I have a strong interest in the time frame of 1900 to 1945--all things Pre War. Love to collect, restore and scratch build or kit-bash std gauge in the tinplate fashion. 99% of the time--what ever you see on the layout will be time related to the P:re War trains and that era.

From across that same big pond I enjoyed this video and the personal history and your memories of these JEP and Hornby trains. I have some myself and recognize post war Hornby motors do indeed draw a lot of current. The Hornby motors are not the best quality (side plates of the frame are attached with cheap tab and slot connections, this soon can cause play and the motor then runs crooked, sometimes even so that it sticks against the field magnets. You can also take the motor only a few times apart, as the tabs brake loose). JEP's are always smooth runners.
Shoee....Doggy, Merry Christmas and the Happiest Ever New Year.
Where did you get the 5 rail track? I would love to be able run my STD gauge more often.
I made the 5 rail--Gargraves makes 5 rail but you have to bend your own curves.
Your films are always a treat to view. Interesting and enjoyable. Thank You 👍🎄 p.s. I also graduated in '68...it was another world. 😃
Awesome story, great looking Europeans!
Hope you enjoyed your trip to Chicago on Amtrak. Amtrak was my employer for just shy of 35 years. Will you speak again on your dual gauge track. Is there anyone that manufacturers 5 rail tubular track? I enjoy your videos and story’s Thank you Merry Christmas 🎄 Alfred
Our trip up and back was great--my brother retired from the UP, he did Metro up in Chicago--he started out as freight with the C&NW which the UP bought. No--there is no one who makes or sells 5 rail tinplate track but Gar-graves makes 5 rail but you have to bend it to get the curve you want. I'll try to put together a short video on it---it's easy to do. The hard thing now is to find 0 gauge ties---USA track sold the ties to build 5 rail but now that source has dried up and they don't have any.
Really fun running O pulling standard. Next, get that 256E on the track, it's an honorary standard gauge engine (others have done the conversion)
LOL---I was kind of hopping you'd do one first and I'd copy it.----I bought the 256 with that idea in mind.
Awesome looking 251's, perfectly paired with the Standard freight cars. I get loose lights inside passenger cars all the time. Thanks for the video!
Fantastic display on your layout!!! Great vid!!! Keep doing more of this subject. Very rare up here in the Pacific Northwest!!
These 251's are great looking locomotives. Love the Dutch Cleanser boxcar. Have a good time at the Christmas market! (any trainhunting on the market, or just christmas stuff? )
No train hunting, just Christmas and German food. One .must give the Hun his do. I'm northbound right now on the train. I may have to do a small video on my Postwar JEP and French Hornby one of these days.
Postwar JEP and Hornby sounds good, looking forward to that 👍
Interesting train operation! You have to stay alert with 2 trains on the outer track, especially that early in the morning! 😴
That Standard 390 is a beautiful machine. SHOEE---DOGGY!
Very cool run session, especially that Zephyr! I'm partial to O Gauge. 😉
I love crazy.
Great trains Steven !!
Some very cool stuff, Steve, thanks for showing. Merry Christmas.😊
I can definitely relate to the nostalgia of maintaining and running these old trains. Who owned it, why and how did I end up with it? Another cool consist, thanks for the video! BTW- I have a couple of those 10th Mountain Division Ulsters. 😎👍
If I remember right---they had 3 different styles.
I always enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.
Your Gods curator of this magical layout and zills of attendant stuff. You are one happy geyser and you exude enthusiasm . I am Welsh , 72 and eternally greatfull to Americans who helped us stave off the Hun . Hopefully the so called polititians wont get us batting down Nukes . Thanks and regards to you and your kin. Dave
The times we live in now remind me to much of the early 1930's.
Very nice! It was cold here in Toledo, also. 18 was about the high Thursday and it was 13, when I woke-up at 7:30, this morning. Blah! I really like your multiple gauges, so you can run all of the great trains, from years gone by. I enjoy the trains that you're running in this video. They are just so classic. My only pre-war is a 1931 Winner set and it runs like a top. Because of the season, I've put off most of the work on my layout, although I will still make a video or two. An excellent video, as always.
Very nice! Were these American outline Marklin trains exported back than or had Marklin a factory in America?
Good morning---They would have been made in the German State and exported. I believe, like Bing, Marklin at a later date put stand gauge trucks on the cars as stand gauge by the 20's was the main large gauge train in the States--std gauge killed 1 gauge in America after the Great War.
Magnificent sight, beautiful runner. I did notice that my märklin pre WWI LNWR gauge I with the märklin drop couplers does mate with the Ives with a bit of judicious alignment. It's funny, your great opening shot: that camera angle really shows off how superbly proportioned a 402 is. I actually consider the 402 with its consist as being much nicer than the much vaunted state set, even though I know you're a freight man at heart :)
Well, I have 1 402 and two 408's. The 408 in green with the green cars is one of my favorites. But as all great things--it looks grand pulling freight🙂🙂.
