A How-It's-Made style video detailing the gold mining process done at the KL Gold Macassa site. This video was produced by Joe McInnis, a grade 10 student from KLDCS working in part with the town of Kirkland Lake for the town's 100th anniversary.
I was born in Kirkland Lake in 1948, my father worked at Lake short mine, then it closed in 1958 we moved to Bancroft where they had homes just built for the miners, Faraday uranium mine ......wonderful memories.
I hung around with Wayne Hirn and Carl Duff, Dickys Duff young brother.
My father worked at Lake Short mines in the 40s 50s, I went to St. Jerome catholic school then the mines closed and we moved to Bancroft, dad worked at Faraday uranium mines .. they had built homes for the miners, we lived on Faraday Heights and Ob Bow lake., I missed Kirkland Lake.
ive felt lost since i was taken from kirkland lake i went to central public i miss everything i hate my life in barrie
i wish i could live back home my dad moved us away when i was 11 back in 2000 i miss it so bad havent felt like home since

I loved hearing your story Dolores - so interesting. Loved hearing about my old home town too.
That was awesome! Jack Tough is my Great Grandfather, and Bob, George and Tom Tough where my Great Uncles. My Grandfather Art Tough proudly displayed the photo of Harry Oakes, his Father and Uncles in his home and told us as kids how they walked for miles in snow shoes and lived in a tent in -50 degree weather all to mine gold. The Tough Boys make a family real proud. My brother and I will have to make a trip to Kirkland Lake. We would love a tour!
