Hector Berlioz - The Damnation of Faust by Herbert von Karajan
La damnation de Faust (English: The Damnation of Faust) is a work for orchestra, voices, and chorus written by Hector Berlioz (he called it a "légende dramatique").
Herbert von Karajan (5 April 1908 16 July 1989) was an Austrian orchestra and opera conductor, one of the most renowned 20th-century conductors. His obituary in The New York Times described him as "probably the world's best-known conductor and one of the most powerful figures in classical music."[1] Karajan conducted the Berlin Philharmonic for thirty-five years. He is the top-selling classical music recording artist of all time, with record sales estimated at 200 million.[2]

It's too fast, almost fast-forwarded, and as such slightly ridiculous. Other versions are somewhat too slow or lacking intensity. It's difficult to get it right.
This is what plays when you are are about to Troll Romania
Come from Oggy & The Cockroaches S01Ep04
Very German, but not quite right, as Berlioz was French. The tempo isn't right, the interpretation is off.
5 Trumpet !!!!!!!!!! 10 Kontrabas !!!!!!!! wow

Maravilhoso Berlioz
the Master. Sharp and majestic.

Way. Too. Fast. But maybe HvK was thinking about it in the same sense as Korngold, who when confronted by a Feldmarschall as he was rehearsing a new march with the words "but Korngold, what are you doing? That's much too fast for a march!" - replied: "Your Excellency, it's for the retreat." (Euer Exzellenz, es ist für den Rückzug.")
A brilliant repartee !
I agree, too fast, squeezes a lot of the juice out of the piece.
Berlioz wrote in his memoirs about playing this in Budapest. The Hungarian audience was astonished and made him perform it again.
It takes away my heart and my mind at the same time!
#punkattitude Berlioz, le grand !
This performance invites the immeasurable emotions
This what I call music!
Báječný výkon pánové, báječný. Nechválil jsem vás, ale sebe. 😃👍
That's a lot of accents, it almost feels fake 😂😂

A few days ago listened this from Luisi at a MET performance. Yesterday from Rattle at a LSO performance. Then I said to myself: This piece used to have more guts. Then I remembered from whom I've heard it first
how true, incomparable

" - Stanislas Lefort , Grande vadrouille -

Ashleigh Holmes very helpful
Maravilloso!!!
Music starts at 0:38.
Pentameron very helpful
maybe Karajan was a genius ...... but he did not have the necessary feeling for the expressiveness of the music. He has conducted many pieces, especially Beethoven symphonies, like someone who urgently needs to go to the toilet !!! Sorry, there were and still are conductors today who really deserve this title
Frodo, try Igor Markevitch's recording, also on YT; I think you may prefer it, as it's a little slower, but has much more tension. His complete recording is very highly regarded. I often think that vK WAS a genius, but he might have played a massive part in, say, finding a cure for cancer. As for other conductors, Karl Bohm is sadly under-rated (although not by me !); his Beethoven, Mozart and Schubert were far more stylish. Also, of his era, Krips, Jochum, Wand, and several others. However, he did an EXCELLENT Meistersingern from Bayreuth in the 50s, if you like Wagner.
Masterpiece
sublime
This is not a "March", this is a "Galop", as ever with this "Man in a Hurry" who was Karajan.
Karajan's tempi were seldom faster, and quite often slower, than those of his contemporaries.
My dearest friends all over the world, please listen to Daniel and his way of condacting music. There will be the feeling of music by this master. The matter of taste.......................

This is one and only version that can burn my blood! Great Karajan!