That there Marklin tis a real Eye Poper.
where do you get 5 rail track?
I made it.
Merry Christmas I enjoy your videos
@MartinSBrown-tp9ji Merry Christmas to you Marty.
I love your comments as well as I love "1" gauge !
Good morning from viva Las Vegas! Sounds like you've had a busy travel schedule too. Awesome consist, thanks for the video. 😉👍
I've been there---What happens in Vegas should stay in Vegas. LOL
Much to enjoy , thanks !
I learn from your excellent knowledge of early '2' gauge (Approx.) "Standard Gauge." And to see them running perfectly on your nice layout is in a thrill !
The way you fabricate those parts looks like it came fresh from the factory, I really admire your creativity that's talent!
Thank you.
Santa is NOT the reason for the season and is a creature of man’s imagination via Thomas Nast and others. The incarnation of God into the world (ie. Emmanuel) to die for man’s sins is the reason for the season. You have some nice, old toys which we really appreciate you sharing with us. Don’t plan on taking any of them with you. You may have heard “you can’t take it with you”. Merry Christmas 🎅
I have yet to find a tinplater who did not wish to run his train at breakneck speed. What causes that? Tinplate runs go almost as fast as slot cars, and that means they are hard to see! The freight train with 300 series frt. cars was run at a very enjoyable moderate speed. I really thought your train room was great with many very interesting trains !!
The breakneck speed stems from our---at least mine--- childhood---from the day's of Lincoln logs across the track and Indian's on top---what a thrill it was to see that steam engine running wide open and sending the logs and Indian's into the air. In my case, the layout is about 4 feet off the floor------at 74 and having gained some common sense and still an idiot in other things----the thought of having---The Wreck of the Old 97--- on my layout is this Old Man's nightmare ----while a young boy's dream it, it is not an Old Man's dream with trains that have survived near on 100 years with young boys bent on their destruction along the way.
Where are you at in central il? I am too. Great layout
Wow! So cool! I just saw your channel on my feed and subscribed. I always enjoy seeing the old, pre-war Lionel running. The older Lionel is fascinating and the mix of Standard and O gauge is a real nice set-up. Your information about the trains and the years that they were produced, is a nice touch. My oldest Lionel is a 1931 Winner set and it still runs like a top. It is basically an on/off switch and has just takes-off, but it goes around my wide curves, with no problem. I like the design of your layout, as it is similar to mine, as far as it being an L. It is the way a classic Lionel layout should be. Mine is a 24x18 L, with three mains and mostly post-war Lionel and AMT passenger cars, along with some Marx. I like the modern freight cars, though, as they actually roll easily and don't require so much amperage to run. I like running my trains like I did when I was a kid and the way I designed the set-up accommodates that perfectly. It is still a work-in-progress, but the mains are in service, so I can enjoy running, while I work on the layout.. If you'd like, tap on the cat and it will take you to my channel, Chooch's Trains. The videos will take you through the evolution of the layout, with all of the updates in its design. I'll be catching-up with all of your videos, during the next few weeks and it should be fun. An excellent video, for sure.
Good video, like!!!
You must live near me in Sangamon County. The rain and wind the past few days made it a perfect time to stay inside and play with our trains.
Some where in the People's Country of Menard.
Finally I see a layout with original old Lionel equipment ! Nice layout too, and thanks for giving the old numbers before 1926 when the Italian influence took over.
Well, about all they did was machine great die casting molds for the Hudson, for less money---during the depression. Lets face it---they had been doing that type of work for years, and the market was changing to something more realistic ---it wasn't until Japan made brass that you saw something to equal it.
Cool old trains and rolling stock. Makes me wish I had more room. Awesome run session!
Fun video !
Nice analysis. If you posted a photo of the 1923 catalog you'll see the set with the twin motor brass #54 and all the late 10 series freights. An impressive set!
Thanks for sharing this...gives me more ideas than I have time! 😂
500 series cars are my favorite. Thanks for sharing 👍
Nothing beats the sound of metal wheels on metal tracks! Great running session.
Awesome tractive effort by that engine. 💯
Amazing looking coach conversion. 😎👍
It's nice to see everything ruining so well.
One wheel drive? Go ahead and fasten the other side!
LOL--Two wheel drive , but the unit is very light.
Job well done...👍👍👍
I think it has become absolutely great and it runs beautifully. A nice addition to the fleet! Looking forward to follow your next project, your videos are very inspiring and interesting. Thanks for sharing!
Just a reminder to all the puller users I encounter. A little oil on the threads makes the tool work more efficiently and last longer with less effort. Great video. I never thought to put a pin in a puller like that.
