How to Build a Solid wood Aquarium Stand
in this video i go through the construction of a solid oak aquarium stand from start to finish. i use only dowels for fastening and a few pocket holes. full inset doors and soft close hinges.
the result of the stand is dyed black with ink to achieve a pure black finish.
thanks for checking it out.
eventually i swapped out the butcher block top for a slab of quartz because i couldnt get the butcher block to stay perfectly flat with all the moisture in the air..

How is this still working for you? It is very confusing and I am attempting to do it also.
I don’t have this system set up any longer as I moved, but it worked well! Good luck with the build
Your wrong on the sun & moon cycle Feature for spawning. Ecotech has this feature you just need to find it. There is a video showing you how to activate this feature if you want to spawn corals. I had ask orphek like 6 months ago if they were going to have this feature. And they did tell me yes but it still in beta testing. Glad to see a new light. Orphek likes are the best.
@6jdhd I have personally never heard of other companies doing this where you can literally automatically download your exact local solar/lunar cycle for your region, anywhere in the world, and mimic this down to .01 % of lighting for the lunar dark cycles. They might be doing something similar, but not to that extent.
@@AquaristExhibit Yes echotech has this. It's a hidden feature and got exposed when Spawning coral started happening and everyone wanted to know how they were doing this. So one breeder posted a video on how to get this feature activated on mobis
I believe Reefi also has this feature
what light did u get
I don’t have this tank any longer :)

@@killswitch0sama I have a brand new 5’ custom tank coming in a couple weeks. Stay tuned for some more videos about the new build!
Caves for fish ?
How is the system now? I'm planning to buy a 5 stage RODI unit which needs electricity. Have you refine the system? Do tell me the problems you encountered till now 2024 And how you managed to fix them. Thanks!
That same system is not installed anymore as I have moved from that house unfortunately.
@@AquaristExhibit oh. That's unfortunate. No plans to hop back to the project?
@@macrick I’m starting a whole new system which I am going to start a series of videos on very soon actually. In the next week or so!!
Terrific!!! @@AquaristExhibit
@@macrick will definitely be hopping back in, just a whole new project. First video incoming within the next week or so! Stay tuned
Good idea and video! I've been wondering how to inject the waste water back into the supply line too. But what happens when you're not showering or otherwise making room for the waste water? Will the booster pump continue to run and burn out the motor? Or does it get re-routed to normal drain and waste it? Also, my rodi is down the basement but fish tank is on main floor. I want to auto top off the fish tank to account for evaporation. I presume I would need another pump to get the water upstairs, but how to shut it off when fish tank float valve is off?
Thanks for the comment! You can buy switches that automatically turn off the pump when topping off is done, or alternatively you can use an reef controller like GHL. I just put more pressure back into the supply water than it runs at so it backs up into the city system
mine goes sediment, carbon, carbon, membrane’s x2, resin, resin?
Yes 100%
i believe you need to go from in to 1 micron-carbon-carbon-then the resin so it’s backwards???
looks amazing and so natural
Thanks so much, I really wanted it to look natural as possible but still something that works for the fish and corals. I’ll actually be doing another one soon! Stay tuned!
Now its the gloves I'm focusing on
Ha! Sorry tim
Looks awesome!
Does it work ok? Considering one myself
Not quite sure yet. Is being installed currently
Stay tuned for pt.2 where I have it installed 🤓
@@AquaristExhibit will definitely do.
Were you able to fit a roller mat/fleece roller in that first chamber?
Yes I was, it was a little tight, but with a 3D printed pedestal, I was easily able to mount the clarisea sk5000

Just purchased the same pump you upgraded too. wondering what fittings you got to make the factory nozzle work?
I’m sorry but this was a few tanks ago. If my memory serves me, the pump comes with a couple of different sized adapters, I just downsized until I was able to fit on the stock nozzle.
Can you tell me where you got the adapter please
Hi there, thanks for the comment. I got the adapter at a Canadian reef retailer it’s called reefsupplies. Hope this helps. I’m sure brs has them as well.
