1995 03 13 Chasing KCS Grain Trains
Просмотров 6 тыс.7 лет назад
Grain was in season in March 1995 on the KCS. Nick Huth and I spent an evening chasing KCS grain trains Between La Place and Baton Rouge. My favorite scene is the meet between northbound empty grain train No. 702 and southbound loaded grain train No. 701. The two crews put on quite a horn show as they both approach the busy Essen Lane grade crossing! No. 702 is on the main with SD40-2s 658 and ...

New Power for the Meridian Speedway Fleet. Two new Illinois Central SD70s arrived for operation on the Meridian Speedway. Their debut run was recently held on Greg McComas' Michigan Interstate as sole power on a coal train. There is even a meet at Grey's Lake with a train led by the MCIS 30th Anniversary locomotive. There are also plans to paint several of these for my Y&MV proto-freelanced reg...

I made a trip with Kurt Nastasi on March 11, 1995 to southern Mississippi in search of a DEGX coal train. During this time the Daniel Electric Generation power plant near Escatawpa, Mississippi was doing a test burn of Powder River, WY coal being delivered via the Burlington Northern to the Illinois Central at Memphis, TN. The Illinois Central handed the trains off to the Mississippi Export Rai...

Video taken on a road trip from New Orleans to Monroe, LA to ride an NRHS Excursion Train on the A&LM. Videoed from November 6-8, 1992, this work gives a glimpse into the long-gone sights and sounds along the railroad that would someday be purchased by the KCS and upgraded to Class I standards and dubbed the "Meridian Speedway". Many thanks to Mr. S. Russell Tedder who made this trip on the A&L...

A look at the Orin Line in the Wyoming Powder River Basin on June 20, 1990. We start East of Donkey Creek an catch a pair of Burlington Northern empty coal trains headed for the mines. Next we find a perch near Belle Ayr Mine where we see the Belle Ayr Helpers assist a loaded coal train out of Caballo Rojo Mine. Intermodal hotshot train No. 91 makes an appearance there as well. The we follow CN...

New Orleans Trains - 8-3-1990 - KCS GP30 Finale!
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.8 лет назад
The KCS bought 20 GP30s during 1962-63, and the last of these were taken out of service in 1990. In their final years of operation, six of these were assigned to the diesel shop in New Orleans. Three were used on the nightly turn to Baton Rouge, one each was used at Norco and Gramercy, and one was kept as a spare. In late July and early August 1990, four GP40s were assigned to New Orleans, and ...

