May is the beginning of garden season in Denver. Think of a race at the starting line and the flag finally drops to the floor. GO! That's what it's like. January is frigidly cold here in Colorado. Nothing can grow outside with negative degree temperatures, so we adapt to starting indoors. All of our chickens moved into their new home just in time for the hard freeze in Colorado. We also winterized it as much as we could given the short time frame. Happy hens = happy eggs for us!

December brought on a lot of cold, holidays, and my birthday. We bought a used coop locally and rebuilt the run. We got crafty and built a new coop from scratch. We also enjoyed the holiday season making dumplings and doing fun activities including archery, skating, and sledding. Happy Holidays!

Our Rhode Island Red hen gave us our first eggs. We feel like accomplished parents to our flock of ladies. We also celebrated our first Thanksgiving in Colorado with some snow. We lost our greenhouse tunnel and put our garden beds to sleep. We cleared out the back, full of rock, to expand the garden for next year. Urban gardening with first soft frost and prepping coop for egg laying. Still able to harvest baskets full and push final harvest till the end of October.

While most of the gardening world is in peak season, I just started seeing major production and harvesting first veggies. Harvest really picked up toward the end of September. We enjoyed our produce with full bellies.

Another month of progress and adaptation to new climate, store bought plants on sale vs from seed, experimenting with killing grass and amending soil, raising chickens (6 weeks). We started to harvest some produce and made meals with them. No where near an abundant harvest, but grateful nonetheless.
