It's Too Late to Apologize
Добавлен 6 янв 2014
This is a place where books are loved and discussed. I'm Stella Telleria, and I'm a writer and an avid reader. This channel is all about trying to balance working on my second novel while chipping away at my ever growing TBR pile.
Stella Telleria is an author who's dreamed of stories or has had her nose buried in one her whole life. She likes books with action, a good plot, and characters she'd get into a fight at the pub for. Not that she's a brawler or anything. Unless you think that out-of-print book or vintage piece at the thrift-shop is going home with you instead of her. Then, my friend, the gloves are off.

Epitaph of a Small Winner ; The Road to Irreverence
Atwood should be on Canadian money, because she represents Canada -- tedious and hateful
You give off a lesbian vibe. Perhaps it is just because you are Canadian.
You lack sympathy for Stephen's pussy-addiction
What if she were borne in a time she has the meanings and the resources to take revenge in all sociaty who judge her. And what if its God's will she be bourne so out of place for the ethics of zeitgeist and all girl power. Things changed place and changed sex. If a loser is the one who dont fit the sistem. Why keep using it? Im also repusive but it seems that the diferrence between you and me ia that you had a choice just couldnt see it for onbliterating the fact that i minght be wrong. Im also always defensive even thow most of time im nice. My bare soul is offensive and never apologising. I need help but not even I m able to help myself
Guess i wanst made for ordinary or happiness
,,, its a beautiful book,,, ive just finished it and will reread at some point,,, Stella have you done the Master n Margrita,,, Frankenstein,,, or brother Karamazov i,ll have look at what you doing,,, but yes 100 years is great,,, ive mentioned Shakespeares rulled me if you have alook at Borges Laberrinths thers an essay called everything and nothing its about when Shakespeare retired in 1613 he died in 1616,,,, Anyway omg id love a good chat with ya yeah keep up great reviews 😂
I really love your review of this 100 years book ,,,,, I've been a slave to Shakespeare and its only over last 12 months I've looked at classic works err dostoevsky Mccarthy brontes err borges shelly Garcia 😂 keep up great reviews ❤
Good review. I really enjoyed the book, especially Hawthorne's amazing, breathtaking descriptions and vocabulary. I disagree about the beginning chapter and its relevance. If you recall, Hawthorne talked about the Custom House and its cast of characters and bustlingness in order to set the scene for the lead up to the story. That is, when he finds the Pue papers and the scarlet letter, and wonders what this was all about. So while lengthy and excessive, the introduction really sets the scene for the time in which the story takes place, and the random and and gem-like find of this story amidst a bustling, busybody New England town.
Just finished today. Emma breaks my heart. How many people live their lives like this?? I feel like most of us have had moments of despair - just she lived there. Oh Emma. ❤ and Charles - so blindly devoted. I loved his last scene with Rodolphe
as i just finished this ball of confusion, your video set me straight again. I don't want to reread this, I was Faulkner'd big time, and the joke feels like it was on me. I will preview more video analysis on his works as i lay dying in another of his novels. thank you for your work.
I was so impressed with your interpretation of outer dark I came straight here. I think you may need to read blood meridian a few more times and think on it though, you have the same impression everyone has on a first reading. It’s not wrong but it will evolve and change the more and deeper you read this book.
@@gregawallace hello! Yes, I had only read this book once and this was early on my path of analyzing books. I now read a book at least 3 times when I do a deep dive on it. I was planning to read all of McCarthy and then come back and reread Blood Meridian again to do it proper justice. What a book, eh? Currently working on the write up of my The Passenger analysis that has been taking eons to flesh out. But such is life.
@ im still working through his catalog as well I had read blood meridian years ago and a few times since, no country and the road, then took a long break. I just finished outer dark and child of god and I definitely need a McCarthy break after them. Im currently reading a Philip k dick book then I’ll probably pick up suttree. I’m definitely enjoying your channel keep reading and telling us what you think.
This is the first of your videos I’ve watched, I was really impressed with your insights and thought on an extremely deep book that’s commonly read very shallow. Outstanding video I really enjoyed your take away. I’ll definitely be watching more of your content and I’m really hoping you have a blood meridian review.
