Buddy Rich demonstrates some excellent brushwork in a live performance of Miles Davis' All Blues, with a trio subset of the Buddy Rich Big Band. The concert was held on November 3rd, 1984 at the 1984 JazzFest in Berlin. Performers are: Dave Carpenter - Bass Bill Cunliffe - Piano Buddy Rich - Drums
I clicked to see that guy's unique eyepiece.
Buddy was extraordinary 😮
Very amazing performance!! do you mind share me the chart? Very appreciate!
thanks a lot :) I can share the chart, do you have an email address I can send it to?
Great trio ! Good improvisation
Hot damn
I know Dave Carpenter since I heard him with Mike Garson !! 🙏😥

Can anyone tell me, is this the same guy playing bass in this? ruclips.net/video/ve5NVJpDoo0/видео.html&feature=share
Know what makes Buddy Rich a great drummer? His ability to play a tune like this - so tasty, so smooth, so in touch with the song and totally supportive of his other players! Nice!
Smokin, Bill and Dave!!!!!
It makes me smile & it makes me feel good again
Bill is great
Props to the bass player and the piano player and,of course, Buddy!!
Such engaging players these youngsters ! Bassist and pianist absolutely kill it!
Buddy Rich’s brush playing is so masterful!! His touch, dynamics and sound is flawless!!!!!
Carl Bechstein ! Sweet !
Generous capture of the mood from Mr Carpenter ! Excellent. Travel the world of jazz with Mr Cunliffe ! That sensitive grumbling !
A good film. But why the cameraman most of the time is interested in the pianist's hands when the world's best drummer is doing his excellent brushwork? That is irritating.
I could listen to this trio all day. Exactly what music is intended to be
The pianist Bill Cunliffe is hitting out of the park. One of the most impressive piano solos I've ever heard.
The piano says C Bechstein. Is that a brand?
Yes Andrew, a very famous brand - (German) Carl Bechstein, from around mid-19th Century. You can find details on Wiki or their own website...
Buddy Rich was soooo coool - and outstanding!!!
It's so cool to see/hear Buddy being unmistakeably Buddy... With BRUSHES!!!!!!!!!! You think Buddy Rich, you hear blistering stick work across his entire kit, including the bass drum, in your mind. Brushes aren't the first thing that comes to mind. So glad for this clip.
Yeah Buddy, and the other guys too - smokin'. Can I just say that Buddy Rich should be on an American banknote? When you look at his career and how his playing evolved from the earliest videos of him to this - it's astonishing, and hip. Buddy never got corny or anachronistic, in spite of his criticism about some of the modern music of his time.
Dave Carpenter was only 25 in this video. Such a genius.
Why is he a genius?
@@profile2047 Because he is playing with some of the best people in the world at only 25 years old. He sounds more pleasant than most musicians could ever sound.
One of his best rhythm sections And he had some great ones
One musical genius (Buddy Rich) honoring another (Miles Davis) by playing his song “ All Blues”. 😊
Yes
Buddy Rich...Genius...
wow again! such an endless drive!
That's the best brushes control i've seen
Dave Carpenter and bill cunliff. Two of the biggest a**ho*** is history!!!! Spoke to them one time in a club and that was enough abuse for a lifetime. All the charm of an attack dog with no ba***s.Brats.BR band was full of them,. The Aussie tromb player is no picnic either.
heres a nother good trio-version ruclips.net/video/w-zOROhVF-M/видео.html
Great Jazz Bass
Bill Cunliffe from Andover, MA on piano.
There was/is none better! Buddy you're not of this world!!!!
Buddy rich you're a monster!! Thank you!
.great music....we might have lost friends/musicians but their music will live and be played forever....great job guys and rest in rock and roll peace ...
I studied with Dave for two years just before Buddy picked him up. Miss ya, Dave!
Buddy Rich. When it meant something.
They have to left the "rhythm section" get some exposure minus the horn section, and wow did they take there chance and run with it! :)
and who is on piano?...
Bill Cunliffe.
ah....he's at in LA now Steve Melcher is up Rochester.
+Rowan Melcher thought Cunliffe is with Clayton Hamilton ork?
Great version !...
dave carpenter was the only musician that buddy woud let date his daughter cathy.
Really?
WTF?
Woah !!!!!!!!! Where did you hear 👂 this ?
I thought Carl Palmer did.
Buddy was a smart man.
I was fortunate enough to record with Dave on three of my projects. He had that special something, and here is how it expressed itself, at least to me: 1. he was completely tuned into whatever we were playing, making it feel as if it was his music too; 2. the most empathetic accompanist I'd ever encountered--telepathic is a better word. And what an all-around sweet guy. I miss him, and I'm sad that I'll never get the chance to play with him again.
an amazing bassist for sure
RIP Special player Wayne passed also Tommy W still with us
If words could describe how epic this is, I would use them.
you'r full of racist shit
and i'm white btw. Music is about pain and turning it into something good. Sorry guys
You are trash.
The piano player was amazing too but he just lost me around 3:00 with some white hillbillie thing.
Bass player was amazing. White players just lack pain/soul.
idiot....this has to be the dumbest thing ever said on you tube......great music....we might have lost friends/musicians but their music will live and be played forever....great job guys and rest in rock and roll peace ...
Buddy SUPREME PERIOD
