The Brack - a documentary
A social history documentary from @DigitalDub about the birth of a working class suburb in Dublin, Ireland, in the 1970s and 80s, as told through the eyes of those who moved there and grew up there. It traces the development of Ballybrack (The Brack) from rural village to sprawling suburb, primarily built by Dún Laoghaire's local authorities, to address a chronic housing need at the time.

Up brack 🇮🇪❤️🍀
I use live in 179 Ashlawn pk Ballybrack. Left because childhood abuse by father who's pedophile Patrick Lewis I'm oldiest 7.. Best days when I ran away as much as I could. People lovely up in brack. I miss been in Dublin but can not go near it anymore as I get triggered fright and flight is what I do.
Saw me old next door neighbour Noel Murray in that BBB pic .
Great story telling - grew up nearby and remember some of these places being built.
Amazing time as a kid growing up in Ballybrack. 👍👍🥇
My Auntie and Uncle, the Gaskins, live there.
10K views in 2 weeks. Amazing.
Loved this! I grew up in Shankill but went to St. Laurence's & met so many great people from "The Brack" as a result so this just resonates so much. Paul's contribution was just brilliantly funny!😂😂 Well done to all involved.👏👏
Great documentary . Great to hear all about the prefabs and Scoil Cholmcille. The Spanish Students! ...that had me laughing. So true😂😂
Have to echo - this is brilliant. As an old Ballybracker I was fascinated watching the growth of Ballybrack from the tiny village I knew to a sprawling suburb. A valuable social history documentary - well done!
What’s the point living in a place that doesn’t have any ladyboys .
8k views in 4 days. Astounding. Michael, when this stabliises (if it ever does) it would be worthwhile having a good look at the RUclips detailed statistics. Might even be a story there.
Already done it rates way up on youtube for video of that length, with people watching from start to finish.
@@j4g831 WOW !
Great documentary, very nostalgic and really well made. Grew up not far from Ballybrack so know all the areas and some of the people. Well done to all involved 👏🏼
This is great, didn’t want it to end! Thanks guys and well done. 👏
Great stuff. Enjoyed this immensely. Was born in Loughlinstown hospital meself, went to St. John’s & my grandad used to manage the Rambler’s Rest. I wrote a song about the area as well. Here it is here: ruclips.net/video/BqFETECuVyY/видео.html
Ah this was great to see, a former bracker and it brought back so many memories - well done all!
Fantastic Memories !! Well done all .................
Very well done, I enjoyed watching that :)
4.9k views. That must be nearly everyone in Ballybrack. But seriously, I'm getting good reports from people who don't have a particular interest in Ballybrack per se. A theme that is also coming at me: "Why can't they do one for our place?". See what you've started, lads!
This is brilliant. Grew up in Willow Vale from 1974. This brought back so many good memories I have of growing up. Fair play to all involved
This is such a blast ! And an old classmate contributed .. amazing lads.. you’ve done The Brack proud
Brilliant, grew up in Wyattville Park in the 60s/70s. Went to St Johns National School, used to walk back to Fenelons to watch them at work in the abbatoir behind the shop. Kevin Scanlon of the Ramblers Rest was a neighbour and family friend..... many memories came flooding back including meeting Brother Fred for the first time as a kid when he had just arrived from the US.....
Great work lads, It was very enjoyable. I'm not a "Bracker" by any stretch of the imagination, however I was baptized in st Alphonsus and Columba's in the village and went to Laurence's in the 80's. So I have a connection with the place and knew and know some really great people from Ballybrack. Its a really nice piece of work that show's some of the character of the place.
What a fantastic watch, well done to everyone involved 👏 ❤️
Love this, well done to all involved, brought back so many great memories from my youth living in Ballybrack.❤️
Bro Fred bless u what a wonderful man
Rahoo Rahoo Rahoo
Maith an obair. I grew up in 144 Cedar Court. I know so many of those names and placed. A really moving tribute. I'm a long way from home now. But Dublin and the Brack, will always be with me. Sláinte.
Brilliant well done all 👏👏
Enjoyed that. Well done!
Well done guys! A great piece of work which deserves a lot of credit.
Brilliant really well done everyone 💪💪💪🤘🤘🤘
Brilliant stuff, congratulations to Keith and Michael for all their hard work in putting this together. Great trip from the origins of the Brack to the now. 👍👍
Great job lads. Brought back some memories but a lot of news about the place since I left in 1975.
Great film. Congratulations to all involved!
Loved that. Thanks very much for making it!
Can't wait.
We learned our football on the streets. As the fellas here were saying, you played for hours. Every day.. the problem now is the kids train for an hour twice a week. And it shows. The football played today in the Leinster Senior league is terrible bad. Absolute atrocious if I'm been honest. And it's all got to do with football not been played on the streets anymore. PS I can't believe Paul McGrath didn't get into the "Dun Laoghaire Fantasy team". Didn't even get a mention. 😁😁😁
It’s true. I’m 46 and we played for hours till we got stitches from the smog and we took a breath and kept on playing.
A Great story of the area , the players , the club and the community .Thanks
Excellent viewing 👌
Great oppertunity to thank Brendan O Connor, Michael Lennon and remember the extraordinary human being that was John (Mister) Lennon.Played for Pearse late 60s to mid 70s, excellent club and people. George Hogan.
We played together George! Jimmy
@@jimdavidson7099 Good times Jimmy ⚽️👍
Just read Richie's book. He has definitely experienced life and he is using his platform wisely. The creation of a mental health module in secondary school is a great initiative. I'm a female with little interest in soccer but Richie's book is raw and delves into very personal highs and lows of his life. Although he always seemed to have some willpower in reserve to eventually reach success & happiness. He's also very easy on the eye🥰
Brought back so many good memories of my time there as a player and team coach. There are many more stories that could be told. Michael Lennon
Glad to hear Michael - we only scratched the surface but hopefully it’s provided people with the opportunity to reminisce and share other stories with each other.
I remember you well Michael.
Played for Pearse Rovers through the Seventies. The great Brendan O’Connor was my manager and the equally brilliant John Lennon early on.
Really enjoyed the story about pearse rovers excellent I played with pearse for awhile Damian Allen was the manager my grandfather was 1 of the founding members Tom Higgins
Played with Pearse in the early 70s . Tommy Heffernan was my manager. The great Paul Mc Grath also with us then.. Lonan Boylan
Great stuff. Fairly certain Ger Keating was up at Bellevue Boys in the 80s too, up on Thomastown Rd.
Played for pearse and Joe’s in my day
Brilliant Community work ⚽️👏👏🇮🇪
Really enjoyed that, brought back great memories of schoolboy football in the Borough. Remember seeing Sean playing for Preston North End in Deepdale and after the game Sean invited me into the Players lounge where I met Alan Kelly, who was Assistant Manager at the time.Being a Preston fan that was a great moment for me.So thanks again Sean and good to see Richie looking so well. Well done Lads,
Excellent
