Hello, thanks for the questions here. To play lead you need to learn scales until you can play them automatically without thinking. This will further your freedom to be able to improvise on the guitar. You can start by learning the minor pentatonic scale. That's a very useful scale to learn.

But if you can change that habit so that you gripping the pick in the way that I demonstrate in those two links I'm attaching here, it will allow you to grip the pick in a relaxed way. This way your strumming hand can be relaxed, loose and free, without using the pinky for leverage. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!

@@user-qe2xx5fb2x No problem at all :) It's great that you have the background knowledge of the musical alphabet, solfège and the order of chords in a key. That knowledge will only help you. It does help to learn the notes of the fretboard. To really cover this topic properly I would have to create a dedicated video for it. And you're inspiring me to do so in the future. For now, it will help you to start by learning all of the notes of the 6th and 5th strings. This will help you to be able to play barre chords up and down the neck, for example. Play the 6th string and 5th string barre chords up and down the neck, while naming the chords out loud. An exercise like this will help you to memorize all of the note names of those two strings. That would be a great start to learning the names of all of the notes on the fretboard. Hope that helps!