Can you do a video about the green plant on your back piece? How you got it. Is there a fresh water equivalent for us fresh water guys. I’ve got a flex 32 fresh water tank. I’m researching adding another salt one next winter
I would love to help you out with this but I don’t own this tank anymore. Also, that is a coral, there are no plants in the tank. Sorry
Man I wish I'd bought the fluval flex instead of the biocube. Nice setup
How often do you clean it
Roughly once every 2 weeks
Do you have a video of the rock in your tank?
Please check out my Instagram page for a video of the rock in the tank. Thanks
What setting do you have your lights on
Please see the light settings video on my channel
How is the evaporation in this tank?. Thanks
not too bad with the built in hood. I think in my region it was somewhere around 1L per day.
Could you not just run the waste waster back in right after your main supply shit off?
Yeah you can do that
So you just cut the hood allitte
Yes,
Are you running a skimmer?
PlEase see another video in my playlist regarding the use and install of my eshopps skimmer.
whats ur lightning program?? thanks
Please see another video in my collection that shows the schedule. Thanks
Thank you. I just upgraded to this tank. You saved me alot of research
Could I ask you why you have chosen the pink led to be only on 10% and white is ok on 75% ?
White light is not actually white, but is a “broad spectrum” which includes all wavelengths of the sun, whereas pink is a combination of blue and red, and Red light is not very useable for coral growth.
Hello i have two 3.0 Fluval Marine lights on my Fluval Flex 123L. I have gone by ur advice on the light settings and now have the same settings and times. I hope I have luck on growing my corals. I only have soft corals.
I think you should be just fine. Be patient. One thing I found with my tank was that some corals never really took off until the tank was more matured. Soft corals should be no problem.
Have you installed fluval PS1 skimmer on this ?
I chose to go with the eshopps nano skimmer and I loved it! I made a video about it and the install. Check it out!
How do you know how many DI’s are needed. I just want a small system for a 40 gallon reef system that I want to set up.
You can call the city water department and ask them how many tds is in the water, also find out if there is bleach, chloramines, chlorine, or other toxins or disinfectants in the water supply. Also you can easily check your own water supply beforehand with a tds meter. When it comes to De ionizing resin beds, I wanted to get the most effectiveness and longevity out of mine, so I opted for 3. A negative charged bead, positive charged bead, and a mixed bead. I typically would always recommend this DI setup as it lasts much longer, extra initial setup is negligible, and nothing can get by.
how are you forcing the water back into the system. putting it on hot is a better concept but you can't force that much water into a plumbing system that's already full.
I utilize a booster pump to increase the pressure in the line, which is higher than the pressure in my house’s plumbing manifold.
I've used this lighting schedule that you use but I have had zero luck keeping anything other than anemones and some Zoas alive. My GSP, hammer, octospawn, torch, and Goniopora all died. Water was perfect as well. Just doesn't seem to produce enough replication of the sun for these corals to thrive long term. How have you managed all of the corals you have to keep them so healthy?
Hey there L3, I’m sorry you’re not having any success with your tank and corals. Perhaps there is something not quite right, as every tank is different. Perhaps it’s a flow issue, perhaps it’s the water, or perhaps it’s pests or disease. I actually don’t own this tank anymore but I find consistency is the key. I switch the light schedule up slightly every month to kind of mimic what the days are like in real life. But other than that it’s hard to pin point what might be the issue for you. I truly hope you can get it figured out.
Which tank did you switch to?
Nice heads up that you need that metric to standard 1'' adapter!
I was fortunate enough to learn this beforehand. But the Gen 3 come with the metric and standard adapters
If I ever set up a reef tank again, I would do it like this. :)
Thanks! I honestly think having a rollermat is the single most helpful, time saving, nutrient removing, clarifying piece of hardware you can add to a reef tank. From here on out, I would never go without one. And I wish I would have used it from the start.
@@AquaristExhibit anything that makes maintenance easier is worth the investment. Maintenance time is the most expensive part of reef-keeping.
@@JonVlogs123 yeah definitely, I would have to agree. I would rather spend more time enjoying the reef than maintaining it.
Gen3 was 100% worth it coming from a Gen2! And if I were you I’d raise it more to have your rolls last longer. You literally want the water line right above the white pipe in the water. Also on the Gen3 1in standard piping fits right into the elbow on the Clarisea.
