Amanda Spencer Artist
Великобритания
Добавлен 15 сен 2022
My name is Amanda Spencer. I am an artist. My art reflects my memories, experiences and feelings, particularly those of being in the landscape: the landscapes I have visited, those that I have lived in and those that I imagine. I let my mind explore my memories and feelings of these special memories and places on paper, using paint and mixed media.
I have art school training regarding the technicalities of producing art but I prefer to paint intuitively which allows my feelings and chosen materials to guide the work I produce.
In the past, my work has been exhibited with The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, The Society of Women Artists, The National Watercolor Society (US) and the Shanghai Zhujiajiao International Watercolour Biennial (China). I have run painting workshops from Norway to Australia. I have appeared in publications in France, Norway and China. My work is in private collections around the world.

A viewer left a comment to say the audio on the original version ruclips.net/video/GJgSw1hzOeI/видео.html was a little low. It was fine on the devices I tested, apart from one which was a little quiet. Therefore, here is a version with louder audio :-) I use negative painting a lot in my work but it has gained a bit of a reputation as being tricky. I hope that with my little tutorial and lots o...

This is a quick demonstration, the sound (me talking to myself) is poor but it is not a tutorial :-) Watch me as I demonstrate how I paint intuitively and loosely in watercolour, ink and mixed media. How to stretch watercolour paper like a pro with UK artist Amanda Spencer.
This is so interesting to watch, thank you so much for sharing this process. You make it look easy but I know it is not. The way you form petals from nowhere with your negative painting is inspiring. Beautiful.
Thank you so much ❤
How did you create order out of that chaos? 💚💙💜
Beautiful
Thank you very much 🙂
This is stunning!!!
Thank you so much 🙂
Thankyou Amanda I learned a lot and enjoyed watching your techniques 👍
Aww thanks, that is good to know!
I love it. Best intuitive watercolor I’ve seen. It’s amazing how shapes and images emerge. May I ask what brush and paints you are using ?
Thank you, much appreciated. The brush is an Escoda Barroco size 10. The paints are Winsor & Newton 🙂
Thank you so much
Loved it but can't understand the snow when there are leaves on the trees.
Artistic license 🙂
you are convincing me to try this!
Try it! 🙂
I had a hard time believing in this one--but I hung in there. Really interesting. I'm going to give this a go.
All comes together! Glad you stuck around 🙂
Deffinatly going to try this. I not good at fine work. Love it!
Fab! I hope you have fun :-)