@@gregawallace Hello and welcome to my channel. I really enjoyed this book. I still think about it and ponder different meanings of things. I do have a Blood Meridian review.
Yoo!!! Cool video. I just saw the PART 1 - Netflix series. It's Mindblowing, messed up, and twisted af!
Pog intro
I think i got through half the book when i was like 15, too corny, just couldn't get into the story
Fantastic video! This help me understand the book better. I did it as an audiobook and i imagine that was a mistake. I spent a lot of time being confused
Thank you for the incredibly insightful reflection and analysis.
I love the way you enjoyed doing this video. And I see you are a smart reader, from now on, start calling Gabo for his lastname, García. In Colombia we use surnames from Father and Mother. so, Marquez was his second lastname. I wish you go to Colombia and see by yourself that the book is real. Colombia is magic and beauty (as you are). Thank you for sharing these wonderful minutes. Love your mood..
Can you write the name or translator, please
Too good review
What an excellent review. Please do more.
Really enjoyed your interpretation of this interesting book, which was definitely difficult to read
I read it almost 40 years ago and it has remained my all time favourite book, so much so that I hardly dare reread it! It had such a profound effect on me - I read everything GGM wrote, read many other Latin American authors, and then travelled to South America and visited Aracataca in Colombia. Loved this review and sorry to see you are not making videos anymore - I only just found your channel 😢
Violence may be senseless but not in sensual
Great review, thank you for providing perspective and clarity! I felt pretty similarly, finding it kind of difficult to follow at first and I felt like once I did get into it, it was almost over. The writing was good, but like you said, this one just didn't particularly connect with me; I've got more Faulkner on my list!
Epic review. I only just finished the book this evening, and , like you, kinda wondered exactly what I just read. I did somehow manage to follow it, but I certainly missed a lot of the deeper metaphotical messages.
Im really intrugued by the scene toeards the end woth rinthy living with some man. I wonder what the symbolism of it is and if the man is Culla
Hello! At time stamp 34:30, I go into my theory that the unnamed man Rinthy is living with is Culla. I think the symbolism of the moth in that section shows us that even though Culla has a second chance with Rinthy, that he remains willfully blind, but Rinthy has evolved. She can no longer stay with him. She would rather go into the "outer dark" , a term that implies suffering is ahead, than stay with Culla who has betrayed her and will not change. Thank you for watching.
Another hint at the meaning is that Rinthy goes down the stairs in her bare feet in that scene. She doesn't own a pair of shoes. She bundles up her few possessions to leave. Culla took away her child and gives her nothing even though she is seen doing her homely duties of having dinner ready for him after he goes home after working the field. And this really made me think about the portion I read in this review about the unholy trio when the man takes Culla's stollen boots. He trades his shoes along the hierarchy of his group until the nameless one give his "foul tattered pair" to Culla (29:14). The leader of the trio says to Culla that he "believes in taking care of his own", so in this way we can see that the leader of the trio is less selfish than Culla is because Culla doesn't even bother to take care of Rinthy. I love this book. :D
I really appreciate you replying!
Those are interesting points, and seem to check out with the general thrust of the themes of the book. For all his extremely negative qualities I still feel for Culla, while reading the book I was hoping he would eventually find rest. I kinda feel like after the inciting incidents of leaving the child to die and stealing the boots nothing was in his control anymore. He really was in the "outer dark " lol
P P S,,,, this book rminds me of a film called ""MAGNOLIA ""features Tom Cruise,,, but this book its not quite DOSTOEVSKI but is relevant,, again thanks for this review 😂❤
ITS,,, "" ALL THAT ,,, GLISTERS,,, NOT GLITTERS !!!!!! IS NOT GOLD 😢 SHAKESPEARE S MERCHAT OF VENICE,,,,,, but thanks for this MB review ps you,re nice ❤😂

BTW I've ordered Blood Meridian and am going to re-read it. Lost my copy...somewhere?
@@philipfritz-f8x that’s awesome. When I get to the end of McCarthy’s books I’m going to reread it. Can’t wait.
