It is actually illegal to drive below the speed limit, that's how accidents happen. For example it takes 18 wheeled semis much longer to slow down than a regular car, if you're aren't driving the speed limit it could easily cause a rear end collision that could possibly be fatal.
That’s EXACTLY RIGHT, what Will said, they (cops) only see 1 thing, the color of our skin, they automatically assume a black man or black woman has done something wrong, this was a classic episode, that’s TRUE TODAY in 2024
Carlton’s naïveté can be easily critiqued and it functions as comic relief. However, it DOES present the reality of individuals who ARE innocent. The innocence is a beautiful and good thing that, unfortunately, is broken down by maturity and the difficulties and hardships of life. No parent would want their child to lose their innocence, and I think Will’s frustration is really the pain of having to see Carlton’s innocence broke down.
3:11 cops most likely pull you over if you drive too slow, hasn't this always been the case? They might suspect you're drunk or something else is wrong
I learned that not all cops are your friends growing up. Lot of them are like the two in this episode. Guys like this are the reason why cops wear bodycams and cameras are on police vehicles. Carlton grew up sheltered and his parents failed to teach him his sisters harsh truths about the world.
u can see de hurt in Uncle Phils eyes when hes telling de cops" when u got dis ileged confession from these two young man did they have a lawyer present? no coz im their lawyer did u notifyed their parents?no coz we re their parents so officers dont tell us to wait n dont tell us to sit down just open dat damn cell n let those two outta there or im gonna tie dis place up so much litigation dat ure GRANCHILDREN ARE GONNA NEED LAWYERS
If you dig hard you'll notice that BOTH were naive but just in different ways. Like Will was ''class dumb'' while Carlton was ''streets dumb'' LOL And plus there was no good or bad guys between the Banks and the officers. It was a case of mistaken identity but since the Banks are black, it leaves peoples wondering if the motive was racial LOL
And sadly Will was right. Carlton was clueless. He just didn't get it. Those cops weren't doing their jobs. Will and Carlton were rousted. And Carlton doesn't get it.
I like how they show their good relationship with how he gently pushed her away when she went it all crazy... But then started to get ten times crazy when they started to disrespect her.
For the record, my dad is a very slow driver, and he got pulled over before for driving too slow. They're mainly just checking if you're drunk or high when you're driving that slow.
It’s probably been around 20 years since I’ve seen this episode, but I still remember the “Your GRANDCHILDREN!” line. Still sends a shiver up my spine!
Actually, the cops didn't really do anything wrong in this episode. 1. Yes, police CAN stop you for driving too slow. 2. He was driving a car that wasn't in his name. Police had every reason to detain them. 3. They basically "admitted" to stealing the car. So the police had every reason to keep them in jail.

Fesh Pince honestly ruined this whole scene for me. And i love it
Hadn’t noticed before that it’s Hank Azaria as the cop’s partner. Shredder vs Apu!
Dark skin aunt Viv is best aunt Viv 😂
carlton was so naive in this situation and had no idea what was goin on
Phil had a lion roar
That young cop with black hair, that was Hank Azaria
_It is called The "If You See A Black Guy Driving Anything Other Than A Burnt Out Pinto You Better Stop Him Because He Stole It" Law_
Phil’s speech to one of the officers was really heroic
Talk ABOUT an uneducated black MAN !!!!! Prime example of reality !!!!!
Still not much has changed. This is still as relevant today as it was in 1990.
Whenever I watch this episode, my heart sinks when Will says "they only see one thing"
That’s EXACTLY RIGHT, what Will said, they (cops) only see 1 thing, the color of our skin, they automatically assume a black man or black woman has done something wrong, this was a classic episode, that’s TRUE TODAY in 2024
2:14-2:42, one of Uncle Phil’s best moments on the show

True… But you MORESO hear about cops pulling us over simply bc of the color our skin
"No. Cause im their lawyer" Oh shit "No. Cause we're their parents" Oh shit number 2
Mr. Firth stepping back like "Oh, this is gonna be goooood...."
I learned that not all cops are your friends growing up. Lot of them are like the two in this episode. Guys like this are the reason why cops wear bodycams and cameras are on police vehicles. Carlton grew up sheltered and his parents failed to teach him his sisters harsh truths about the world.
Calm yourself Barney fife took me out I love Aunt Viv 😂😂😂😂
He turned into the shredder
The cop is the vice of Moe Zislack from the Simpsons
We don't have Judge Phillip Banks and Captain Carl Winslow in this Generation anymore
When she says barney fife I busted out laughing
James Avery was An Incredible Actor , You forget at times, it's a show cause it's so believable in moments like this that's talent .
To be completely fair though, driving unnecessarily slowly can absolutely get you pulled over and earn you a citation.
A citiation NOT a trip to jail unless your being hostile which they were'nt.

Carlton was naive and doesn't have the street smarts like Will.

oh shit man not cool
Damn good episode 👍
Damn! I miss James Avery so much.
Great show- 'The Flesh Pimp Of Bell Aire'
You know what the worst part of this.... It's happened FAR too many times.
And sadly Will was right. Carlton was clueless. He just didn't get it. Those cops weren't doing their jobs. Will and Carlton were rousted. And Carlton doesn't get it.
Carlton was a very annoying character I don’t care where you grew up being ignorant to the issues black men face is crazy
"Not if I bring a map" bro’s confidence is unmatched 💀
Carlton still doesn't get it, that they are just free because his daddy white peopled the situation ...
Carlton is right, if they were driving normally they wouldn’t have been pulled over..
😅
Mr. Firth backed up lie, "Eat their asses alive Phil."
I like how they show their good relationship with how he gently pushed her away when she went it all crazy... But then started to get ten times crazy when they started to disrespect her.

If you are naive they can't hurt you.... she the best in people... I'm Carlton and i know it
2:10
1:46 when Aunt Viv took her earrings out, she meant business!!
And she stood on her business too. Do not screw with a woman’s kids. But definitely not a black woman. Everybody knows this.
Way to go uncle phil

Oh honey we're about to get very busy✊🏾
The original Aunt Viv was on that type of timing 🔥🔥
Damn Uncle Shredder. That’s colder than Turtle soup.