I plan on raising it once I move, but for now, this is all the noise I can handle haha. Yes! You’re right they come with a North American sized elbow!
What's the difference between the two since it was so worth it ?
@@eraserajm firstly they are literally the same price. Secondly it comes completely built without having to peel protectively paper off 1000 pieces to put together. It comes with a beefier motor and it’s more quiet. It comes with a tool to remove the rolls. The plus that comes out to connect to the power source is a better length. Also comes with “US” standard piping so you don’t have to source a part to use it after getting it. It feels better made more sturdy and less janky. I owned both and wouldn’t ever waste money on a Gen2.
The sump looks really great my guy and excellent explanation! Thank you for taking the time to break it down for us. 👏
Thanks for the kind words, if you have any suggestions or tips on videos please let me know!
@@AquaristExhibit You’re doing great! Keep it real and you already do.
Can you include the adapter pipe for us !! Not sure why I'd spend so much and then need to go and buy a adapter !
Is that v4 gen2 im a bit confused
No, I sold my V4 a while back so I could get the updated model ICon when it was available.
@@AquaristExhibit do you like it ? I cant decide between ati straton, red sea reef 160s, or orphek Icon
@@vargagergely152 I do love it, the coverage and the spectrum offering is outstanding. With the dual chip 5w leds and the new variable speed fans, it is much more efficient at heat management enabling considerably longer life for the LEDs. They have also updated the new App to be much more user friendly and also can be controlled from anywhere you have cell service. One thing that is also really cool about the orphek is that the fixture itself is fully upgradable as new hardware and versions are released. IMO it’s the best money can buy. But having said that, I have not used the others you mentioned.
@@vargagergely152 shoot me an email aquaristexhibit@gmail.com
How many pounds of rock did you use?
I think around 40-60
Nice setup!
Thank you very much sir
Hey, If you have the “L” size overflow box then we have the same one. I also use a “bean animal” setup but my main is completely open without anything on top of it. The second is setup with a 90 and street elbow 90 and a hole in the top. The emergency is the same. I added a video to my channel for you, I never touch it and is super quiet.
It is the L size, and I’ll take a peek for sure, thanks. Mine just has a compact strainer.
@@AquaristExhibit Gen coupe is right-shorten the main drain pipe (or get rid of it, or just put a strainer on it) in overflow box so you get more flow and less/no turbulence in the main drain pipe. Give it a shot and let us know if it worked.
@@MW-ut3dk the main drain only has a strainer on it. The entire length of the main drain piping is only about 2.5’.
I’d second using some 90s on the trickle drain. When I ran bean animal I had 90s on the syphon and trickle drain. Was dead silent
@@Jackal799 I can get it to be dead silent, I just have to adjust it, but I’m thinking it may be the fluctuating water level in the first chamber. I have to do some more further testing to be sure. But I will look into your idea as well. Thank you
The tank is looking great but your sump is amazing. Yes, the skimmer needs to be able to vent the air out from the cup output line, is actually how the banshea waste collector works to stop it from overflowing….it blocks the air and the waterline in the skimmer drops. I have not noticed any smells from it and I have a fowlr. He makes awesome stuff.
thanks !!! I’ll definitely have to look into this, thanks for the tip.
You needed to he proactive when the ugly phase starts. I add 10+ trochus snails and they prevent gha as they keep everything trimmed down as it matures and also biochemical intervention. All this prevents the ugly phase from turning into gha or worse
@ketoEDCza I have 4 large trochus in my tank for some time now, and am in the process of adding 5 Nassarius as well as 5 bumblebee. Also the addition of the Blenny. I will be bringing my rollermat online soon as well. Should really take care of it.
@@AquaristExhibit 4 trochus is way too little . My aquarium is much smaller and I have 15+ and also be carefull as bumblebee snails don't play nice, they often hunt and kill other snails and as for nasarius, for your size aquarium I would put 1 or 2 max..
Had the V4 lights.. after about a year my lights went out on me. I would never purchase any lights from this company again.. good luck with your new lights, hopefully these are better quality
How is your water so clear ?
