We have three seasons filmed and on the Far Bank RUclips channel, so if you haven't seen all 18 episodes, check those out. If you have and are still looking for more, you might have to wait a while as we don't have season 4 filmed yet. If we film that next summer, then the series wouldn't be available until the following spring. I will be uploading season 2 and 3 to my channel here in the next couple of weeks😄

Now fly fish once a year at Meon Springs in Hampshire with a couple of ex work colleagues who have retired. They are instructing me and loan me some gear. I'm at the point that I want to buy my own gear, not too expensive and fly fish 3 or 4 times a year. I've been looking at various You Tube channels but your videos are by far the best.. Thanks.

I hope all goes well in your fly fishing career. I haven't fished Meon, but have fished a number of lakes and rivers in Hampshire - very pretty part of the world! If you are looking for a starter kit for lake fishing, I'd suggest going with a 6wt rod, around 9' 6" in length. You won't go far wrong with that size of an outfit. Best of luck with it all.

      Thanks for checking this video out and for your good questions. Yes, the difference between the MOW and replacement tips is that the MOW tips are level while the replacement tips have a nice front taper. You can use level tippet material on either, but generally I use a tapered leader on floating and intermediate tips, and short, level tippet on the faster sinking ones. Hope that helps :)

    When I make a switch or a single spey cast, the loop looks tight at the beginning, then the leader and the fly are pulled out of water vertically,flies high,and do not form a steady loop once the leader leaves the water surface, the loop just become open , unrolls quickly ,and the upper leg is a little curve,but get some distance like 60/70ft and unrolls straightly. I have known about my creeping and over power problems.And I notice that the leader should like a long tail,flies follow the head straightly .Using 5wt 9ft singlehanded rod, Rio scandi short 210grs, 9ft or 13ft 4X mono leader with size 12 dry fly. So is this phenomenon called tailing loop or blowing anchor? I want to fix these problems,hope for some direction,thank you.

    • @simongawesworth7812
      @simongawesworth7812 6 месяцев назад

      Tough to accurately call out which problem it is without seeing it. I don't think it is a blown anchor as you are unlikely to get that kind of distance with a blown anchor. It also doesn't sound much like a tailing loop either. A tailing loop is where the top half of the loop comes up from below the bottom half of the loop as it is unrolling. The lines cross and you can visibly see the two halves of the loop hitting each other. It doesn't sound like this is the problem either. The comment you make about the upper leg having a little curve in it would lead me to think it is simply that your forward acceleration is not smooth enough.

    I have learned some kind of spey cast from your videos for few months,spey cast some distance,but caught some issues.When I do single spey,switch cast or spiral spey,the achor lands curvingly,not a bloody L,but curve,and the upper leg of the loop is curve too,doesn't get straight. D loop is dynamic,forward stroke is also compact and powerful,what's the problem? If needed,I can upload my pratice video.Thanks a lot.

    • @simongawesworth7812
      @simongawesworth7812 7 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching the video, and for your question. It sounds like you have too steep and/or too deep a dip with your rod tip when making the D-loop stroke. The flatter and shallower your rod tip travels during this, the lighter the line will land, and the straighter the anchor will be. Hope that helps a bit...

      So sorry about the delay in replying to you, but somehow I missed your comment. That's a great question, but simply, the Perfection loop is smaller, neater, and presents the loop far nicer than the double surgeon knot. It's only downside is its breaking strength - about 50% of the tensile strength of the material. This means it is totally fine, and by far the best choice, in thick leader butts of tapered leaders (around 40lb in strength), but if you use a level tippet of, say 4X/7lb, it is too weak. Glad you enjoyed it - thanks for commenting 😄

    This video is great Simon for learning. Just one question. Once I get my 6wt rod with its WF 6 line how do I have to imagine the scenery? Like and underloaded or an overloaded?🤔

      It all depends on how much line you have out. At a short range it will be pretty underloaded, but if the WF has a long head - say 45ft or more, it would technically be overloading the rod...

    Great video, thank you Simon. I guess that the flip is equal to now days fast action rods. As as i know, some rod manufacturers just changed the rating if rod blank to make it a fast action. E.g. a 5 wt blank sold as a 4 or 3 wt fast action. This totaly fits the flip outfit.

      Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. That would indeed be the "flip" outfit!

    Watching you with a spinning rod seemed so off character that it kinda weirded me out. 🥴

    It's standing in a river, waving a $1000 dollar carbon stick, $500 reel, with a $120 length of plastic, often in rain, in $850 dollar waders, hoping to catch a fish, that often isn't feeding. It's a hobby for the insane.😃😃😄😄

    There is a lifehack for that )) You can try to start casting between trees (looking on them) and then do a back cast and the presentation. TO THE BACK. ))

      No doubt that that's a great way for fishing in those situations, but not so good for practicing this exercise :)

    The reason you're struggling to describe precision in the opening segment of your video is because you're saying accuracy. Two different things. /edit Text doesn't carry tone and that my comment may seem critical. Actually, I found this video to be excellent and wished to be helpful in return.... 😅

    Great idea! The problem is - I want to fish, when I'm on the water. Not training ))))

      That is what retirement is for! Now that I'm in my mid-seventies and can no longer really do endurance sports, casting is one of the few things I can get better at. I'm even trying to learn Spey casting. And since I'm after Atlantic salmon, which are few and far between, I really do go out with the objective of practicing. If a fish happens to get in the way, so much the better!

    Nice video. I've never mentioned accuracy boost by that stance. I have to try it on the water )) Thank you.
