I worked at official TED in Vancouver back in 2014 or so. I was pretty horrified at the time by how the whole place was a corporate exhibition. TEDx definitely diminished quality and trust in the brand but TED is only a reflection of the tech industry and our economic system overall. As corporate technological optimism is rotten at its roots it feel unavoidable that this slide into sales and marketing expo would happen- and has already been happening for more than a decade. You know where you find ideas worth spreading? Boring af academic conferences and often publicly funded academia. If there were to be a new TED-like entity whose job it was to help the public engage with exciting new ideas and perspectives then it would be a case of seeking out and curating that stuff, putting it in the hands of labs/offices who have great science communicators and then putting it on stage.

Ted Talks was something I watched even before our Physics professor in college suggested us to watch them. The videos before were eye opening than today.

The only TED talk that i watched and still loved to this day is the TEDtalk of that guy in corridor digital really good stuff
