Duckworth Offshore Fishing Boat Hey Everyone, Thanks for the support on this video! I have been amazed by all the positive responses! I just made a really in-depth video about the Columbia River. It has a lot of boating safety tips. Check it out if that appeals to you. (You might notice that I'm learning how to make better video's) here is a link... ruclips.net/video/9SVmXFl6CuU/видео.html Joel
I like your information Joel. I could be fine without the irritating music.
Can you put the legs on ice to bring home and cook them or will they spoil after you clean them
the music in this vid is really stunning,, respect to you sir great work
You made a great and very VERY INFORMATIVE VID. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR EFFORTS AND INFO!!!!
I worked for the USACE for thirty years piloting the dredges Essayon and Yaquina to keep the bar safe. This is exhausting work and very dangerous.
At the beginning of this the day that the Columbia starts in British Columbia at an elevation of "twenty six hundred and ninety feet", but that is not correct. It's shown in their graphics as 2,690 feet. No, it starts at an elevation of "twenty thousand, six hundred and ninety feet", which should be shown as 20,690 feet. But that's okay. Nobody expects correct numbers in documentaries. By the way, turn on the closed captioning and you'll see that they got the elevation height correct there. A different group of folks, I assume.
I have some loins, and I will try this. Thank you for the Vid.
You win!
Thank you Joel, New Boater here and I want to do it Right....... also A new subscriber!
Thanks man… sweet boat
Really great and informative video. However, the background music is quite obnoxious and detracts from the video.
I'm going to FISH in Astoria next week and this video is perfect. Excellent content gives me a lot more information and more confidence when I am going to be doing Bar crossings.
I crossed in this January in 20-25 ft seas in a 49 ft Sportfisher.
I have crossed the Columbia River Bar and fished the ocean about three times. I thought your video was well worth watching. I felt that the music was distractive and made it hard to understand your speech otherwise it was very well produced. Thank You.
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to put this together. As a hard of hearing individual I would recommend turning down the music in some sections. Overall fantastic job compiling all of this. Thanks again.
I have never been crabbing. We are going to Florence. I have two crab pots that I will likely never use again as there are no crabs in Kansas, crawdads yes, crabs no, just to save time plus bait boxes made in Oregon to help things along there. I want to do this cleaning job at the dock and throw the "clusters" into an ice chest so I am hopeful there is no problem doing that and the remaining crabs may benefit from the guts and gills. Since seeing you handle the crabs I will not need my meat cleaver for this part. I will be using a cheap pair of rubberized palm gloves. If I lived out there I would invest in the same gloves you have. Well done! Thank you for sharing the direct method. This is one flatlander and wife who truly enjoy crab meat. At $60 a head for all the frozen crab we can put down at a local eatery one time out is still a bargain plus the fun of the work to get the crabs ready is a bonus! Happy crabbing for life to you and yours!
I dont have a cockpit steering station, so in bad weather when I want to sit and steer inside, I clip a bell onto the rod tip area, and it alerts me far better than watching through the window, and not watching for flotsam, and logs
I recently bought a used 2018 Weldcraft 260 cuddy king. It came with twin Yamaha 150s. I am considering repowering to the 200s. I have the longer cabin with stand-up head, the 160-gallon fuel tank. My fish box is smaller due to cabin length, but I also use the bleeder box. I am curious about the 4 bladed prop. Instead of the 3 blades. How is your fuel economy / mph at cruise power? I cruise at 24 knots at 4,300, about 12 gallons per hour.
Bro! Me and the wife we’re up in Ketchikan, Alaska, eating these things straight out of the water. We never saw anybody clean these as efficient as you’re cleaning them in the video! Nice!!!
Just ditch the music, I can barely hear you when it's not leveled properly.
This is hands down the best information out there in the Columbia Bar… The production has a lot to be desired though …. I would love to give a hand helping clean it up
Actually the production is fine it is really just the music is to loud try turning it down 50%
Very well done! I've been looking for this info for years. I'm sure it took you many hours to put it together. I really appreciate that you took the time. Thank you very much!
Great Video! Thank you
sorry man, you should learn more about cleaning and cooking crabs.
We also clean them first. It tastes much sweeter and fresher tasting.
Very efficient. I’ll try it.
Hats off to ya! Great video! I’ve fished the Columbia and the buoy 10 fishery for a decade. Every year to this day I still learn something new down there with the ever changing conditions. I’m Looking at picking up a new 28’ offshore duck and just came across this video on your feed. Very good video. I will be recommending this to anyone I come across that wants solid advice down there.
The indides were my Daddys favourite...ewww yucky, he liked his mustard!
How much did this cost, I’m researching now but I can never find any price points to get an idea.
The difference in flavor boiling a crab whole or just boiling the meat is the difference between night and day. That just my opinion! I’ve lived around crab pots my entire life and have been cooking and eating them for 65 years. Apparently you don’t know about crab fat or where to find it.
Nicely done.! Very accurate and relevant info I know to be factual, which inexperienced boaters can benefit from.
Very helpful video to learn. Thank you for sharing!
This would have been so much easier to hear without the music
I got my first skipper's license for charter boats on the Oregon coast in 1981, then served on USCG motor lifeboats, and eventually earned an unlimited Master's license. I enjoyed your video and compliment you on an excellent research. I will recommend this video to anyone who wants to boat on the coast. Your emphasis on safety in greatly appreciated.
Incredibly educational for those of us who have never ventured outside. Is there a way we/I could learn more from you regarding crossing bars and fishing in the ocean?
Hugely valuable info that definitely will reduce scary moments, build confidence and likely save lives but the good news is you will likely never know it
Surprised the coastguard didn’t say anything about the tide. Obviously you have a tide table but just the same….
It would be epic to see both clusters ripped off at once. Nicely done. I have 3 in the bucket. Will use this method for sure.
Cool beans!
Great video but music/sound effects are too loud I can’t hear the narration
Thank you for sharing. I have never even seen a Dungeness crab before. I've only been to the coast once. Hoping to catch some next week and try your method!
Great info video, looking @ the 2023 Duckworth 26 offshore myself and I have a question about your live bait tank. Which brand is it and Gallons, and is plenty room for your motors to turn without rubbing the tank. thx
Looks like a great crab cleaning method! Thanks!
I kinda do it that way, I rip the shell off and break them in half. I use the heavy duty gardening gloves . they got a nasty bite for sure, seen them cut right into peoples fingers.
Great video! I am in the hunt for a boat much like yours, thank you for the great information for the decision making on features. Knowing where you are operating, have you considered (perhaps you have?) taking some footage of motoring in and out of the ‘infamous’ mouth there in Astoria? I grew up fishing out of Newport OR and still remember my dad and his friends talking about how treacherous the water was during the big water exchanges. One thing I might have missed : is your boat self-bailing or pumped? I’m thinking self-bailing is what I want but I also want high gunnels.. thoughts?
Hi Dave, I made an “over the top video” about fishing out of the Columbia! Haha Look at my “Columbia river bar” video. In hindsight, I took way too much time for it. But I hope it helps!!!
Awesome information provided here! Thank You!
Thank you! You did a great job!
This is exactly what I was looking for! I will be taking a sailboat into the Columbia River from Seattle and this video is enormously helpful. I can see that it was a huge amount of work to put it together....Thank you so much!!!
Glad you like it. I hope it helps. Stay in tune with the coast guard (channel 16 and 22)…… don’t come in on an ebb tide (I recommend waiting until at least 90 minutes after low)…… watch the weather and conditions, wish ya safe travels Captain!
Amazingly simple! Thank you!
Awesome explanation Joe ❤
