Great playing! I’ve been having intonation issues with the wick on my 70s YHF-730, the throat being wide open does produce the velvet tone. However, my intonation through the partial series above middle C was uneven at my last jazz gig.

Perhaps it's just me but to my ear all the excerpt played with the Wick were seriously out of tune.

What type of Lotus mouthpiece are you playing on there? Seems to pair nice with the Adams flugel ! Great playing!

Nice playing.... Not a fair comparison as the Reeves F is shallow for Big Band playing. The Reeves FE is deeper, with a larger throat and much more warmth. They also have a DF which is closer to the Wick. Wick, generally has one shape, though they do do a shallow version for Jazz, 5EFL. I like a Reeves 42FE on my Couesnon. Depth, warmth, and facility for Jazz. I agree, I would use a Wick or a Reeves DF for Ballads or Brass Band.

My favorite was bob reeves

Wick for Brass Band playing, Lotus for general or small ensemble solo playing, Reeves for big band solo playing when you need to cut through.

Interesting. Reeves may have kore versatility but definitely agree it sounds more trumpet than flugel

Wick sounds best. Full and warm. 2nd one is ok-ish and the last one makes it almost sound like a trumpet

I thought each of the A series sounded a little better - A2 better than A1, etc. until A8. Then the trend continued with the A9 and A10 (best). Sonic and Prologue were somewhere between A7 and A9, but better than the A8. Now I don't know what it felt like playing each horn, or what you heard behind the bell.

Nice. I have a very old Yamaha Silent brass which is electronic. What do you think of such an electronic solution? If you have experience with it, would it be smart to buy the latest version instead using mine which is approx 15 yrs old I think
