ForGod's sake man, all the milimeter stuff made my head hurt! Then, after watching you cut wood with a hand saw 1800's-style, I had to go lay down!
Hahaha, I hope you recovered well 📏🤣 I‘m gonna move to the States soon and I already can’t get out of bed, just thinking about imperial measurements 😅🇺🇸🦅
The only thing that really pisses me off is that you're covering up all that beautiful wiring with a tank and seat! 😅 I really like the idea of actually writing down the length to strip the wire, I will totally do that before my next wiring job!
Hahaha hopefully you're not too mad :D
@@MotoWrenchers Haha! I will get over it once I see the finished bike. 😉
Viel Erfolg!
Hi Joshua, how much time did you actually invest from the first attempt until you felt you could do it?
It's hard to tell with all the recording I did. But when I went through the course, I practiced about two weeks every day. After that I felt pretty comfortable.
Richtig nice!
A 30-minute bouquet of multicolored information! Wow!👍🏻
Thank you so much for the flowers!
Great Video Mr. Wire Servant....😊

The whole material looks so sleek!👌🏻
Thanks. It made the process very enjoyable
Excellent description ..you really explained it well down to the size cable you use and connectors. Well done !!
Thanks mate!
Great video Joshua! The Techflex website has a huge array of options - what diameters did you use? 👍🏻
Hi Francis! Yeah, they have a lot to choose from. I went with one that's called Tight Weave and I'd suggest to get the three smallest sizes they offer. That's 3,2 & 6,4 & 7,9 mm. I got 12,4 mm instead of 7,9 but that was way too big for my setup. It definitely depends a bit on the wires sizes you choose and how many wires you run in one sleeve but from my experience I'd say the three smallest sizes are perfect for a motorcycle wiring harness. I made a video about all of the supplies and tools I used to wire up the BMW in case you want to check out the rest: ruclips.net/video/EMMpw8kiHWY/видео.htmlsi=3gHVRSWvT43FXlwT Hope your're having a great day, Servus!
Apart from the single wire handlebar set up, would you bother with a m-unit again?
That's a very good question. I debated that myself. I think in the end, yes. At some point in the process I questioned, if it's actually worth the money. I feel like it did save me a lot of hassle, made the process quite easy, and allowed me to make a lean wiring harness. It's a great product but I also noticed, that it's definitely not as essential as I thought it would be.
12 exciting and helpful minutes with a feast for the eyes of tools and detailed solutions! Thank you very much.👏🏻
Hi Michael, Thank you very much for your kind words. I'm happy you like it :)
Great tips and tricks to achieve a professional result 👌🏼
Hi Andy, thank you very much!
Tell me you’re a perfectionist without telling me you’re a perfectionist haha No but in all honesty, having the same crimp and heat shrink lengths probably pays of in the end! That kind of attention to detail should have gotten you in the bike shed show!!
Hahaha...I might have slight tendencies of perfectionism, I guess :D
Brilliant!
Thanks mate!
Hi there, I'm really enjoying your work. I've just purchased a 1977 BMW R75/7. It runs and has been repainted with minor upgrades. I'm going to be creating a Cafe Racer with it. Would you be willing to communicate with me if/when I have questions? I'm a Canadian living in the US for now. I can't wait to start this project.
Hi Jason, that's awesome bro! I'm absolutely willing to help you along project wherever I can. I had so many people helping me out with this build, which made a huge difference. Where in the US do you live now? I'll be moving to the States as well soon, if everything goes as planned. Which style are you going for with the R75?
In my case, i used the spring instead of a spacer that I cut from the main spring. I don't know if it was a good idea though.
Oh nice! Sounds like a good idea if you don’t have a lathe accessible. I’m not sure if any of these fork shortening procedures are a good idea…but it just looks better 😂
Duuude im so glad I found your channel! Videos are on point and shows everything that I want to learn how to do! Keep up the awesome work!
Hey man, I appreciate that!! Great to have you along. Hope you’re having a great day, Romario.

