It's Too Late to Apologize
Добавлен 6 янв 2014
This is a place where books are loved and discussed. I'm Stella Telleria, and I'm a writer and an avid reader. This channel is all about trying to balance working on my second novel while chipping away at my ever growing TBR pile.
Stella Telleria is an author who's dreamed of stories or has had her nose buried in one her whole life. She likes books with action, a good plot, and characters she'd get into a fight at the pub for. Not that she's a brawler or anything. Unless you think that out-of-print book or vintage piece at the thrift-shop is going home with you instead of her. Then, my friend, the gloves are off.

Epitaph of a Small Winner ; The Road to Irreverence
Hi, I just found your channel after looking for an analysis on Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying". Wondering if you are going to continue to make videos.
It left me feeling stupid. I totally missed the plot. All I got was an account of a murder spree in the desert. It felt like a story that everybody raves about but I’m too dense to appreciate.
For instance, tell me a spoiler in this story. If there’s a spoiler, I’ll reconsider it.
The protestant's ethics lol
I read the book for my class! It's a difficult read, so I'd recommend reading/watching a summarized version. My favorite on YT is by It's Too Late to Apologize. Basically, after he makes the deal with Mephistopheles, he begins gradually committing more and more heinous sins. It's a wacky and interesting read
Thank you for this excellent analysis. I’ve read most of McCarthy’s novels and he should have won the Nobel prize for literature long ago. No other contemporary author brings such realism to their character’s voices, in my opinion. The fact that his work continues to be explored and discussed in film and literature, for decades now, speaks to the depth of the stories and the characters he created. McCarthy was known to hang around the Los Alamos national laboratory and interact with the scientists there. I believe his novels often reflect this understanding of a probabilistic universe in which the unfathomable chaos of black holes and gamma ray explosions exist beside the tiniest aspect of life on this planet. Amid this total chaos, his characters are continually challenged on their notions of goodness and morality. Satan is the most accessible illustration of mankind’s fundamental awareness of the abyss. This same agent of chaos drives other well known characters in his works; like Anton Chigurh in No Country For Old Men. This same theme is explored to its ultimate conclusion in The Road.
Thank you for this. I just finished it. It is now 8:34 AM and I have been awake since 4:30. Started this a couple days ago. I love the relationship between the characters. As soon as you figure out who they are it becomes a little easier. Definitely gonna skim through this again today with coffee. I enjoyed this review and I hate people. Thank you. 🍏 ⚰️ 🐈 🌲
"curse God and die." - Job 2:9
I didn't sympatize with Emma. I was more worried about the poor, but dumb, Charles. I was expecting a tragic final for Emma, and maybe her ex-lovers, but I felt bad for her husband.
Dune Messiah was phenomenal. I thought it was a fantastic follow up to the first book. The ending was poetic and sad. It was the perfect ending to Pauls story. Its not the same adventure or coming of age story as Dune. Frank Herbert wrote a fantastic sequel. I personally enjoy how Herbert plays on the classic themes of Good vs Evil. Its not so clear cut and i appreciate that
I worked on the film for this, and that was my introduction to Cormac's work and the reason I'm reading his books still to this day. Thank you!
@@alexcherrypicks how cool! What part of the project were you involved in? What other books by McCarthy have you read? And, most importantly, which is your favourite so far? Welcome to my channel.
Oh man what a great visit. I’m on my second listen to audio book (blind) and I’m gonna need a 3rd. And this book is so freakin deep. I would have never made the pig connection without this and now I’m thinking you’re absolutely correct. He’s a friggin pig. Maybe it’s a generality for all deadbeats. Lazy people. Abusers. They are all pigs. Maybe even McCarthy’s guilt made him feel like this in a way.
I may have missed your take on the three strangers when they first seem to appear, running through the field of the first squire (that culla steals the boots from) I think it is them because of the weapon unsend to kill the squire and the tools stolen from the barn. And did the mute guy see these guys? And did culla see these guys steal the tools and was too chicken to say anything so he makes his escape but not before stealing ((acquiring))the boots? They tell him, they are easy to find, once they’ve been found.. and it’s true. We just know they killed the squire because the name Harmon is said, and we know they stole the tools because the one specifically mentioned by the squire is the same type of implement used to slay him. I digress. My main question would be, am I remembering these scenes appropriately? Have they been following culla all along?
IMO, this book contains more faith than the Bible.
Zero point of you simply reading from a script.Disingenuous video
One curious aspect of this novel that no one seems to mention is the fact that 'the kid' is astonishingly and mindlessly violent and amoral before he ever falls in with the scalp-hunters and the Judge, and there is no particular reason offered for why that should be so - for instance, while his childhood certainly seems 'troubled', it is not presented as violent (IIRC; it's been awhile since I read the novel).
