DIY Wood Wax: Seal Your Beading Boards!
Here's my favorite way to seal my wooden bead design boards. I make a homemade wood wax with walnut oil and beeswax pellets in the microwave -- it's SO EASY!
Instructions to make this wax from scratch are below, but you can also purchase this pre-made wax on Amazon:

You can purchase one of my mala boards here:
theweekendmystic.com/collections/mala-beading-boards
You'll need:
Beeswax pellets
Walnut oil (olive oil works too!)
Short, squat mason jar
Larger bowl to hold jar for double-boiler method
Spoon
Add a couple tablespoons of beeswax pellets to the mason jar. Pour oil until it completely covers the wax (erring on the side of more oil is fine).
Set the mason jar into the bowl, fill ...

What to Do When Bead Holes are Too Big
Просмотров 3 тыс.2 года назад
Ugh, don't you hate it when those beads FINALLY come in the mail but the holes are too big? Yeah. Me too. But there's an easy way to fix that just grab some spacer beads with holes just large enough to clear your cord. Sandwich one on either side of your big ol' bead hole and tie one on! For more info on different kinds of spacer beads, check out my post here: theweekendmystic.com/blogs/mystic-...
What to Do When Bead Holes are Too Small
Просмотров 6 тыс.2 года назад
You've just designed the most gorgeous mala but then when you go to string the beads, some of the holes are too small ARRGH!! Don't sweat it! All you need is a trusty bead reamer... Battery-operated bead reamer tools are sold in most bead stores but they kinda suck. Save yourself time and money and get these reamer bits for your rotary tool instead: amzn.to/3NvNHHP I love my cordless Dremel 730...

Choosing Gemstones for Your Mala Meditation Beads (Spiritual Meanings and Focusing Intention)
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.4 года назад
Gemstones can help us set and amplify intention when we meditate, and just like us, they have crystal "friends" that can amplify certain characteristics (just like that friend in high school who always brought out your wild side!). Learning the character of each stone is important, and once you become familiar with the basic traits of common crystals, you can begin to see how they play with eac...
How to Make Mala Beads with The Weekend Mystic
Просмотров 29 тыс.4 года назад
Learn how to make mala beads to help you focus intention in your daily meditation practice. Choose gemstone beads to channel specific energy, and a guru bead to remind you of your lesson/intention. There are a few ways to construct mala mediation beads, but this is the beading method I use most frequently. For this project, you'll need 108 beads (I prefer to use 8mm round beads made from gemsto...
Madison Area Pagan Pride Day 2019
Просмотров 2844 года назад
*Filmed at Madison Area Pagan Pride Day, September 7th, 2019 This was my second year at Madison's Pagan Pride Day, and it was (somehow!) even more lovely than my first. Pagans, witches and the curious and open-minded came together for an incredible day of ritual, fun, and of course shopping! My friend Kirsta made this beautiful video of the event there were so many amazing vendors this year! If...
Thays a cool trick I've always just used a needle to hold knot in place
If you’re still here…great video. I learned some things I hadn’t learned. What’s the thing re: licking the crystal?
What tool are you using?
So are you able to use one card of silk per mala? I’m wondering if those are 6 or 8 sized beads as well. Thank you for answering
How are these made? Kind of looks like CMC machine. I love the moons
The gem-cutting lubricant is soooo expensive 😖
Where do you typically get your beads from?!
Hello, I would like to ask you something,... if you know of course, I don't want to embarrass you... They have brought me semi-precious stones from abroad in regular round design, not big ones and since each symbolizes something and I would like to make a necklace, can you tell me which is better to put synthetic thread or silk thread or waxed string? What's better so that the stones don't break the necklace.. Thank you very much!!!
@@LenaVlahou hi Lena! The number of beads used as well as the material will have a lot to do with the cord you end up using. Unfortunately, many stone beads don't have holes cut large enough for the cord width needed for a mala's finished weight. The strongest choice is nylon, but nylon is synthetic and definitely not my first choice for an item that is supposed to return to the earth someday. I like silk for its tensile strength and biodegradability. If you're interested in learning more about cord choices and other mala-making info, check out my blog here: theweekendmystic.com/blogs/mystic-blog Thanks so much for asking!
Does this work on semi precious gemstone beads too?
Did you pre stretch it? I’m trying to find a good string to use. I made my first one with griffin it stretched way out after I was done.
Counting goes much quicker if you count out 4 piles.....of 27. Quicker than poop thru a goose.
Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom 🙏
I would love to learn how you make the pendants.
I love the way you attached the pendant. That's the technique I was looking for, thanks
Oh fantastic! You just made my day -- so glad it helped. Thank you! :D
Someone is into it! :D Love your vibe, passion and understanding; your mala boards are on my wish list <3
Hahaha you're my kind of people -- thank you so much! I'm so thrilled you liked it! :D
Super idea. What is bead lube please?
Hiya! It's called "gem cut lube" or "burr lube" and it is a slippery substance used to lubricate bits (aka "burrs") and stone while drilling or cutting (and it helps keep them cool to prevent cracks and damage from heat buildup). You can find it for sale on lapidary sites and even Amazon! :)
cut thread tip at an angle then dip into superglue.
How to finish? Clamps? Rings?
You can try encasing the ends in French bullion wire, or clamshell calottes -- there are lots of choices, but check those out -- I think you might like them! 😊
Thank you for this video! Just want I was looking for. Your blog is really good too! 😊
Thank you so much! You just made my day. 😊
Are you still making/selling the bead board?
Hi Jerrod! Yes I am, at TheWeekendMystic.com -- thank you so much for asking! 😊
Just found this video and its great! Thank you! My question is does the focal bead count in the 108 beads?
Not generally, no. It's the "guru" bead -- a nod to your teacher or the intention. 😊
Shop bracelet boards here: theweekendmystic.com/collections/bracelet-beading-boards Thanks so much for checking them out! :)
Love those beads 😊
Thank you! I was watching Mad Men that month and really got into those 60s prints and colors! :D