Its been years but I thought the wife/mother set out on their journey but committed suicide because she could no longer endure the journey/ life.
She committed suicide before their journey as I’m sure many people could relate to her in not wanting to put themselves through that harrowing journey.
OH MON DIEU! You are amazing and I literally subbed in 5 seconds. Reading this book in french is even better.
It took me several attempts to finish the book . I kept putting it down because I found it too difficult to follow. But I kept picking it up again until I finished it. But I didn't like it. I enjoyed your review tremendously thank you
No woman can be trusted to understand a cormac McCarthy book.
Just finished Dune Messiah. I loved it! It's a fantastic book. I found it easier to read than Dune, although I also love that book to!
Great analysis of Blood Meridian, one of my favorite novels. I confess, I couldn't get through it on my first attempt sometime in the late 90s. But when I decided to power through and give it the old college try, I really enjoyed it, although the violence was hard to take. I grew up reading horror like Stephen King, Clive Barker, and many other gore meisters. But there was something about the horrors contained in McCarthy's novel that took it to a whole new level. I began to see the violence as part of the landscape. It was hard to take, but the novel would not have worked without it. It's not about a gang of beauticians, after all. You are right to compare The Judge to the whale in Moby Dick, a novel which was indeed a big influence on McCarthy.
"Outer Dark" illuminates what the South was possibly like many years ago. Food, incest, possible cannibalism, hanging of the innocent while guilty go free......
Greetings from a Colombian, Amazing pronunciation! Finally, a review that understood how important Ursula is! and yeap you get much more from the book if you know about caribean people in Rioacha, small towns far from everything strugles, Colombian and latin american history. Did love your review and ideas arround the book.
I think the judge is more than evil. When we consider the hierarchy of evil or malevolent forces in literature and theology, the devil often represents the personification of evil, rebellion, or corruption. Above the devil, however, or beyond him, there may be more abstract and primal forces or entities-something that embodies not just evil, but the raw, indifferent power of the universe itself. In this context, Judge Holden could be seen as the personification of such a force-an entity that stands beyond moral categories and represents the essence of violence, entropy, and the inevitability of conflict. He embodies the idea that war is eternal and inevitable, a force that exists beyond good and evil.
Thanks, Cimmerian Pervert, I wasn't disappointed.
Dune Messiah was the The Last Jedi of its time. I said what I said
great review
Hi, I just found your channel after looking for an analysis on Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying". Wondering if you are going to continue to make videos.
It left me feeling stupid. I totally missed the plot. All I got was an account of a murder spree in the desert. It felt like a story that everybody raves about but I’m too dense to appreciate.
For instance, tell me a spoiler in this story. If there’s a spoiler, I’ll reconsider it.
The protestant's ethics lol
I read the book for my class! It's a difficult read, so I'd recommend reading/watching a summarized version. My favorite on YT is by It's Too Late to Apologize. Basically, after he makes the deal with Mephistopheles, he begins gradually committing more and more heinous sins. It's a wacky and interesting read
Thank you for this excellent analysis. I’ve read most of McCarthy’s novels and he should have won the Nobel prize for literature long ago. No other contemporary author brings such realism to their character’s voices, in my opinion. The fact that his work continues to be explored and discussed in film and literature, for decades now, speaks to the depth of the stories and the characters he created. McCarthy was known to hang around the Los Alamos national laboratory and interact with the scientists there. I believe his novels often reflect this understanding of a probabilistic universe in which the unfathomable chaos of black holes and gamma ray explosions exist beside the tiniest aspect of life on this planet. Amid this total chaos, his characters are continually challenged on their notions of goodness and morality. Satan is the most accessible illustration of mankind’s fundamental awareness of the abyss. This same agent of chaos drives other well known characters in his works; like Anton Chigurh in No Country For Old Men. This same theme is explored to its ultimate conclusion in The Road.
Thank you for this. I just finished it. It is now 8:34 AM and I have been awake since 4:30. Started this a couple days ago. I love the relationship between the characters. As soon as you figure out who they are it becomes a little easier. Definitely gonna skim through this again today with coffee. I enjoyed this review and I hate people. Thank you. 🍏 ⚰️ 🐈 🌲