It seemed to me that the reason for Addie to die was to have been sexualy assaulted by her husband, as to when the boy is yelling "you kilt her!" Implicating that she got hit by the horse, he also implies he saw his father going on top of her, which then took her will to live. Theres a parallel with the 40 years of pilgrimage in the desert by the hebrews, or so it seems.
This was exactly the depth of convo I was looking for after just finishing TSH!! Thank you for sharing
I have a love/hate relationship with Donna Tartt.
"Story of the Eye" was hilarious, bizarre, and erotic. Mostly hilarious, though. I so want someone to film this in some graphic, surreal way that pays attention to how funny and sexy it is. I so want to hear the first few lines of the novel read as a voice-over introduction.
I really liked "Dune Messiah". I loved that "Dune" and "Dune Messiah" formed a complete tragedy. I've spent years telling people to just disregard everything written after "Dune Messiah". "Children of Dune" was awful, and "Worm-God of Dune" was unreadable.
Did you know that "Cien Años de Soledad" was actually banned from being read in Cuban schools; it has a very strong religious foundation from the Genealogical tree of the Buendia family to the sign at the very entrance to Macondo: "Dios Existe."
Thank you
Most excellent book review I have had the pleasure of seeing.
Winston is a journalist. Julia is a congress person in 2024.
Great review! I just finished it and I thought it was great. It felt like a Huck Finn story with a kid having a big dangerous adventure. I've loved all three of Tartt's novels and I'm ready for a fourth book!
I was delighted by the title, I had to click on this. I completely view McCarthy as the successor/heir to Faulkner. The Orchard Keeper was only published 3 years after the publication of The Reivers and Faulkner’s death in 1962. It is hard to imagine a more seamless torch passing. I just reread the opening of All The Pretty Horses earlier this evening and was struck by how much it could absolutely pass for the opening of a Faulkner novel. Their common obsession with light is present. Anyway, great review!
You might check out Better than Food Book Reviews since he loves the book so much that he actually bought the rights to it.
Aureliano Babilonia history it's devastating.
Too many redundant boring conversations in Messiah. It just drags on and on before any action takes place. The most interesting conversations were between the conspirators (who were disposed of too easily IMO). I imagine the movie will show more of the jihad to prevent it from being a total snoozefest.
Awesome review. Enjoyed it a lot. I would rate Messiah 4/5. It’s deep and certainly worth a reread. I think FH was very brave though in the turns he took on Paul, was the right thing to do to keep it interesting. Did people expect him to be the Good protagonist throughout the whole series? Anyway, feels like Messiah is underrated.
Great review and analysis, thank you for sharing it. I am reading it in French (I am French), the passage where Rudolphe writes his break-up letter..
I appreciate you.
"And it's golden Ponyboy!" ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
And when you temper with gods plan, that’s a sin
I here I thought Christopher Nolan was obsessed with time, William does play on time with his books very well, especially The Sound of Fury
Thanks, the recap helped put together some things where I understood what was happening, but wasn’t sure if it was happening. This is my 3rd mccarthy book and I love how the setting never fades into the background. It’s a lot like real life, especially for people who aren’t able to rise above their circumstances.
It’s years since I read McCarthy’s Orchard Keeper. What stands out for from all his writing is his style. It takes on a life of its own. It’s the background music ( as in film) to the plot. I love McCarthy. A veritable genius. R.I.P.Requiescat in Pace.( love to take this woman out for a few pints sometime: I live in Ireland, unfortunately !
I'm way late but you mentioned you like to visit libraries and I immediately thought you'd probably like to visit the Royal Portuguese Reading Room in Rio de Janeiro. Look for pictures and you'll understand
Thanks!
Thank you!
Great analysis but I'm surprised you didn't mention Homais, who Flaubert clearly despises, represents the banality and unscrupulousness of bourgeois rationalism, and whose success is the subject of the last line of the book.
Enjoyed it at the beginning but once it hit the Las Vegas stage and the sadistic Russian father, nausea began to set in and I finally threw the novel in the trash!
So good ! Thanks Stella !
THE BABIES SCENE!!!! YEAH
Sou do Brasil, e sinceramente foi a melhor análise que vi até agora desse livro brilhante de Machado de Assis, repito, você foi brilhante em sua resenha do livro. Adorei!
It's been a while since I've read it, but to me, the kid, the judge, and the priest, and possibly other characters were all aspects of a single man with multiple personality disorder.
Thank you for making this!!
You're so welcome!
If you're still interested in ancient Greek politics you should check Claude Mossé
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 I loved your humor in this pleasant review. And yes, Machado was a genius. ❤
WHAT A GREAT REVIEW!! I loved it, also your interpretations about the dedicatory was very interesting.
I loved this book as well. I was surprised it was rated relatively mid on GR. The perspective of someone who thought they were doing a good thing to have their life’s work belittled and damned. What do you do when everything you believed in is now considered wrong? And even if you went into it with theoretically justifiable causes (walking with Matasuda in the pauper village)
