Albert Bierstadt (1830-1902) did two paintings titled "The Oregon Trail." One shows a campfire (1863). The other, *seen above,* was titled, "Emigrants Crossing the Plains: The Oregon Trail" (1869).

so beautifully performed and superbly conducted by Bernard Haitink. Brahms's first symphony is done exactly as it should be. Bravo Maestro You are sorely missed!

This has been among my favorite symphonies since I was maybe 14 and I'm now 73. It's associated with death because Mahler inherited myocardial problems from his mother and he knew when he wrote this final masterpiece that his life was short. Story goes that the 1st and 3rd movements were fully orchestrated, that he had sketched out about 75% of the rest. It was actually Mahler's habit to write a piano reduction of his symphonies before orchestrating them, often in 4 hands versions. He was also known to play his symphonies for friends from piano reductions. What was it about this symphony that caught my attention? How close does it get to atonality without actually getting there was one thing. It's emotional realism for another. The British musicologist Derek Cooke supposedly went to Mahler's widow to get permission to finish the orchestration and the project consumed him, literally. Since this remarkable symphony was released to the world, there have been many notable performances. This one has sped up the Adagio, a good thing and drawn sharper edges throughout. The impacts throughout should be emotionally devastating and they are. If it's scary music, you're supposed to be scared. Best

I don't understand the desperation of companies to interrupt beautiful music with their crass advertising. Put it at the beginning or put it at the end if you must, but don't insinuate your way into a piece in progress. It's a matter of decency versus indecency.

HEADLINE: Florida man writes classical music. It's underrated.

Used to think classical music was boring until my dad gave me a shortwave radio to listen to then I started to hear the good stuff like I'm hearing today! Now I'm talking about a kid living in the disco seventies and in high school!!!

The tamberines give an India flavor to the music and an uplift sound!!😅😅

Id rather blast my ears out with this than the modern tunes of today too inspirational to miss out!!

Florida does actually have great classical sounds and gets an old guy like me who grew up in the age of modern music very emotional! There is no other music that can move me like this! Beautiful romantic and relaxing!!

Houston is where I grew up, and although I never achieved the skill level to play in this orchestra while I lived there, I met and knew personally a few of its members. It's a truly great orchestra. The Houston Symphony released a few vinyls many decades ago on the Everest label with Stokowsky conducting. I never have understood why they haven't done more, because they are a superb orchestra.

A string bass can blend nicely with a wind ensemble - I speak from experience as player and conductor. Odd balance in this delightful performance - sounds like the horn player is in the next room, or out in the corridor. Good choice perhaps!

Todos los instrumentos "pesan" en el contexto de la música con peso propio. Pero, para mí, la "voz" del fagot, como la del chelo, suenan de una nobleza particular, diría que más humana. Este concierto lo pone bien de manifiesto
