Leuke video's!

These things don’t have insurance. We have other problems with the clutch or engines every day. We don’t need a bend or broken direction because of you. Yes the kart have bumpers but you’ll be surprise how it doesn’t protect the kart.

Great video! Here are some things I learned that might be helpful for folks looking to take up rental karting. 1). When you're just starting, it's best to pick one track in your area and focus your efforts there. 2). Start racing as soon as you can. Tracks usually have some sort of club licence system (at least in my country), where you have to set a certain laptime to be allowed to race with more experienced drivers. As soon as you get the license, go to your first race. It's the best way to learn. 3). Unless you are extremely talented, karting is pay to win. If you want to improve, you will need to practice. Ideally, you want to drive at your track of choice 2-3 times a week, 30-40 minutes each time. Yes, it will cost. But without a sufficient amount of practice, you will hit a ceiling pretty quickly. 4). If you can afford it, hire a coach. Sometimes the top drivers at a karting track will offer training sessions at a reasonable price, or you can find a local racer who does training. You can learn by yourself, but a coach will teach you much faster. I've been karting for a couple of years, making small improvements over time, but one training session with a top driver took me from the middle of the pack to fighting in the top 10 consistently. 5). Rental karts are never equal. Every single kart at any given track is unique. Some will be very fast, others very slow. No matter how much you practice and how well you drive, occasionally you will have a terrible race just because of bad machinery. Or, you can have a great result just because you got lucky with the kart. Don't dwell too much on the results, use every race as a learning opportunity and look for ways to improve yourself. 6). As already stated in the video, don't go crazy on gear. It's better to spend money on practice. If you have free budget, this is what you should buy first: - Gloves. The most essential piece of gear. If you practice 2-3 times a week without gloves, you will get blisters. Gloves prevent that. I would recommend Sparco. Make sure to pick the right size, they should fit pretty tightly. If gloves are too big for your hand, you will get more blisters than without gloves. - Helmet. Rental helmets at tracks are usually in poor condition, so having your own helmet will provide more comfort when driving. Sparco and OMP offer karting helmets at around 150 - 200 EUR. A bike helmet will also do, but they are designed for higher speeds and don't provide great ventilation when karting. If you race outdoors, a tinted visor is a great addition. - Camera. Very helpful for self-improvement. A GoPro would be perfect, but really anything that can be mounted on a helmet will do just fine. - Rain suit. Only applicable if you race outdoors. Look at Sparco and OMP models, they will keep you 95% dry during a wet race. They're also great for winter karting, as they will protect you from the cold headwind and keep you warm. - If you race outdoors, a telemetry device (for e.g. MyChron) will help you a lot. You can monitor your laptimes in real time while on track with it, great for practice sessions. They are, however, pretty expensive. - Rib protection. This is optional, in my experience there's never been a situation when I would need it, but it depends on the track. Race suit and karting shoes are only for looks, they should be the last pieces of gear you buy.

Hey, thanks for the thorough comment :) I already made a video 2 weeks ago about what gear to buy as a beginner that covers some of these, without specific examples of gear, but more or less a budget to look at. It does cover most of what your comment tries to convey. About the pay to win, it depends who you compete with. The people driving multiple times per week will take part in pro cups, beginner cups usually involve people driving a few times a month instead. At least in Belgium. All in all, valuable info, but have a look at my other vids ;)
