 30 years. Government/Council ripped the heart out of this city. Immigration has played a big part to in it's demise.
l used to work in Stoke on Trent place called Come n save next to Bevans music shop in the late eighties in Longton the people are very nice but the place needs regeneration l believe he passed away Mr Ellis bevan a few years back ...nice guy l am from manchester 😊
As a student at Keele University in the early 1990s, I took the National Express to Gatwick Airport twice at midnight, an eerie experience! Never again. Good that a new station has been built! Long overdue!

brings back memories from early 90's when used to go to Morley's Bakehouse then cut through to go to Shipley's to play pool
Great cafes in the bus station when I visited Hanley back in the day gone down hill since
It's definitely gone downhill recently, the state of what's left of it.
My dad worked here on the buses for many many years.
I wonder what he thinks of it now. What a state.
Does anyone know (Scribbler09) the xbox gamer? He's often seen cruising round Bus station.
A great piece of Hanley history ❤
Those two lads were definitely smack heads and are probably dead now
5:32 My mate Darren robbed him in 2000 what a looser lol
Hanley is honestly the worst part of Stoke-on-Trent. The only genuinely nice part of Stoke-on-Trent is Alsager.
One of the guys was drugged up. Horrible. (4:47)

This bus station was a bin from the moment it was built.

Depressing grim place
Certainly was Julie. I used that bus station many times. What a hole.
Now you can see why they closed it and built a new bus station.
Alton towers
Poor old Hanley Bus Station. Like something from a bygone era now...
I use to catch the bus to work at 9 no issues and at back again at night around 8ish just drunks and druggies that never really did anything.
Except piss up the walls
Ay the old hanley bus station isn’t all abandoned now
Yes some life in the old place thankfully
why is it when ever there a documentary about stoke they go straight to hanley bus station and interview any1 they can find that as 2 teeth in there head or on drugs
Because they’re the only people in Stoke-on-Trent...
Or even one tooth would be lucky
Stoke has always been ma home but it’s gone to shit all the immigration and knife crime and ruined it for me
Yes it's all shite, glad I got out of the hole nearly 20 years ago

Drug addicts, homeless people , no jobs and no future.
