Honestly I just started playing FFXIV because I got bored of how easy Genshin was lol, but as an active fighting game player I love how FFXIV rewards you for playing optimally. It's also why I used to play DFO(the game that DNF Duel is based off of) because it was basically an MMO that played like a fighting game lol. Those games and Elden Ring makes me wish there was more games that respected your reactions, memorization, execution with the bonus of having a fun story. Although even with that said, im glad with what we got right now since I could play FFXIV and fighting games for years and still never be bored.

I got into Dragon Ball Fighterz around when I started XIV. I never stuck with fighting but the muscle memory from DBF lead to me learning how to play ninja. Which lead me to really trying more jobs. Great vid

Hi. 3000 hours in SFV/SF6, Granblue for over 600h and ffxiv for 1800 hours. 1800 MR in SF6 in South America which is high. Cleared p1s to p12s, thaleia, most criterion dungeon, extremes including Golbez and Zeromus and last few Unreals. Honestly pass trough all story campaing without skiping. Tried some casual activites. And realized that this is braindead masher even for casual. Ffxiv is not even a MMORPG. It's an always online 400h of VN while pressing 2 1 1 1 1 every few hours. Savages and extremes are hard as fuck, and ultimates even harder but theirs only 1/8 of a chance that yuo mess up unlike fighting game which is always you. When you clear them you feel hollowed. Ffxiv "players" tells that this game is for chilling, but that's a lie. All endgame content is about parsing QTE raids. This causes community being toxic as one mistake causes 15m of life gone. on top of that they often can't bear any criticism about the gorgeous. There is only 2 ways of playing ffxiv after 400h VN. Ass sniffing in Limsa and painful raids. I have hatred for game but i understand the love. Fully believe is VRchat is better for casual also having spent over 1000 hours

This is cringe, but tanking Diabolos after I unlocked Gunbreaker made me feel like Kirito soloing Gleam Eyes lmao Watching cartridges and OGCDs light up so I always had _another_ thing to hit him with. ‘Faster. I need to hit him faster!’ For the first time, we managed to one-cycle him before he could recast Ruinous Omen. I don’t play fighting games, but I absolutely get the hype.

Only games I've played online recently are fighting games, and here I am getting addicted to FFXIV thanks to the Yokai Watch and Dragon Quest events. The pipeline is real, but it's funny just how real it is.

I also came into it from the FGC though I didn't hear the "FGC retirement home" meme until after and it made sense after thinking about how many FGC peeps I knew who played, I still dabble in FGs for sure, but not nearly as much as I'd like. That muscle memory is real AF tho haha I was a bard main, but slowly got into other phys ranged and now I have machinist tuned into my fingers I am afraid of going back lol I have all jobs at 90 now and I try and make my keybinds in similar spots for each job (as best I can) so it feels more smooth

There is also the FXIV to Xenoblade and Trails pipeline, and the Trails to Xenoblade and FFXIV pipeline, and the Cenoblade to Trails and FFXIV pipeline. People who are really into deep long running stories that spans decades of real life, really love these three game franchises.

I feel like this is a game you have to be play with friends. Tbf first and last time I played this I didn’t know wtf I was doing. In terms of content and multiplayer this is exactly what I’m lookin for. The problem lies with gameplay. I’m a action guy I want to be rewarded with my movement options and the like. Eventually I will probably cave bc BDO is too excruciating from what I heard and there isn’t much out there competing with 14.

i started playing ff14 fully about 2 days ago ...... fuck

I been playing this fighting since about 2014 with skull girls followed by mortal Kombat street fighter 5. I also played ff14 for almost a year with a my gf. I tried for over a year to like ff14 but I never really got into it I had a savage raid group that I raided with for over 2 months i did lots of pvp and tried and max out lots of jobs (monks my fav) i ended up just going back to playing normal fighting games and wow which imo still has better combat but worst playerbase.

Honestly, I personally just can't play FF14 PvE Content anymore. They homogenized classes more and more, removed interesting skills (kaiten, my beloved), and the button bload is just... insane. While you are correct, it can be considered a rhythm game, in where you try not to drop your combo during a bossfight dance. I yearn for a bit more... interactivity. Interrupts/Stuns/Dispells/CC/pushback/more movement options. Things that make me think "I cannot stop this spell/ability with interrupts, but I can do x/y/z instead!" Sorry for the short grievance, but it's something I personally love about some FG's, certain characters unique way to handle a certain match-up. Even if it's just a command grab.

As a GNB main that likes to PvP often, yes, FFXIV is secretly a fighting game and you can't tell me otherwise.

One of the big reasons I like FFXIV is actually that it feels FG adjacent, without the stress of competition. I really like FGs but kinda don't like competing with strangers due to some intense anxiety issues, and FFXIV gives me a chance to really put myself in an environment that will test me without that pressure. I do wanna try and find a static for savage and ultimate eventually though, I wanna get fucked up

I am a casual fighting game player that picked up XIV in Feb. The pipeline is real 😱 Sadly I fell out of the pipeline in the Heavensward patch quests after like 160 hours 🙁I think I gave the game a real shake though - I played WHM, SCH, SMN, (60+) WAR (59), MCH (51) plus a few DOL but didn't end up clicking with anything, and I didn't enjoy the main story enough to continue either. The FGC pals that got me into the game quit in ARR or in the patch quests. I think I made it the furthest out of all of them too😢 I watched to the end though, because I really enjoyed the essay. You are very good at lining up clips with what you're talking about - I think you almost had too many good clips sprinkled in, case in point: 9:02 HOLY DOT?!??!?! WHAT 8:25 holy instant overhead (i need to steal this, i default to knocking my opponent full screen and spamming projectiles since I hate the feeling of missing my meaty hk and exploding 😅) I hope you enjoy playing Akuma when he comes out! I bet you're cracked, given that you have ultimate clears under your belt 🤯

I picked up Dragoon recently after playing this game for 8 years and I honestly wish I had leveled them sooner they're really cool once they start getting their dragon themed skills. It's also incredibly obvious it was probably the first melee DPS class they made if not one of the first classes they made in general so describing it as a "shoto" is pretty fitting.

So I never really played fighting games competitively but just enough to know things, so I’m definitely not part of your intended audience. However. I am vaguely aware the pipeline exists from the legendary video of a bunch of fighting game players nerding out about shadowbringers job actions. Why do I remember that? Because those fighting game players remember nearly every action names on display and pointed out which ones are new despite having few indications of being hardcore ffxiv players. The amount of detail they got right was staggering, even better than actual ffxiv content creators. But that was not all, one particular moment stuck to me: When the NIN showcase came up, the game finally did away with the Duality action and turned it into Bunshin. The fg players’ response? They went absolutely hyped and immediately shouted *Genei Jin* . (The effect was more Seiei Enbu than Genei Jin, but you get the idea). That is when it clicked with me: Fighting games are often loaded with move names, even when the ultra popular ones would get nicknames. Of course a fg player would instinctively know what goes where. That was the time I got an instinctive understanding of fg players’ fascination with this game. Hell, I’ve made a joke about Angel’s combo system being a new MNK rotation at some point in some discord channels. Your video then just confirms what I experienced back then, even from the outside looking in. Walk on and see you in Dawntrail!

Never was into fighting games besides some lookwarm dabble, but nonetheless great insightful video! Makes me appreciate the content in FFXIV even more.

Great video! I'm so surprised I did not hear the word "lab" one time. I played fighting games competitively for a while when I was younger and started playing FF14 at the launch of the PS4 version. Everything here was spot on.
