Quaker Integrity in Public Office Project - September 2024 Action
On Thursday, 12 September, Quakers gathered once again at Parliament House in Canberra to highlight the pressing need for "Integrity in Public Office." The gathering began at 6:45 am with banners displayed at the rear of Parliament House, where participants greeted parliamentarians as they arrived by car for their day’s work. The group then moved to the front of the building for photos and video. The gathering was strongly supported by Quakers from Canberra, as well as representatives from Hobart and Melbourne. Feel free to share this video with your networks.

How to get integrity in office surely is to vote for those that have integrity. It’s not something that laws can create it’s a human trait that is obvious to see by those looking. In other words don’t just vote but vote right take it seriously and make sure you know as much as possible about the people you vote for. This will take some time because it may not be on show so look deeper.

Bruce, we're already equal under the constitution. Aboriginal people already have representation in parliament and can make effective policies as they see fit. There is an indigenous minister for crying out loud. Billions are pouring into indigenous communities. Your argument doesn't make any sense. Vote NO.

Interesting I thought quakers would vote primarily based on principals, that people in this country will not be treated differently based on their racial background. The voice is brought to us by the same people that brought us ATSIC the only difference would be if the voice went thru the corrupt body would be unaccountable. The truth is the aboriginal people have a voice in parliament already they have 11 elected members, the voice is a trojan horse the wording in the referendum doesn't just limit them to decisions affecting them only, it goes much further right to executive government. Why won't albanese tell us the specifics about the voice because he knows the majority of australians would be against it. It is sensible to vote for something without knowing any real detail about it?

Truth Telling ? Steady on Uncle Toby. In 1770 - 600 language groups fighting internally & externally. Women used for trading. Now disappearing millions by their own administrators. Selling off land returned to them in good faith. Their own agendas being hijacked by the politically savvy. Looking at world history any one of a number of nations could have claimed Australia. Who would you rather- Spanish, French, Dutch, Belgians, Germans, Chinese or Japanese ?

If the referendum passes it will mean that the indigenous peoples will be entitled to dual two way representations to the parliament, whereas, non indigenous Australians will only be entitled to one way representations to the parliament. Well now! In this connection won’t that be racism being enshrined into constitutional law. Marcia Langton calls for anti racism strategies to be put into place if the referendum fails. Well then Marcia? How about equal representation for all citizens to the peoples parliaments across Australia if the referendum passes! 🇦🇺💯%

It's a pleasure to hear the gentle clear Quaker voice added to this Voice question - our future is a walk together, somehow, and sharing our own diverse stories and deep listening in circle is a simple groundbreaking start. As for the vote in October, it's also a simple groundbreaking start to a future walking together with more likelihood of peaceful and healthy communities of all kinds here in Australia. Thank you for the video 👍

Disagree. Walking together is not what this is about. It's about the rich getting richer of the multibillion dollar industry that is Closing the Gap. The actual people in need of support will still get nothing from this. (Go and listen to Bronwyn Bishop talking on this- she says it very well). We have been walking together for a long time and this isn't going to help any more than the Abstudy, sponsored places in programs, reserved roles in government jobs, scholarships etc. (I could get $56k in scholarships too in my current uni course if only I was Aboriginal. Instead I get none). We have 11 members of parliament who are Aboriginal - That's 5% to represent 3% of the population who identify as Aboriginal. Don't we consider ourselves multicultural? Don't we walk together with ALL ethnicities? Didn't we all come from Adam and Eve and are all brothers and sisters. The flaw with this version of The Voice is that it enshrines racism in the constitution. We are all equal and while we must help those less fortunate (which this also won't do), we should not put any race on a pedestal.

Let's keep the focus on closing the gap. Did you know that indigenous people are not allowed to own land in their communities? That there is little or no private enterprise in those communities? Have you ever wandered what awaits people who have never worked, never owned a house? This is the reality of our remote indigenous communities. It doesn't have to be. I'm all for reconciliation, however the focus must be on providing economic freedom for these particular impoverished Australians. It's their decision, so let's hope indigenous communities vote to become financially viable.

If it is such a good thing, why are so many of indigenous against this referendum? It appears that the 200 handpicked indigenous people who were part of the making of Uluru statement were not truly communicating with or representing the will and consensus of the all indigenous people. Many prominent indigenous leaders among them. The fact is that the indigenous people are already included and have every right that each Australian citizen have now, that itself is already equality. We need to note that the indigenous are also getting extra billions of dollars going into all the indigenous affairs, agencies, schemes and ministries each year, yet it does not appear to be getting to the intended destination. Where is it going? And now the Australian people are told they want more? Who is really the one pushing for this referendum cause its definitely not the general population of indigenous? This referendum will only divide this nation (indigenous vs non indigenous) and that serves nobody well. United we stand, divided we fall. Vote No.

I don't dispute that we need to close the gap, but I doubt if the Voice will do anything other than create yet another talking shop. I'd like to see more grass-roots initiatives where they matter rather than more reliance on government-sponsored interventions. Government initiatives tend to lack the flexibility to adapt to the complexities of local conditions.

I think what Duncan said about having reconciled that truth in ourselves gives us both a space and place to listen to the other. However, that listening is not that we may do in the daily round of life but rather a prophetic type of listening. This type of listening is deeply grounded in the saying: our life is love. 54:06

The Earth is cooler with the atmos/GHGs/albedo not warmer. To perform as advertised the GHGs require “extra” energy upwelling from the surface radiating as a black body. ruclips.net/video/0Jijw7-YG-U/видео.html The kinetic heat transfer processes of the contiguous atmos molecules render that scenario impossible. No greenhouse effect, no GHG warming, no man/CO2 driven climate change or Gorebal warming.
