You Must Taste the Sound of SADHU SADHU Mystical Undulations, greased & loaded Spiritual Hucksterism, they conjure VERY Heavy Psychedelic Rock, Maan! Kranky! Load-Us Positions, NOW!
Unsung heroes of deathrock!
Easily the best music to come out of that whole "You Weren't There" era of Chicago Punk. Nothing legendary about them, they were overshadowed by Naked Raygun, Effigies, Big Black etc. Don't know what was behind the break-up, but Da manager and Lorna's bf, Terry, was a piece work. Lorna had a beautiful voice, was a fine bass player, and so sad how she left us. RIP Lorna, Beautiful Lady, the Flower in the Dustbin of the Chicago Punk Scene.
Da were an amazing band that make all these geriatric, self-important "You Weren't There" marginally talented North Side narcissists all look like amateurs. And all due respect to FNFilms, Da are not legends. They've been obscured by the likes of "Da Effigies" (so seminal, swoon!) and that triumphant well hung dude who croaked not too long ago, among others. Lorna had a beautiful voice, and was a commanding stage presence with that Rickenbacker bass she played with precision and grace. I met Lorna and her then boyfriend, WZRD honcho Terry What's His Face (nasty piece of work) a few times back in '81-'82, and again at a party in '86,when she was starting to look gaunt and frail. We had a nice talk about actual musical stuff and that was the last I ever saw or heard of this Beautiful Lady/Frightened Child. RIP Lorna Donley, gone but not forgotten.
Had never heard of them. It's so.....Siouxsie.
There are at least five subliminal images in the video Next to Nothing. Video: Discovered subliminal images: DA! Next to Nothing (1982): ruclips.net/video/Bdh0K0IaX5U/видео.html
I've put miniatures of the two subliminal images on my web page. It's a great video, and the images make it even more interesting.
There are two subliminal images in this video, that I noticed. (I thougt it might be some graffiti with eyes when I grasped the first.) The first is at 2:02. But you have to stop the video and move the red point of the time line minuscule bits foreward to find it. It's the face of a scupture that looks like maybe an indian devil, or something. A third eye in the forehead. The second image is at 2:37, and is a womans face. You have to do likevise to find it. (Maybe there are more?)
thanks for this upload...had the 45 many decades ago - great to hear this again
Very Siouxsie and the Banshees influenced sound. Vaguely recall hearing this song in the early 80's.
It sound a bit like Mittagseisen / Metal-Postcard first ...
If you weren't yet born, the experimental tail-end 70s - early 80s came out of having VERY big shoes to fill. We weren't that far removed from the awesome hippie revolution, but corporate rock and repetitive disco had gone stale and focused only sales sales sales. Especially pre-MTV the music had caught the spark again, but the establishment did NOT want this music experimentation to happen, probably because it threatened the money grab. This stuff was seen by them as not worthy of attention because they didn't think it could make them money $$$
Genial♥♥♥👍👍
Anyone have a tab for the bassline ?
I love this. It's got such a creepy vibe, and this video is even creepier! ❤ I've watched it 100x
So.good..okok
Super.re.ok
Let's face it. If The Banshees had stepped in front of a bus in 1977 these chancers wouldn't have existed.
Very cool track and band I had never heard before. Thanks for uploading!
Da! And Big Black.
エロビデオ。😂🎉 砂の嵐。
I definitely hear the Susie and the banshees influence in this song s i o u x s i e that is. Definitely amped up to 11:00!
So good!
Great bands so many should of hit big-time long live DA darkrooms we all miss you guys.
A straight up Siouxsie rip off, but pretty good.
Real
That sweet proto-Goth sound...
They definitely did NOT fit in with the Chicago punk scene of the earlier 1980s. DA! was very likely taking cues from British and European post-punk and early goth bands instead but they're not totally derivative either, i.e., they're not just trying to sound like Siouxsie and the Banshees or one of the other usual suspects. It's a shame there's only been one modern reissue of their music on LP, and it's out of print again.
Great 🖤
amo esta canción
sounds like suburban lawns
It's great. Reminds me of Siouxsie and The Banshees and Babes In Toyland.
Exactly, what I wanted to write
and Pat Benatar as appearance
Is this about child abuse?
At first I thought it's the Southern California band Daniel Amos. This is an amazing gem.
60 dislikes...haha wtf..damm people♡
Far better than that recent, sorry ass remake!, I remember hearing this brand new in 83!
Sounds great
Woah way cooler than I was expecting! Dig this in a major way! New favorite. New OLD favorite:-) yesss!
I can understand why this band went under the radar. They aren't punk, they aren't rock, they weren't radio friendly. They existed in a bleak, post-punk Chernobyl landscape people weren't ready for.
Kansas city post punk filmed in 1982
It's chicago
this is really good
Saduh is the response the bass playet gets to most questions she has asked her life, You think i should wear the more see thru dress - Saduh, Saduh! Who wants to give me a mustache ride? Everyone within distance that has been hetero for at least 30 secs- Saduh Saduh! In sorry i am worse than a dog pig jerk. But my heart became owned the length of this video ago. And for real kick ass song!
Doom punk
oh! Babies in Toyland go to hell
Soiuxsie and the Banshees rip. Can't blame them, still good.
The audio is gone. :(
I wish i grew up in this era 😭
So underated 🔥 🔥
I loveeee
Deserves so much more credit today 💯
Now I know where the cranberries got pretty from
With its ominous sound I really could have imagined Joy Division doing this. I think it's about Nightmares but when it is light every thing will be ok. Very imaginative.