Hi Amanda, when applying the collage do you apply the glue to the collage and then stick it down or do you apply to the paper. Just worried that if I apply to the paper and it’s not completely covered by the collage the glue will act as resist?
Hey Fran, sorry for delay! I glue the collage and put to paper and then pat it down with the glue brush and you re correct that dry glue will resist 🙂
I just had to watch this again ❤ such a beautiful painting 👌
Thank you so much ❤
Same procedure with cold pressed paper?
Good question! I do not ever use cold press but would assume it could be stretched the same. Give it a go 🙂
So beautiful! So inspiring! Such talent!
Thank you, I really appreciate that ❤
Hi there, just saw your channel, I like your style. I did subscribe. Looking forward to see your videos. Thank you!
Thank you so much!
Delightful! ❤
Thank you ❤
Does the paper not get ‘overworked’ ?
I have never had an issue with this :-)
Absolutely beautiful
Thank you :-)
is that white you are using for the shading or just water ? beautiful
Thank you. If you mean blending, I just use water/damp brush :-)
@@amandaspencerartist thank you for your answer ,it is absolutely stunning
Hello from New Jersey USA. I just discovered (*and subscribed to*) your channel and love your artistic style! hope to see more. ThankYou for your inspiration.
Hi! Thank you so much, especially for subscribing! I have been somewhat unwell for a while but hope to be doing more as soon as I can!
Quite refreshing to just watch, no talking, no music. Thank you
Thank you, I appreciate that and, yes, I must admit I prefer to just watch too 🙂
Just found you today! This was a great demonstration. I wondered what kind of pencil you are using to make the dark marks? I love your finished piece.
Thank you! I used a STABILO woody for the dark marks.
Wow, so skillful. I love this and am excited to try something using these techniques. thank you
Thank you! Have fun!
Amanda, would you mind listing materials, or at least paint colors used (possibly brand too)? This helps me as viewer to focus on your process rather than rush to make notes. Thanks very much. Your paintings are interestingly both loose and defined, in a nice balance.
I’ve just discovered your channel, and I love your work! You are creative and talented, fun to watch and learn from!
Thank you for you lovely comment!
This is a such a lovely technique… thank you for sharing… beautiful!
Thank you ❤
Gorgeous piece and so well done… thank you for sharing it with the world…❤
That is very kind of you, thank you ❤
Lovely
Thank you ❤
What a beautiful painting Amanda 😍 loved watching you create it x
Thank you so much ❤
Is the gesso and tissue pape necessary?
I often use both in my process as they provide ‘effects’ that I can then follow. If the paper was not used in this, there would be no collage - I have used it to form the basis of my flowers and only use my brush to enhance what the paper provides.
I am also having a problem hearing what you are saying. I also subscribed and each time I go to a different video of yours, it does not indicate that I am subscribed. Thought you might want to investigate. Would you mind clarifying what items you are starting this painting with. I understood after replaying a couple of times that you said wax. What kind of wax are you mentioning, please? Just like a white crayon? Always enjoy your results and the steps to get there! Thank you for the videos!
Wax crayon I think and various coloured inks, maybe some oil pastel. Apologies, it is really just a demo and not a tutorial so that is why I just left in me talking to myself, rather than give clear instructions as in my tutorials. Often there is no talking in demos and we all have to gather info from what we see.
Ps re subscribe isse, so sorry, I am not at all technically minded, I struggle to produce the videos, so I have no idea regarding this. Thank you for subscribing though, so many do not bother and I really appreciate it as a sign my efforts are appreciated/helpful etc 🙂
I really love your style of painting, what did you put in the middle of the flowers? Did you stick the collage down with gesso. Thanks look forward to more video’s.
Thank you so much! Yes, bits of various collage and stuck down with gel medium. You can use a PVA too. So glad you are enjoying my little offerings ❤
Love this ! How did you get the faded white-ish lines in the background? It’s a beautiful effect!
Thank you very much! It is all done with negative painting and glazes ❤
Wow such a great outcome!!!❤
Thank you so much ❤
Good playtime!
Absolutely!
Thank you for sharing...really enjoyed your process 👏👏
Thank you so much Linda for your kind comment and for taking the time to comment.
Sound too low!
I am so sorry. All I can say in my defence is that I am not a professional film maker by any means. On this video, which is a demonstration, I was just filming myself playing around and talking to myself really. I usually take me talking out of demos but thought the filmed process would be the main interest of this one with a few helpful comments from me ❤
Thank you for this very helpful video
You are very welcome, thank you so much for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it ❤
This is just lovely! Thank you!
Thank you, that is very kind of you 🙂
Can't believe that using just two methods: splatter and negative painting, that you managed to achieve sooo much depth in both the tree canopy and the trunks themselves. Really lovely painting. Can I ask you a question? I'm predominantly a portrait artist (watercolour) but have dabbled in other subjects, mainly botanical and fauna. Anyway, with all of these subjects, I work with a photo or an image of some sort. Do you do these paintings straight from your head or do you also take your prompts from something more "concrete"? I'd love to know. If I don't take a photo or use an image, I'm hopeless. I always need to paint from sight, not from my head. Anyway, thanks for another fab tutorial. Love watching how other people paint!
Thank you for your lovely compliments. I pretty much exclusively paint from my head, although if I were painting something specific and representationally, ie a rose, then I would use a photo for reference. I have always ‘seen things, in things’ by that I mean things like, as a little kid I would be the one in the back of the car telling my parents about the castle that was in the clouds ahead on the horizon. It is the same when I put paint on paper and I use my imagination to fill in the gaps so to speak. I am glad you like my tutorial 🙂
That's a skill and what a beautiful painting too thanks 😊💖
Thank you so much and thank you for taking the time to comment ❤