Hey man, you're very welcome!!
You've really gone down the wiring rabbit hole! 😅 Nice to see your collection!
Yes...one thing led to the next. Now I guess I need to build the next bike so the collection pays off 😂
@@MotoWrenchers You sure do! Already looking forward to that!
@HeavyMetalParkingSpot is just the question…what? :) I have a few projects in mind.
@@MotoWrenchers I know! There are so many possibilities? What are you thinking? The same style?
@HeavyMetalParkingSpot yeah, so many interesting possibilities. One idea is to do a cafe racer style but with an interesting base. We’ll see :D
Nice video, but I have something to add, tinning wires for screw terminals (like you did in the switches) is not a good idea, the solder can "flow" and loosen the connection, best practice is to use ferrules on the end of the wires.
100% ferrules work amazingly
That is a great tip! Someone told me I should tin them but I'm always on the hunt for better solutions. What does "the solder can flow" mean? Is there a special pair of crimping pliers for ferrules for these tiny wires? Thanks for the tip, I really appreciate it!
Thanks buddy! I guess I need to do some research on how to crimp them :) And apparently, I can toss the soldering station now 😂
@@MotoWrenchers Hi, here is some more info for you: Phoenix Contact has a good write up about it called "The problems with tinning wires" Also IPC says that: IPC-J-STD-001 Rev E, page 13, section 5.1.3, “Stranded wire shall not [D1, D2, D3] be tinned when:” * Wires will be used in crimp terminations * Wires will be used in threaded fasteners * Wires will be used in forming mesh splices If you want some real world examples you can look around 3d printing forums and subreddits (it's a common fault there) As for ferrules, you can find them in all different sizes for specific wire cross-sections, they do need "special" crimpers but they are the cheapest ones (especially compared to those deustch ones). Also there are connectors called "Pin terminals" made for this purpose
@filipek5230 yo, this is awesome!! Thank you so much! 🙌🙏