Michigan Interstate - Switching Bay City Yard
Wow, this is the first video footage I've seen of an F69PH! I do love me some Amtrak phase III paint F40PH action! And NS high hoods are always nice to see.
I have fond memories of commuting on the peninsula with the "Pooches" in the 80s.
Absolutely superb!
One of the best of Amtrak 42:18
I enjoy videos such as this I am a rail fan
Excelentes capturas ya quiero las futuras et44ac de cpkc y ferromex
31:45 Rudolph and Clarice almost got hit and died
I thought that the name of the song was 'City of Grenada.'
No, dummy. It's the "City of New Orleans.' (By the way, Grenada is in northcentral Mississippi, just east of I-55.)
I grew up on the road that is crossed just past M.P. 676.0. About 15:45. That's the Dolphin Line Trucking Company on the right. It's still there. They then pass under Rangeline Road. At the time there was only one two-lane bridge, but not long after they built a second bridge to make two lanes North and two lanes South. Sometimes I still miss hearing the train horns. Thanks for the great video.
Cool video and channel just subscribed
Why #59/#58 don't go through Granada anymore?
Great and realistic footage! I can’t wait to ride through these parts when It finally opens again!
My Brazil Have More Locomotives
I didn’t know Amtrak had F40PHM-2s
Great video
Fun fact: lounge 39973 was involved in the Big Bayou Canot rail crash (it stayed on the tracks though)
Guessing the 2 helpers are SD40-2s. Specially painted tank car between them is interesting. No idea what that's about unless they somehow refuel from it?
Very Cool Video of yestery3😊
This is a great video, thanks for sharing.
I like the combination 710g3s with 567D3s.awesome man
It astounds me that you can move all that weight because the contact area between rail and wheel is the size of a roll of quarters......
Wonderful video. Just wish that we could have gotten more images from the interior apart from that brief view inside the bar car.
Funny how 20 years after this video, the line was at triple and quadruple track capacity……and then came the slow decline from the war on coal. It’s a sad sight now with less than half the trains it once had.
pee wee bounds was dispatcher who passed away in early 90's ...great dispatcher
Cool video, sucks Amtrak didn't get 1 and 2 back to Florida after CSX gave them the OK to come back after they repaired that line after Katrina!
New Subscriber! Congratulations on 1K subs!
Illinois Central would later sell its soul to Canadian National in 1999, despite comprehensive cost-cutting measures it made in the early 1990s.
I hear amtrak is restoring the route to mobile Alabama in 2022. I sure hope they restore the route all the way to Florida.
To bad All of these P-30CH's got scraped, and none was preserved for a museum....
well sorry to say.......we have the 3171 in our shop now, wreck repair lol was in a derailment and got dinged up pretty bad, thank you or the job security
Does the conductor manually sound the horn at all those grade crossings, or is it done automatically? If the former, how does he know when a crossing is ahead? And if the letter, what are the differing timing and lengths of the - - • - pattern based on (e.g. speed?)?
The engineer sounds the horn manually for the crossings. There is always a "whistle post" a certain distance out from any crossings warning them that they're approaching a crossing (these days they also say if it's a quiet zone crossing). The standard horn pattern for all grade crossing is two long one short and one long blast held until the crossing is occupied.
The only thing I have to say is are some of these train tracks still there? Or were they destroyed
I think all of the tracks in this video are still in use!
@@ChristopherPalmieri I’m gonna have to look on google maps to see where the train tracks are
The good P5A horn
Nothin like a nice 5mph train ride
I used to get so excited when I would see one on the city of New Orleans
Yes, this is HISTORY, here!!!
Great, Christopher! And I do mean GREAT!!! Do you or your Father happen to have any Cab Rides aboard the EMD F40PHs? SDP40Fs, or E-Units down there (or anywhere?). Or, aboard the GE P32-8BWH "PEPSI CANS," or the old P30CH "Pooch" Units? Even in Super 8? And if aboard the true Southern "Southern Crescent," either pure or in its Transition Era from the SR to Amtrak, well. I'm certain the two of you have many slides at least of those ABSOLUTELY **WILD** Locomotive Consists of that era? Probably video as well!!! Wow were those some wild engine consists during the handover period! F40s leading blends of both Southern AND Amtrak E9s, and occasional SDP40Fs! Anything went!!! And the period after the tragic 1978 Southern derailment was "Anything Goes," as well. Thank you for posting this! Very interesting & enjoyable!!!
Thank you Clayton. I have some videos from F40PH and Dash-8 32BWH's shared on my father's facebook page - you can search fro them here: facebook.com/groups/225493681137530
Wow that's nice when you follow the train
When i was a kid, about 60 years ago, getting a ride in the cab of a train was nearly impossiabe, unless you had a realative working on the railroad, or your dad new some big shot . for a kid of 9 or 10, it was an adventure that lasts forever in your mind! weather it was steam or diseal, now we see it right here on you tube! Big thumbs up!
AWESOME!!!😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁🎈😁
None were preserved for display. I realize they were not very successful, but they were Amtrak's first bought-new locomotives equipped with head-end power (HEP), and proved the concept that Amtrak has kept using for providing hotel power to their trains ever since.
I remember these demo trains, a couple came to Georgia Power's Wansley with BN C30s
Sob. We used to message about train stuff and models. I didn't know this... just sometimes he went ghost on social media's due to the rr. Damn. Nice tribute.
It's a shame they didn't reinstate that service. But today it wouldn't make a difference. Great footage
David Stewart I heard it’s happening in 2022. The sunset limited 🚂 route is being restored in Mobile .
That K5LA is epic! Perfect half-step of the chord down from half blast to full blast. I love how the Genesis locomotives sound. It's a shame that cab rides and crews carrying electronic devices went away before consumer audio recording technology got good enough to record modern high-quality audio.
I’ve seen CSX tier 4 locomotive before but never seen a CN or NS or UP Tier 4 Locomotive but those look very nice
31:43 Bambi almost got hit
NEAR MISS!!
KCS 4818 & 4834 have Nathan horns that are made to sound like RS5T horns. Same with 4817 but 4817’s horn got fouled.
Hazlehurst turn...first car is an old Louisiana Midland boxcar with NOKL reporting marks. That was sweet!
I rode the Gulf Wind from N.O. To Jacksonville, Fla as a 14 year old in 1963.....sadly, something my children nor grandchildren will experience. I loved the L & N and did much train watching aside the Waveland, ms. train station. Wonderful childhood experiences.
