    What happens if you don’t have equal pressure in your pump and your tank when you start the airflow to the tank?

    • @jmarkreed
      @jmarkreed 16 дней назад

      If you have an open system (i.e. no check valve to hold the pressure back from your tank) and your tank is full of high pressure, all that pressure from your tank will be forced back to the pump. The pump would then have to hold up against that massive pressure and would likely fail and you could get hurt. Not a pretty sight. Don't go there.

    This video is now a year old. So now that you've had some time using both units, what's been your experience with reliability and longevity on each of them? There's a guy selling a portable gx unit that he converted to taking a Makita 18v lx battery to power it. Because I know putting extra pull on my alternator on my truck, I'm not going to hook the compressor to my car battery. So I like the idea of using a portable, rechargeable, replacable batter, or plugging it into a 110v outlet... Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!

      Thanks for the question. Both units are currently doing well, but I take great care of them. I'm still happy with both and am using them appropriately for their intended purpose- YH for filling tanks, and the GX for filling individual guns. I like the idea of using the Makita battery. Wonder how long it would last with a full charge? Thanks for watching!

      @jmarkreed 2 месяца назад

      Thanks. I actually use a good Fluke 62 Max Industrial Infrared Thermometer gun as well as the internal temperature gauge (digital) and they essentially read the same when I'm measuring the hottest part of the metal. I'm sure neither are an exact measurement, but I bet they are pretty good reflection of the actual high temps. Obviously, the main point is to keep it as low as possible and never let it get out of control. Thanks for watching!

      @jackmclane1826 2 месяца назад

      @@jmarkreed I'm sorry, I didn't mean to mock your tools. But just given the physical principle of measurements no IR thermometer can properly measure on bare metal. And they all have problems focussing on a small piece. How did you use the internal thermometer? By theory the air must be A LOT hotter than this. I'll try my own measurements soon! ;)

    Another thing many people do not understand is “duty cycle” and how it relates to whatever electric tool they are using. Most people I say the words “duty cycle” to don’t know what it refers to at all. Compressors especially will fail due to overheating , I can just imagine how sensitive those 4500 psi compressors must be. The smaller sized ones I mean. Your videos are most helped, I think this is the third one I’ve watched at this point.

  • @noonespecific9463

    People don’t realize how dangerous compressed air can be, especially at the pressures relating to the pcp guns. I just bought a new rifle with 2 new tanks that I would like to keep moisture and/or contaminants out of. I also purchased a small compressor that has a tiny in line filter , doesn’t look like it’s enough, my tanks were filled once by the place I bought it from when they tested it. It still contains what’s left of that first charging. I don’t understand these guns and tanks yet , but if it’s possible I think I’m going to release the remaining air from the tanks and pull a vacuum on them and hold,it long enough to evaporate any moisture present and start over with a leased nitrogen tank or something. I already lease oxygen and acetylene tanks for my work, so adding something else shouldn’t be a problem. There are probably inert gas choices, lol, I know nothing about these guns I have a feeling this is going to be more expensive than I expected. Most things like this normally are though🤣. Would be interested in your opinion, will sub your channel also.

      Wow. What a great question. I'm not going to have a great answer for you since I don't recall at this point, but know that I always consider costs and do extensive research before I buy anything. Know also that anyone getting into PCP airguns is going to spend far more than they think. It's really an addictive hobby/passion that lends itself to getting a lot of stuff. Nevertheless, most don't mind opening their wallets to buy a ton of fun. Ultimately, that's what it's about. Over time, the cost of shooting airguns will probably be less than powder burners considering the differential in ammo cost, but the initial costs will likely be much greater, especially for higher-end guns and air compressor setups.

    • @jmarkreed
      @jmarkreed 5 месяцев назад

      Although your tank may have a "built-in" pressure gauge, depending on the quality of your tank, it may or may not be very accurate. Having a separate dedicated gauge is not a bad idea. At a minimum, you can compare gauges to see if they read the same or not. Dealing with extremely high pressure, it's a good idea to be as accurate as possible. It's just another layer of safety. • @jmarkreed
      @jmarkreed 5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching. I use the "gold filter" that many others use. I ordered mine through Amazon. It has molecular sieve to get the water vapor out before it gets to your tank. I also use a water/oil separator filter before the "gold filter" to get most of the condensed water out. You will probably find some debate about using something like that, but I live in a high humidity area and can see the benefits when I open it during the filling process. A decent amount of water comes out. I don't think it hurts to have it.

    Yes, i have a question. Why do i need to let the pressure build before opening the tank? Why can’t i have the tank open already?

    • @jmarkreed
      @jmarkreed 6 месяцев назад

      Because unless the tank is completely empty, it would have a much higher pressure than the compressor at start up. You would essentially have a massive pressure gradient from the tank to the compressor and it would bleed back and destroy the compressor. Waiting on the fill line to reach the same pressure of the tank prevents the pressure gradient. Once you open the tank valve, the pressure in the tank must flow back toward the compressor unless you have a check valve installed to prevent that. Thanks for watching!

    Great video Mark. The main cause of heat in the Yong Heng is the larger, lower cylinder. You have that covered with your high volume fan in the rear. People go crazy cooling the top and the lines, which are already water cooled. Like you, I use ice, which is a must. In the last year, prices have come down on the larger compressors. Great oil keeps the YH running well, and a great filter keeps water out of your tank- both incredibly important.

      Well...my YH is the type that cuts off automatically at a certain pressure, and although I tell it to cut off at 300 bar, it wants to cut off at 290, so I let it. No sense in making a big fuss over 10 bar. It's happy and I'm happy.@@recklessjunkie