Ohm's law is the only law I'm following! 🤘 This is super information and you're able to deliver it very clearly! Great job!
I noticed when watching your exhaust video 😂 Thanks for the feedback my friend!
@@MotoWrenchers Haha, oops! 😇 Maybe you have said this somewhere, but where do you get your wires? Have you been able to find multi-coloured (like white/blue, yellow/green) at a decent price anywhere?
@HeavyMetalParkingSpot I got all my wires from a German shop called Kabelknecht.de They have all sizes and unlimited color combinations. But I don’t know how they handle international shipping.
I just released a video talking about every single part I used to wire up the BMW :)
@@MotoWrenchers Checked them out and they had a huge collection of wires! Seems like they ship internationally as well, might be worth it even considering the shipping. Thanks for the tips!
Moin! Sehr gerne.
Thanks for the informative video, For wire and terminal selection I know the concept of load(amperage) but the dependency on length is new to me.
Thank you for your comment my friend! I'm happy if it helps. Hope you're having a great day!
Very informative, Josh. I wish I had you as our physics teacher all those years ago😂; theory into real time practice/application makes for far better understanding in my opinion. Well done sir. 👍👍👍👍🤓🤘
Hello my friend! Thank you very much. I agree, that's how kids should learn as well. I think if you'd offer those kids who are interested in it, to build a custom bike, they'd learn so much more than from regular classes.
Great job! You made a confusing (and overlooked!), topic understandable 👏👏👏
Hi Francis, thanks a lot! This topic stressed me out a lot before I understood it. I didn’t want to set the whole bike on fire. But once you know how it works it’s actually quite simple.
I can't believe the amount of information you managed to deliver in those 30 minutes! Awesome! I need to get myself a big set of coloured pencils! Seeing you use those to draw that wiring diagram made me excited to sit down and make a diagram for something! 😅
Hello my friend! Thank you so much for your kind feedback. Having the colored pencils is already job half done :D
Invaluable! Many thanks!!
Thank you my friend! Happy if it helps :)
Hello! I have a same model. Do you also need to shorten the spring by 30mm?
I haven’t done that (yet). I saw videos where people shortened the springs. I’ll see how it works out when I rebuild the forks and have oil in them. They do close at the moment, so I hope it works without having to shorten them but I need to try that out once I have all the parts back from the powder coater. Also, need to see how much less oil it takes. I’ll probably make an update video down the line. Have a great one!!
@@MotoWrenchers thanks for the answer. Good videos!
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback 🙏
I've just watched all of your wiring videos and I am more than impressed with your ability to communicate what you know and not be boring in doing so! Subscribed, saved, looking forward to the rest of the project.
Hi Champ! Thank you very much for the kind feedback. I’m happy you enjoyed them and I’m excited to have you as part of the community. I think it helped that I started with absolutely 0 knowledge, so I noticed all of the questions one might have in the beginning that after a while become second nature and might get overlooked but are crucial for a good understanding. Have a wonderful day! Ps: are you working on any project at the moment?
When it come to fuses, they should protect the cable in case of a short or overheating, so the fuse should always be as close to your battery terminal as possible. In critical installs like marine applications, we often chose a battery terminal with the fuse holder built into it. This is the best option. You should NOT put the fuse on the M.unit end of the cable.
Hey man, Thanks for the insights! I appreciate that. Regarding the fuse on the M.Unit, Motogadget specifies that there needs to be an inline fuse between the battery and the BAT terminal of the M.Unit. There is a drawing on page 22 of the manual, in case you want to check it out. Have a great day, my friend!
Ok here you go RUclipsrs. A German guy speaking English clearly with solid camera skills and excellent communication skills. He’s much better than most Americans. This guy is definitely made in Germany, ha! Bravo Sir Josh. I’ll be rewatching all your videos when I pull my R80 out of storage.
Hi Robert! Thank you so much for your kind words. Definitely made my day! Tell me more about your plans for the R80.
@@MotoWrenchers Hi Josh, I bought a 1978 R80 a few years back then it got sidelined because of Covid. I'm currently finishing a Yamaha xs650 cafe project with basically Motogadget products everywhere. It's ok, the kids didn't want to go to college anyway, lol! Not sure, if I'll start the R80 or not. It runs but need a full restoration. It's been very helpful watching your videos related to Motogadget. Unfortunately I find their instructions difficult to follow but understand as I'm married to someone who's first language is not English. You're doing a great job. (Ancestry says I'm 27% German, no wonder I'm a fan of German products, design etc.)
Ah nice, I hear it's a great year ;) Would love to see a few pictures of your XS650 project. Are you Instagram? I'm happy that the videos are of help.
The most exciting thing about your videos for me is the process you go through with high standards, commitment and the courage to fail in order to perfect your piece of jewelry! Respect!🍻
Thank you my friend! It was so important to me to build a bike that I can be proud of in the end. Now that we're getting close to finishing the build, I'm happy I sticked with it.
All your videos give me the courage to deal with things that I have been putting off for a long time.... Thanks Joshua!👍🏻
You absolutely have it in you to accomplish whatever you set out to do. What are those projects for you at the moment?
@@MotoWrenchersYou're absolutely right Joshua. But all beginnings are difficult..... so the saying goes. I mean that in general for everything I do....
Crass! This looks like "Venom".....😊

Cool interview, Joshua! Did you prepare for it, or did it come from the "belly"? It's always nice to see how happy it makes people to create a project like this with their own hands..... Where there's a will, there's always a way!
I just went with the flow. Anthony was a huge inspiration in my own journey. It was an absolute pleasure to get to know him in person. And I do agree...the amount of great bikes at the show was crazy! So many talented people building amazing bikes in their sheds.
Thank you for always creating a platform with your videos to enable such an exchange! 👍🏻
Absolutely. Just trying to create the resources I wish I had, when I didn't know how to start.
Super cool if you have someone who can handle "fir trees" and "anything that doesn't pay rent" safely and in compliance with TÜV...😂😂.
"In compliance with TÜV" is my worst nightmare 😂

@@MotoWrenchers I guess you're right! It's just comforting know that the wiring looks good as well. 😀
Hi Joshua, it's always great to see how much pioneering spirit you put into such projects.... 🙏🏻👍🏻👏🏻 Do you happen to know whether this material can withstand brake fluid in the long term?
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words. I don't think that PLA could withstand brake fluid long term but I might be wrong. I definitely wanted to be on the safe side, so I built the brake fluid reservoir bracket from metal.
