During a short period of time just before the start of the Civil War, future Lincoln assassination conspirator Lewis Powell and his family lived in the small community of Bellville just south of the Georgia / Florida border. I visited a small cemetery in the area to discuss this part of Powell's life.

From 1848 to 1856, young Lewis Powell, a future conspirator in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, lived in the Green Hill community of Stewart County, Georgia. A lack of four wheel drive and bad weather prevented me from visiting the exact location of Green Hill but I shot a short video from my car anyway.

Lewis Thornton Powell, the conspirator who attacked the Secretary of State William Seward on the night of April 14, 1865 as part of the plot to assassinate the heads of the Union government, was born on April 22, 1844 in Randolph County, Alabama. This is a short video from the approximate area where Powell was born.

The seward story was complete fiction.... change my mind
Aww no pity fir booth or his fellow conspirators except the wonen i think she was tricked into the con spiracy, by booth.
I thought the farm was on Locust Hill.... which is actually ACROSS the roadway.
Excellent video Dave.
Thanks for the post. Continue to learn and always look forward to your posts
Booth shouldn’t have a grave, just as notable confederate generals and politicians shouldn’t have graves, or statues. They’re all traitors.
Not ftilllo
It would have been interesting to see a reconstruction of what the place looked like, say an artist's impression, although of course, there are photographs.
5:33 brave boy? Wasn't Davey 2yrs younger than him? Can't've been much more!
Before even watching this I know it'll be a downer: they "had to" shoot the poor creatures! 😢
At least Booth had Herold to talk to (though Herold looks like a miserable wet sponge let to sit in a damp washbasin overlong)
Prefer the Rosemary Clooney version. She mastered what was already mastery, and yet she is forgotten. As we all will be, but she before expected.
Some questioning if Booth had allergies. Edwin Booth (brother) it seemed in his writings he did, so there is a good chance our despicable rascal also suffered in his Sinus. ❤
Would you go to the one of the other conspirators graves on July 7th 2025 witch is the 160th anniversary of the hanging
Wonderful job on this series!
Great job. Appreciate all of the names and details.
I have been trying to no avail to find the actual physical location of the hangings today. There are no modern photos, or coordinates of of it! I know it's modern day Ft McNair , but no site is identified. Does anyone out there have anything on it?
I love history!
Where is Booth’s grave though?
Mudd's sister was my Second Great Grandmother Sarah "Fannie" Mudd Gardiner and her daughter in law my First Great Gradmother Marie Espey Gardiner said her in-laws were all in own it and lied for Mudd. She said she had proof but I never saw it and I am pretty sure my Gardiner family side has it under lock and key. My great grandma Espey was from DC and didn't appreciate her inlaws being so cavalier about what they knew and did, to Lincoln Fannie most likely lied on the stand for her brother and the Mudd family is determined to make Dr. Mudd a saint when he was not!
Great tour-thank you! Really interesting to see the countryside there.
Where's this
A water camel is a great device
I can't believe Surratt Jr got off
Excellent video. I wish people would learn to spell the word "cavalry" correctly, especially since it is on someone's head stone.
No grave of J. W. B.
Wow, this is really cool. I've never seen the Potomac so i always thought it was weird that Booth and Harold got turned around and ended up back in Maryland, i was like, how hard is it to cross a river? Now, seeing the spot it all makes sense. That section of the river is huge, the size of a lake! Rowing in the pitch dark, it now is clear to me how easy it would be to get lost.
Booth left a land where the people did not fight against the United States, lost all their slaves, and therefore did not owe the Union search party the time of day, literally, and into one where the people had just lost a huge, bloody war and needed to make friends with the Union Army. Booth was in Maryland for two weeks and they were nowhere near catching him. He crossed over to Virginia and didn't last 48 hours. 🤣
lincoln was the worse president in history, under his regime half a billion americans died. and he was a slave owner and so was his wifes family.
I watched every video you did on JWB and felt like you took me back in time. I am watching them again.
Really enjoying these videos and NO, no one can blame you for not staying out in a T-Storm, not only the danger of the heavy rain, but wind possibly causing tree limbs or even trees to crash down. Not worth the risk. Thank you for doing this though to show what he went through!!
What an amazing service you’ve done by making this video series. Well done.
Filmed in 2018 and only posting now?
I have been there! I thought I recognized the name. Did not know about JW Booth. Interesting.
What a marvelous find! Thank you for doing this.
Great video except for far too many jerky, distracting camera motions. Nevertheless, thanks for the compelling info.
Really enjoy your Booth posts.
Just imagine if Booth had hit it big on oil perhaps, he wouldn't have killed Lincoln.
love your videos, glad you are still posting
I don't often have videos to post (and these are actually 6 years old now) but feel free to follow my actual website where I write about the Lincoln assassination. LincolnConspirators.com
Great to see you’re back!
Thanks, but I don't really feel like I've been gone. I'm not a RUclipsr and just use this as a place to put videos I want to include on my website. If you are okay learning about the assassination in written form, you should check out my website, LincolnConspirators.com.
Will do!
Where is his tombstone?JWB?
Cavalry on the gravestone is misspelled.
Love the video, probably a good ole country boy that went to fight for his state...war is a cruel thing ,then got mixed up with the Lincoln conspiracy..... I visited his grave down in Florida 2 years ago
I hate what that guy did Lincoln was so much better of a human.
Fantastic 😊Thks!
Makes me think of Tom Petty haha, "The waiting is the hardest part!"
Great video. Only before. 14,000 likes?
I had no clue he was a Mosby Ranger
Absolutely fascinating. I first became intrigued by the Lincoln assassination as a ten year old boy in 1956. I THOUGHT I was fairly well versed on the conspirators. Most of what you presented here was new to me. Thank you.