Woot woot! The pewter tutorial is at the top of my list -- thank you so much for letting me know! :D
Where did you get your wooden beading board?
I make them! :D You can find them at TheWeekendMystic.com -- thank you so much for asking!
Literally 3 seconds into seeing you I feel like we were sisters in a last life. I’m learning so much with you. Last Friday I placed the first Mala I made around my neck and when 108 beads all dropped to the floor (and rolled into my vents) I needed to find an expert. Knotting! Size 8 silk thread (not size 4!) etc. I’m so happy I found you.
Dawww thank you so much! 😄 I'm so thrilled you found it helpful! And I appreciate you taking the time to comment SO MUCH -- you're lighting the fire under my butt to do more filming! 🔥🔥🔥
This is really cool!
Oh thank you so much! :D
Love your bead board, where can we buy it!?
GAH! Sorry about the delay! I sell them at TheWeekendMystic.com - thank you so much for asking! :D
Hi. Just discovered you through a making mala search. I love that quartz you used as the guru. Did you make the setting? It's beautiful and so clear. Also can you tell the meaning difference between milky and clear? And inclusions .. what that is and memory?
Oh thank you, lovely LuAnn! You just made my day. Yes, I made the setting using the Tiffany method of soft soldering (which works with lead-free pewter). It's very easy and doesn't cost as much as silverwork. The difference between milky and clear and inclusions has to do with how the quartz is formed. Quartz is the most common mineral on the planet, but it looks very, very different depending on where it comes from and the circumstances it crystallized under. I consider very clear quartz to be the best general amplifier, milky is good for turning amplification inward, and inclusions help to color the intention according to the minerals present (red is usually iron, for resolve, or lithium, for acceptance of the things we cannot change, green is often chromium (pale green fuchsite, good for shifting energy and removing blockages) or chlorite (dark green, like in moss agate -- grounding energy, etc.). Sorry, that was a long response! But great questions -- I should make another video! lol
You are awesome. Very helpful. Thank you.
Omigosh, this comment just made my DAY -- thank you Susan!!
Hi, I would love to learn how to set crystals in pewter! Love your videos
Oh yayyyyyy! :D I will have to make a how-to with the pewter soon. Thank you so much for letting me know you're interested!
Are u left handed?
Yes I am. I know that can be confusing for righties. :/ Sorry about that!
I would love to learn how to set the crystals in pewter :) that looks amazing
I would love to do a video on this -- thanks so much for letting me know you're interested! :D

Omigoodness, thank you so much for saying so! I hope your bracelet-making journey is going well! <3
Would love to see how you made it
Thanks Lisa! :D I will definitely make a little video on how I make the pewter pendants. Thank you so much for watching! <3
Bonjour, très beau ce mala. Vous pouvez me dire où on peut acheter cette planche pour les perles ? Merci 😊
Bonjour Kasia! I have a list of the places I buy my supplies here: theweekendmystic.com/blogs/mystic-blog/best-places-to-buy-beads-and-other-mala-making-supplies Thank you so much for asking! :)

Where did you get the drill bit?!!
I wrote a blog with all the links! (Link in video description) Thank you so much for asking! :)
Thank you for putting it out there❣️ I love your videos! Please please make more 🙏💜
Omigoodness, thank you Jenny! You made my day! :) (and I will definitely try to make more haha)
Hi! This is so helpful! :) Can you please share a link for your reamer’s bit, along with the gem cutting lube?
Oh yes of course! Thank you for asking -- all the links can be found in this article I wrote on my blog! :D theweekendmystic.com/blogs/mystic-blog/what-to-do-when-bead-holes-are-the-wrong-size
So beautiful. What string size do you recommend for 6mm beads and 8mm beads? Thank you
Most of the time I recommend 0.8mm Griffing silk, not doubled. If you're using doubled cord, you'll want to go 0.45mm or thereabouts. I wrote a more in-depth article about mala cord here if you're interested! :) theweekendmystic.com/blogs/mystic-blog/the-best-cord-for-mala-making Thank you so much for watching! <3
Love your beautiful cat! Good instruction too.
Awww thank you -- she's blushing. ;) So glad you liked the instruction too -- thank you so much for watching!
Just wanted to say that I saw your black kitty cat playing with the end of the silk. I have two black ones myself and they would definitely be doing the same. 😂
BAHAHAAA they're the best AND the worst, amiright? Ugh, I love mah kitteh so MUCH! :D
