Can’t believe people sleep on two against nature. It was my intro to the Dan with me falling in love with Jack of speed and asking my dad to listen to the album on my CD player when I went to high school. I started with that, the everything must go, then the older stuff starting with countdown to ecstasy. 2 against nature would be my favorite album if it weren’t for Alive in America whose live version of songs from other albums kicks so much ass. Steely Dan was my favorite band in high school and over ten years since graduation, i have yet to find a babd that tops it

I also love sunken Condos with my favorite song being Miss Marlene, it’s sooooo smooth

Some music that is well liked among lots of people is a total mystery to me.I just dont get Steely dan or the Rolling stones,or Bruce Springsteen and several other so called musicians. I dont want no horns or and very little piano in music.But to each their own i guess.

It is a great album for sure but... Not the best Steely Dan album IMO. Royal Scam and Countdown to Ecstacy are my personal favs. Gaucho is very underrated though.

13:40 a rando is something like an arrangement from a certain type of melody or something. Basically here it represents a lyric from an old song from a few centuries ago. Ghana is/was a third world country, mostly due to the fact that they were a non-aligned country during the Cold War. Then the Italian lyric is saying: “beginning of the era of the third world” or something. The lyric is in Italian because randos were traditionally Italian. So the singer is saying that in response to the man’s cries he is calling him a third world man.

Interesting review about the songs on Gaucho. I was always perplexed by the critics' harsh treatment of it. To me Glamour Profession would be among their top 3 songs. My opinion is that, although not technically Steely Dan "The Nightfly" is superior to Gaucho in songwriting expertise and in production quality.

Dingus is inappropriate. Dinghead is more appropriate. And the best Steely Dan album is likely AJA, but it is STILL up for grabs as far as the band is concerned. Gaucho is a good album, but it is surpassed by various releases in the the estimate of the fans.

It's taking me forever to get through this, as I'm listening to the songs as we go. :) I also get a Jack Stratton vibe from the commentary. That's meant to be a good thing. I'm almost through Two Against Nature as I type this comment. Really enjoying the journey!
